Vivian Answers Day #25: Compression Fractures, High Blood Pressure, Olive Leaf Extract, Alkalizing Grains, Painful Actonel Side Effect, and More! - Save Our Bones

Question & Answer #1

I have osteoporosis and decided not to take the Fosamax my doctor prescribed. So I'm on the Osteoporosis Reversal Program and I'm feeling great. The problem is that I have high blood pressure for many years and I'm taking two medications for the pressure. I'm really worried that the drugs could hurt my bones. I asked my doctor and he says that I need to take them. What should I do? Please help me!

– Cassandra

Dear Cassandra,

You've made the right choice, and I'm glad you're feeling good on the Program. You're also rightly concerned about the blood pressure drugs. Drugs are acidifying chemicals. Fortunately, high blood pressure is easy to control without taking drugs. Your doctor probably doesn't even know this, but there are foods, herbs and other natural ways to lower blood pressure more efficiently than with toxic drugs.

Keep pursuing the truth!

Question & Answer #2

I have osteoporosis. I now have a compression fracture at T10 on my spine, which the Dr suspects is from osteoporosis. I will have a bone density scan tomorrow. Is there any option for me, I don’t want to take meds. Thanks!

-Christine

Dear Christine,

I hope your compression fracture has healed and that you're pain-free. Now to answer your question, of course there's an option to taking toxic osteoporosis drugs! With the Osteoporosis Reversal Program you can treat osteoporosis without taking any chances of suffering from the terrible side effects of drugs. Your bones will get exactly what they need, so they'll get stronger and healthier.

I urge you to read Real Life Results from community members that have gotten rid of osteoporosis by following the Program.

They did it… You can do it too!

Question & Answer #3

Hi Vivian, thank you for all you do. Your information has helped me a lot. I have read that olive leaf supplements are good for bone health. What is your opinion?

-Jeannie

Dear Jeannie,

Thanks for your kind words! To answer your question, studies have shown that the polyphenol oleuropein found in olive leaf stimulates osteoblasts, cells that deposit new bone and replace old bone.

But there's no need to take a supplement to enjoy its benefits. You can use extra virgin olive oil in your salad dressing. And for cooking you might prefer extra-light olive oil since it has a more neutral flavor and a higher smoke point, at 468 F.

Stay naturally healthy!

Question & Answer #4

Is it true that millet and buckwheat are alkaline forming?

-Brian

Dear Brian,

Yes, both millet and buckwheat are alkalizing. In fact, they're listed as such in the Osteoporosis Reversal Program. Both are also gluten-free, so don't let the name “buckwheat” fool you!

Here's a delicious and 100% alkalizing millet recipe:

Crispy Croquettes

Ingredients

1 1/2 cup cooked millet
1/2 cup cooked and mashed sweet potato
3 tablespoons plain unsweetened yogurt (preferably organic)
Sea salt to taste
1 tablespoon extra-light olive oil

Directions

1. Mix together all ingredients except olive oil and form into 6 patties.

2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.

3. Fry patties on one side, and turn when crisp and golden. Fry other side until crisp and golden.

4. Serve hot with a little yogurt on the side and your favorite alkalizing veggies.

Enjoy!

Question & Answer #5

Dear Vivian, I have been on Actonel for about 6 years, and gave it up a month ago…most of the pain in my shins has stopped, but upper arms still very painful when I raise them..do you think this pain will go and if so, how long should it take?

-Lowana

Dear Lowana,

I'm so sorry that you're suffering because of the osteoporosis drug you faithfully took! Now that you've stopped the Actonel, you're on the right path for your bone health and your general health. The good news is that bisphosphonates that are circulating in the bloodstream are eliminated in approximately three to four months. And chances are your aches and pains will disappear once that happens.

If you want to accelerate the drug's elimination, you can try the Osteoporosis Fresh Start Cleanse. It also helps you get rid of other toxins, achieve a more alkaline state, and feel better.

To your natural health!

I am considering the Paleo way of eating, which eliminates dairy, grains and sugar all together from the diet due to their inflammatory nature. Will calcium sources from Lithothamnium calcareum be an acceptable dietary replacement?

  2. Susan

Four days ago I got a compression fracture in L5. Slipped on ice and bent backwards. Can these fractures actually heal? Too young to let this define me. Took 20 fido max pills done 15 years ago. Developed gerd. Refused any more of these types of meds. Got involved in exercise and walking. Try to eat a balanced diet. What kind of hope for resuming my very active life is there ? Bought the Dave our Bones program some time ago. Believe it very much. Having difficulty sticking to the diet plans. Would like to feel positive again. Thank you, Vivian, for your extensive research.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

I am so sorry to hear about your fracture, Susan, and I do wish you a speedy recovery. A note about fracture healing – make sure that you’re getting sufficient calcium, magnesium, zinc, boron, manganese, and copper. Vitamin K and D3 are also very important, as well as B12 (preferably taken with the rest of the B complex) and Vitamin C. Also, some antioxidants (lycopene and polyphenols) help build new bone. Maintaining an alkaline body pH is also very important as well. Hang in there!

      • Susan

Thank you for the quick reply

  7. Bernard (Ben) Wegner

I have taken atenolol(25mg, once a day) for the past 20 years. About 10 years ago I began to develop an imbalance condition which has continued to become increasingly a major problem. A Dr. I consult with tells me that imbalance is a side effect of taking this medication and suggests that I stop the medication to see if my imbalance goes away. Do you have an opinion relative to this problem? If so, please express it. Thank you.

  9. Emme

    Hi Vivian:
I want to thank you for the information you share. It has helped me avoid taking osteoporosis drugs that my doctor insisted I needed. I’ve completely changed my diet to one more alkaline. Since wheat is also a contributor to my health issues, I still have issues. It is often so frustrating to not have medical doctors who are aware of the role nutrition plays in health. Right now, you are my shining light. I’m praying and seeking help for an autoimmune issue resulting from gluten I suspect. Thank you, Vivian!

  10. Sandy

    Hi Vivian,
I love the way you simplify the alkaline diet in your book, but I’ve looked at the diet on some other websites and I’m confused. There seems to be a disagreement over whether some foods are acifying or alkaline. Your book says lentils are acifying, but I saw another website that said they were alkaline. I’ve found discrepancies with some other foods also, such as salmon. Can you explain why there are discrepancies?
Thanks for your answer, and thank you very much for your book and your website.
    Sandy

  11. Maria Rangel

I would like to ask you a question, Vivian. I have very high cholesterol and my doctor wants me to take Lipitor. I have your Osteoporosis Reversal Program and to tell you the truth, I’m scared of taking any of those pills. Did I do the right thing by saying no to her? Instead, I’m taking BiOmega, eating healthier and exercising more. May I please hear from you? Thank you!

    Maria

    • Eileen

Maria, I also had high cholesterol but brought it down to normal by eliminating hydrogenated veg. oils from my diet and instead use only cold pressed olive oil and eat only dry roasted or raw nuts, never any that have been roasted in any oil. Putting raw walnuts on my breakfast cereal/fruit also helped.

  12. Peter Keith

Could someone please provide a list of references to the peer-reviewed scientific papers that confirm the dangers of GM foods?

Sorry to hear about anyone’s wrist pain..I was finally diagnosed with De’Querveins (look up Mommy Thumb on the internet). HAD to get cortizone shot in each wrist a couple of times. Immobilize the wrist for two hours, use Ice for several minutes and then immobilize it again. Keep repeating. Try not to get it in both wrists!

Two years ago, at age 69, I had a bone density scan which indicated osteopenia. Some months later blood tests indicated low vitamin d levels, which I realize is involved in calcium absorption. I have good daily sun exposure here in Brisbane, Australia. My Dr put me on one ostelin Vit d3 1000 iu daily. Six months later vit d levels were lower still, so he suggested 2 of the capsules daily. The Vit d levels in a further blood test showed even lower levels. Seeing the supplement didn’t improve the situation he instructed me to stop taking them, which is where I am at now. I cant help feeling the low levels of Vit d may be contributing to the osteopenia and he is doing nothing else to get to the bottom of the situation. Do you have any suggestions?

    • Judy

One year I had Vit D level of 25…next year I had breast cancer. After returning to health and four more years, my level is usually about 170 and I take 3000 D3 (as cholecalciferol) in the summer and 5000 in the winter. I’ve heard that the Vit D that Doctors prescribe is actually D2.

  17. Janesca

You never fail to amaze me with the infos. Thank you

  18. Susan Rowe

I enjoy a glass of wine every now and then (once a month or less)…is this going to be horrible if I am watching what I eat and exercising? Also, is organic plain yogurt okay to eat? I also try to eat “gluten free” as I heard this was good to do to. When I have the extra money I will get your program!

  19. Colleen Keegan

Distilled Water—Vivian, I got a water distiller and have found that the pH is acidic. What can I add to adjust the pH balance so that I am not creating acid in my body? I have osteoporosis and fibromyalgia. I had been drinking ion charged alkaline water yet with research found that it may be causing gastrointestinal issues…now with the distilled water I have constipation and am wondering if my body is confused. How do I balance the pH? Thanks Vivian!

  20. Joyce Crete

Yes Vivian I would like to ask a question about high-blood pressure pills
where my doctor has said I could stop taking one of two pills but I need to
continue with what is commonly referred to as a water pill. Do you feel
that is often required in some cases?

  21. Helen Lane

I am on Pradaxa because of atrial fibrillation, which was probably caused by taking Boniva. I have stopped taking all bisphosphonate drugs.I was on Coumadin because of a mild stroke, but still had a stroke so I was changed to Pradaxa which has a 35% less chance of stroke than Comadin. I am on the lowest dose of Pradaxa,75mg,beause of bleeding on the higher dose. So far the dose I am on is O.K. with no further strokes as of now. I also have mild high blood pressure problems so I am on felodipine and carvedilol. What I want to know is if there is danger to stopping the high blood pressure pills and reverting to the foods in lowering blood pressure and how do you do this, gradually and watching the blood pressure or what?

In america the quality of life, as in our choice of home, transportation & nutrition is quite inverted. You are what you eat and say & do! From SAD,to organics & optimum health credence, apathy, degenerative disease run parallel with the former, where as sunlight, seed, soil & good health run on the latter! Bones are the framework and structure to our bodies like steel & concrete are to skyscrapers. You need to be educated to build both for good health & longevity. Save Our Bones is an integral part in my choice of food & knowledge( food for thought) 365! Vvian you are truley the light at the end of the long tunnel to health where your education, knowledge & passion parallel only a greater quality of life!

  24. William

Love to read the answers. My question: I have osteoporosis. Refused to take drugs. I have Barrett’s Esophagus and take Omeprazole. FDA advises that Omeprazole blocks the bones from accepting calcium. Specialist had no answer as to any substitute to control excess acid. I skip periods of the acid blocker and pour down the calcium. Do you have any suggestions.

    William

    • Susan

Try DGL tablets for your heartburn – Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice Extract. It doesn’t block mineral (calcium, magnesium, etc) absorption from your food like pharmaceutical “acid blockers” do. My boyfriend has Barretts and he’s been using DGL for over ten years instead of what the doctor prescribed for heartburn and his Barretts has not gotten any worse. It totally works and is natural and has been used for hundreds of years. Doctors are clueless and are only covering their butts about the Barretts, prescribing those drugs so frequently without caring about the osteoporosis side effect.

  25. Judy

Would you please comment on statins and bone health? I have recently been forced to use them but not for lowering cholestorol, but because I now have a cerebral stent. Thank you.

  26. Judy

I would like to order the book about 12 Kitchen Remedies to cure High Blood Pressure. However, I do not order things on line and do not want to do so with this book, either. How can I order it? Is there an 800 number I can call and order it that way?
    Thanks.

  27. Carolyn

Thank you for telling us about the water-wise distiller that you use. I thought about it for a few weeks and decided to order one. Mine arrived last week, and I couldn’t be happier. I love the taste of the water. I have to clean it each time, because there is so much sediment that collects. Thanks again!

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

You’re very welcome, Carolyn! I’m also amazed to see the disgusting dirt at the bottom of my Waterwise distiller… dirt that would end up in my body if I were to drink the tap water…

i had breast mastectomy 6 yrs ago; had chemo, radiation and took tamoxifen for 4.5 yrs. then i had dvt.i switched to femara for a year n stopped last april. all those yrs i took calcium supplemets daily then switched to fosavance for 2 yrs. my bone doctor said my ionized calcium is over the max and my blood serum says i’s a little acidic. is it because of the calcium supplements i took all those yrs.
i’v stopped taking calcium supplements for a yr now. my oncologist advised me to go easy on soy products n dairy products. last test showed i;m osteoporotic, still have sour/acidic mouth.i need your advise as i’m tired of taking tons of tablets. thank you very much. more power to you.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Anita, you can get tons of advice right here at this website, and if you haven’t yet, you can also download the free handbook 🙂

  29. Sharon

Sounds like olive oil is as good for the body as it is for the salad. Again, thanks for all your research!

  30. Charlotte C.

Kudos to you and many thanks for talking about Proposition 37 regarding GMO products. I have read so much about this and hope all Californians have as well!

  31. Elizabeth Poor

My Dr. is trying to get me to take prolia. He says it is different than the others. What I read about it told me that it was as bad as the others. I am a Save OurBones follower and would like your opinion on
    prolia. Thanks

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Hi Elizabeth, read this to find out why on the surface, Prolia seems to be different from other osteoporosis drugs… but it’s really not:

      https://saveourbones.com/prolia-denosumab-review/

And then, let your doctor know how much you know 🙂

  32. Eileen

To those who don’t like upsells: that is the nature of Internet marketing. It is easy click on the ‘x’ to get rid of the upsell. At least Vivian provides the content first, so it is easy to scroll past it and not miss anything of value.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      That’s right Eileen 🙂

  33. Laurie Cowell

More and more I am noticing that you have enticing headlines about treating various health problems. Then I have to scroll down long repetitive epistles to find out there is money involved. It appears to me that you must be profiting from promoting these products/books. I guess that is the American way of enterprise.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Laurie, I appreciate your opinion and I’m glad that you wish to share it with us. This is an open forum 🙂

But think about all the great advances in science that we have today… and guess what, none of them are free! But what price can you put on research that can show to those in our community who are battling with their high blood pressure that by simply eating certain foods they can reach their goal?

I was really excited about that information, and still am! Also, try to think long-term. Even if there’s an initial expense to get the information, after that they no longer need to pay for costly prescription drugs for the rest of their lives. Doesn’t that make all the sense in the world?

  34. Tshilidzi Ravhura

I have done x-rays of the right hip and the report says oestioorthrosis and i am experiencing pain Dr gave me celebrex 200 three times, what can i do naturally to deal with pain

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Judging by the prescription, your hip pain is probably quite extreme. Because Celebrex has dangerous side effects and doesn’t solve the root cause of the problem (as all synthetic drugs fail to do).

To solve this naturally, you could consult with a Naturopathic doctor. For every toxic synthetic drugs, there are multiple natural replacements. Here’s one example you can read about:

      https://saveourbones.com/dont-take-these-pain-killers-that-slow-down-bone-healing/

  35. Brian Phillips

    Dr. Vivian Goldschmidt,

Great articles, values and web-site. It has opened my eyes as a practitioner (Japanese Acupuncture/Hypnosis/Chinese herbs and western supplements).

I agree that many western drugs can do more harm than good and I try to abide to ” Do no harm!! ”

Helping ones self is another matter. In short, I am a 45 year old male, plump-formerly in excellent shape and no real family history of anything major. I have had numerous injuries/accidents, but do my best. I muscle test and take the best supplements/herbs to my knowledge. I had a spontaneous fracture of the right navicular bone this early summer and a bone & a bone density scan was done showing -2.6 Osteoporosis of lower spine. Cortisol and testosterone are quite low, but???? I am called a medical history, though I do not feel great and baby steps to recover seem to be very slow. Foot is still painful at times.

Anything big that I might be missing!!
    Food for thought!!

    Cheers-Brian, Ontario-Canada

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Hi Brian, you’re actually borderline osteoporotic (T-score -2.5). If you haven’t yet, I urge you to watch the RESTORE video:

      https://saveourbones.com/events/video/

That will give you enough to get started on the right path for your bone health. Then you might want to consider the Osteoporosis Reversal Program with no risk whatsoever, since I give a one year no-questions-asked money back guarantee.

So that’s my “prescription” for you (even though I’m not a doctor 🙂

  36. Jill

    Hi Vivian
Such a ‘con’! Others have commented on the way that you direct us to ‘dodgy’ websites in order to sell us something or other. Do you really believe the nonsense that they peddle and have you declared your self interest in these potential sales?
I wonder if you will answer me or continue to respond very selectively as questions suit your agenda?

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Jill, I encourage everyone to voice their opinions here, and value yours. But frankly, I believe that most in our community would be thrilled to know that they can ditch their ineffective blood pressure drugs and use natural and healthy foods to lower their blood pressure. If I had high blood pressure (which I don’t, fortunately), I would be jumping for joy about the information I’m sharing today. And as I always say, you don’t have the obligation to buy anything.

  37. Rose

About 4 years ago, I stopped taking Evista, which I had been taking for 9 years as there was a POSSIBILITY that it could cause a blood clot! I had suffered a severe painful “jolt” in my left calf & the pain stayed for days. On the 3rd day, my left calf swelled to twice its size. My doctor sent me for an Ultrasound to “see if there was a blood clot, as that was a possibility because I was taking Evista”, quote, unquote! Low & behold, no blood clot was found; it apparently had dissolved somewhere in my body…. He then gave me Actonel to take & within ONE WEEK I had severe pain in my right thumb joint & then soon thereafter my left thumb joint. I stopped it immediately & it took forever for the pain to subside. He & another doctor would not agree with me that the Actonel had caused it. Then he prescribed Fosomax; I filled the prescription, thank goodness, it was only $9, read the label warnings & did not take it. It is still in the original bottle. He is still after me to take another prescription for my osteoporosis condition. It is still an ongoing discussion, with me saying “NO”….. Thanks for listening.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Thanks for sharing your story, Rose… and keep saying “NO!” to osteoporosis drugs…
