3 Delicious Bone-Rejuvenating Dishes You Can Make Using A Blender (And They're Not Smoothies!) - Save Our Bones

One of my favorite ways to pack a lot of bone-nourishing, rejuvenating nutrients into one quick meal is to use my blender.

I love the way it saves me time without sacrificing the benefits of whole foods.

That’s why I often turn to my blender when I need a quick boost for my energy level and my bones. So today I’m sharing three of my favorite blender recipes to make delicious dishes. They take just minutes to prepare and are full of nutrients that will give your bones new life.

We’re going to start with a simple, oatmeal-based pancake recipe that includes a whole banana in the batter. Bananas boost calcium absorption, so it’s like an “infusion” for your bones.

You’ll see that bone-healthy meals do not have to be complicated or difficult to prepare!

1. Banana-Oat Pancakes

One of my favorite ways to eat these pancakes is with a side (or topping) of alkalizing fresh fruits, making them pH-balanced.

Makes 12-16 pancakes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 ¼ cups unsweetened almond milk (or your favorite milk substitute)
  • 1 large ripe banana
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon honey or to taste (you can also substitute with a pinch or two of stevia)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • egg
  • Avocado oil

Directions:

  1. Place all ingredients except the egg and cooking oil in a blender and blend until smooth. Add the egg and blend a few seconds more.
  2. Let stand 10 minutes or longer to thicken batter.
  3. If batter becomes too thick to pour easily, add some milk substitute.
  4. Heat oil to medium high in frying pan or skillet.
  5. Pour 1/4 – 1/2 cup of batter into pan and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side.
  6. Serve with your favorite alkalizing fruits and a dollop of plain yogurt.

2. Simple Salsa

I absolutely love fresh salsa. This 100% alkalizing recipe is rich in lycopene and full of juicy tomato flavor.

6 Servings

Ingredients

  • 6 ripe medium-sized tomatoes
  • ⅓ onion – sweet or red – roughly chopped
  • Small bunch cilantro (you can substitute parsley if you prefer)
  • 1 jalapeno  pepper (or more if you like it hot)
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • Juice of 1 lime (adjust to taste)
  • Sea salt (optional or to taste)

Directions

  1. Roughly chop the tomatoes before placing them in your blender (a food processor also works).
  2. Add the onion, cilantro, and garlic.
  3. Give the mixture a quick few chops in your blender or processor.
  4. Slice one lime and squeeze the juice on top, along with a few pinches of salt and a pinch or two of cayenne pepper.
  5. Add the jalapeno pepper(s) and blend.
  6. For a chunky salsa you want to just do a few quick pulses in the blender or food processor.

3. Mango Sorbet

This refreshing 100% alkalizing recipe is a sweet, icy way to get the bone-building power of two fresh fruits: mangoes and bananas. It’s the perfect dessert on a hot day, and it satisfies your sweet tooth without aging your bones with too much sugar. In fact, it helps keep your bones young.

4-6 Servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups frozen mango cubes, slightly thawed
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey, or to taste (you can also substitute with stevia to taste)

Directions:

  1. Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend at high speed until creamy.
  2. Pour the mixture into a container and freeze.

  4. Barbara

I am learning a lot. Thanks! I would like to do the Osteocleanse, but need to know if I can substitute Limes for the Lemons. I live in the Caribbean and Limes are in season right now, not Lemons, and I simply cannot find Lemons right now.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      Hi Barbara,
Limes are not exactly the same as lemons, but they are alkalizing and have many similar benefits! 🙂

  5. Victoria Bennett

When one gets used to eat less sweet, one can omit the sweetener.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

This is very true! We get “jaded” to sweet tastes when we eat a lot of sugary foods. 🙂

  8. Edna

Delicious recipies! I will start cooking them and I’m pretty sure the family is going to enjoy.

    Thanks,

  9. Pat Monteiro

My blood group is A positive. A lot of these foods are not recommended for our blood group. How do we build bones, when we are not able to eat a lot of these foods.

  10. carla riffel

I just received your beautiful cook book and am looking forward to modifying the recipes for sugar and gluten free eating. I have systemic candida. My question is this: How does eating alkaline foods effect systemic candida? seems like an acid environment kills candida.
    thanks for all you do.

    • Susan

My sympathies are with you. I had systemic candida for 7 years, only diagnosed after 3 years. Your best friends are real cultures yogurt, kefir and green vegetables. I found that many recipes that were touted for IBS did not work for me. It is really individual and I encourage you to continue to experiment for you. I can eat anything now but the onset for me was during menopause which depleted my bones. Lucky for you that this site exits. It’s been a beacon for me. I take my first three month follow up bone reabsorption test this week.

  11. Carole

    Hi Vivian,

I tried your stuffed potato with raw kale, beets & almonds. I used a sweet potato instead of a white potato. It was ABSOLUTELY delicious. AND it was really pretty too. I love beets and never would have thought of that combination. I often make raw kale salads massaging the leaves with lemon juice. From now on your stuffed potato will be a recipe I will use often. I encourage others to try it. I will be trying your Banana Oat Pancakes for my Bed & Breakfast guests and also the Salsa to top eggs and the Mango Sorbet for ME. Thank you.

    Carole

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

The stuffed sweet potato sounds delicious, Carole! And I’m thrilled that you’re discovering delicious food combinations you “never would have thought of.” That’s one of the best things about eating your way to younger bones! 😀
