The 80/20 Bone Health Rule - Save Our Bones

Today I want to tell you about a man named Vilfredo Pareto. He’s the Italian economist credited with coming up with something called…

“The Pareto Principle”

It all started when he observed that just 20% of the pea pods in his garden grew 80% of the peas. Kind of surprising if you think about it.

As it turns out, this 80/20 split can be found again, and again and again.

An example is how 20% of the people in the world own 80% of the land. You can find examples of this all over the place.

But What Does This Have to do With Bone Health?

Well the Pareto Principle applies to healthy bones as well. In fact, I call it the 80/20 Bone Health Rule:

The 80/20 Bone Health Rule states that 80% of the foods you eat should be alkalizing foods and just 20% should be acidifying foods.

In fact, following this 80/20 rule is on my list of one of the top five things you can do for your bone health.

With this ratio you can be sure that your bones will get the nutrition they need for optimal health. Remember, it’s not so much about which foods you eat, the important thing is…

The Ratio of the Foods You Eat

Now I don’t know about you, but keeping track of this probably isn’t that practical for the average person with a busy life.

After all, just having time to eat is difficult enough!

That’s why I built the 80/20 Bone Health Rule INTO to the Osteoporosis Reversal Program.

The Osteoporosis Reversal Program tells you exactly what to eat to maintain this ratio, without having to get out your calculator. Plus it comes with handy “Success Sheets” that make it even easier… and your bones will thank you!

I’d be interested to see any biological or physiological reasons that make ‘alkalizing’ foods better for your bones. If they have a better nutritional composition then great but I just don’t think there is any evidence of calcium leaching from the bones after consuming ‘acidic’ foods such as milk. However, I’d be super interested in any science you have on this. Thank you.

    • Jennifer L.

Anna, if you read “The China Study” (borrow it from the library if you don’t want to buy it) there are many highly credible research articles on this topic. You can also go to Nutritionfacts.org to read or hear videos citing research about how bad dairy is for bone health. I, myself, have switched to a whole-food, plant-based diet and bone strengthening exercises. I am slowly reversing my bone loss. I ate “high quality” (I thought) dairy products for years, but my bones started to slip way even before I was menopausal! I hope you will give the idea of giving up dairy some serious consideration. It promotes so many diseases, it’s staggering.

I have tried several times to Get my FREE Natural Bone-Building Kit without any success. As I have been seriously considering buying your programme this makes me a little hesitant about taking that final step. Can you please help.

I don’t see anywhere a discussion on advanced age and osteoporosis. I realize it would be helpful to eat right and take calcium w/supplements. But my question is: can it actually lower your osteoporosis reading. Mine is 3.2 Thank you.

  4. Bonnie

I am contemplating buying this program. I do not understand the digital aspect. Can it only be read on the computer. Can I print it out? Why all the large bold print, just considering how much ink it will eat up.

    Thank you.
    Bonnie

I had inquired f I could order your book by phone. I have not received an answer as yet. I would appreciate if you would send it to me. I’ve had a very bad experience with giving my credit card over the computer.

  6. Katherine Howells

I received the Osteoporosis Reversal Program about a week ago, and I’m so excited to learn more about increasing my bone density the natural way! I just have one small complaint….. after purchasing the program, I’m receiving all these marketing emails about discounts and extra stuff I can get if I order the program! That’s a little bit of a downer. Perhaps you could take people off your marketing list who have already purchased the program? Thanks, and Happy Holidays to all…. Katherine

    • Customer Support

      Hi Katherine,

We are glad you received your book! At this time, we do not have a way to tailor the e-mails so that you don’t receive any sales messages. I hope you can simply ignore the sales messages in some of our emails and enjoy the informative content. 🙂

Of course, if you prefer, you can unsubscribe from the mailing list and just go to our website when you choose to read the new articles. If you decide to unsubscribe, simply scroll down to the very bottom of any of Vivian’s emails, and you’ll see the following message:

“To unsubscribe or change subscriber options visit:…” (there is a blue link there that you click on and it will take you to the unsubscribe page).

The company you all use to manage your emails should have the ability to have more than one list, such as a Prospect list and a Customer list. After someone becomes a customer, you can have someone remove that new customer’s name from the Prospect list and placed on the Customer list. You can also hire a freelancer to do that task for you.

I’m sitting here eating two menu items from Vivian’s Bone Appetite as I catch up on emails. I stopped taking my prescription osteoporosis drug a couple weeks ago, and I’ve been densercising, and eating from Vivian’s book. My copy of the book Save Our Bones arrived today, and I can’t wait to dig in and read it. The downloads have been extremely helpful to me, and I’m confident that my next bone scan in 6 months will show an improvement in my bones. I’m so grateful to Jesse Canone for sending me the CD with his interview with Vivian. I would otherwise not have known of her, and I consider Vivian an answer to prayers regarding treating my osteoporosis without harmful drugs. Thank you, Vivian!

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

That’s exciting news, Canda! Just curious – what Bone Appetit dishes were you enjoying this morning?

  8. Margaret E.Ruth

    Dear vivian,
I appreciate all your emails and blogs. I have your SAVE OUR Bones Program, I m currently taking True Osteo Advanced Bone Supplement from Nature City. I know that you recently mentioned the name of the bone supplement you are using in one of your emails. I save your emails, but I can’t find where that information was. Could you please mention it again as I would like to start taking that instead of my TrueOsteo.
    Thank you.

  9. Valarie Wolf

I am taking acorbic acid in a high dose to reduce lipoprotein (a) as this is the form of vitamin C which is effective for this purpose. Will this compromise bone integrity?

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      Hi Valarie,
I don’t know how much you’re taking, but Vitamin C is actually one of the Foundation Supplements in the Osteoporosis Reversal Program. It is essential for healthy bones!

  10. Lyn

Is there a connection between gluten and osteoporosis? Would it be helpful to follow a gluten free diet? Thanks.

  11. Eleanor Peed

I have read a ton of books, emails, articles on the web, etc., etc. I have come to the conclusion that nobody knows what causes or cures osteoporosis, but many have opinions. The world today is conflicted in almost all areas, including treatment of osteoporosis. Following my own advice that you never ask a fat person how to lose weight, you ask a thin person, I asked many women with unusually good bone density and strength for their age about their ingestion of food. Result? Big meat eaters, vegetarians, milk drinkers, non-milk drinkers, exercisers, sit-all-dayers, etc., etc. – it didn’t seem to make a difference.

    • Carlos de Souza

On the dot, Eleanor. I have come to exactly the same conclusion. Unfortunately, you won’t find many admitting that they, in reality, know squat 🙂

  12. Mary Dowie

Hi Vivian, I have just been given your name and what you do, and am interested in your theory on nutrition.I was born in India 64 years ago, we had only dried milk to add to tea etc. and no other dairy as far as I know.As a child I broke my Collier bone twice once as a baby falling out of bed,and once as a child of seven or eight falling over my dog while playing. About ten years ago I broke a bone in my elbow and my doctor in the UK where I now live sent me for a dexi scan , which. showed osteoporosis, and was given calcichew/D3Forte tablets, five years later I had a second scan which showed my spine getting worse and was given Alendronic Acid which did not agree with me , so was given Risedronate, which I have been on for five years, but am worried its not helping much because I had a fall down stairs and have collapsed a vertebrae in my spine.I am a very active person ,but am small boned of average build .Please can you help?.

  19. Susan Hetrick

    Vivian,

I once recently received a fairly quick response through this resource. After much consideration I ordered the program online late evening two days ago. The next morning which was yesterday, I rechecked your site to clear my confusion about the add-ons I had been asked to consider. I realized that there was no way out but to order a second at that point.

Problem became that I was not able to cancel one by phone, nor have a heard back from an email support center. Also, on the second order shipping was added though text stated that it was free and it was not added on first order.

My confusion initially appeared to be that the yoga for pain DVD offered, is referred to in text as a posture program when asked if one wants to order it. A ‘posture program’ was another add-on the buyer is asked to consider earlier.

I would love a response to clear this order up, as your work and this program sound very good.

    Thank you,
    Susan Hetrick
