Are You Listening To Your Body? Learn To Not Ignore The 'Messages' It's Sending You - Save Our Bones

The Medical Establishment wants patients to listen to doctors, not to their own bodies. But if you turn an “ear” to your body’s signs and signals, you can unlock a great deal of information about your health, including the health of your bones.

Your remarkable body has various signaling mechanisms in place to let you know that something’s wrong, but you were never taught how to “tune in” to these signals. Instead, courtesy of Big Pharma and Mainstream Medicine, you’re told that you must mask those signs with drugs so you can just keep going.

In today’s article, you’ll learn how to break the cycle of masking symptoms and to hear what your body is telling you, beginning with learning your body’s “language.”

Symptoms Are Your Body’s Language

You may not have thought about this before, but the way you feel on a given day is actually your body talking to you. Whether you know it or not, your body responds to everything you encounter, day in and day out.

For example, you might have a headache. For many, that means turning to some sort of over-the-counter pain killer so that you don’t have to stop your daily activities, and the cause of the headache is not really considered. But a headache is not normal. It’s your body telling you that something isn’t right.

A headache can mean your muscles are tense, you’re dehydrated, or that you aren’t sleeping enough – these are just a few examples. And the pain-killer approach never takes care of the problem that caused the headache to begin with.

Learn To Listen To Your Body

The key here is to slow down. Going back to the headache example – instead of popping pain-killers, say you stopped for a moment, turned off your phone, closed your eyes, and centered your thoughts on what’s going on. Is your neck stiff? Did you get enough sleep last night? When was the last time you had a glass of water or a snack? What have you been eating today?

If you take a moment to focus on your body, you may be surprised by what you discover. You may find that you feel thirsty and hadn’t even realized it. Maybe you’re hungry for something nutritious, because you’ve been eating sugary junk foods lately.

Just taking a minute to listen to your body’s needs can reveal a lot about how you’re reacting to your environment, diet, and other factors. Here are some signs and symptoms that indicate you need to stop, listen, and then give your body what it needs.

Deciphering Your Body’s Language

It’s easy to get used to feeling less-than-optimal. But part of tuning in to your body’s signals is to take note of anything out of the ordinary. Remember, it’s not normal to experience these sometimes-subtle symptoms listed below.

  • Do you feel like you’re getting old before your time? Your skin, hair, nails, joints and bones may be lacking nutrients and adequate hydration.
  • Cuts, scrapes, and bruises that take a long time to heal can be subtle, but this is a sign that you may be too low on certain macronutrients for proper wound healing to take place. And those macronutrients, such as zinc and Vitamin C are essential to your bones.
  • Always getting sick? Your immune system is most likely not up to par. Remember, it’s not normal to get sick constantly. Your immune system needs rest and nutritious foods rich in Vitamins C and D, zinc, and probiotics to keep it functioning normally. And these nutrients, all Foundation Supplements, are critical to your bones
  • Insomnia can be a sign of excessive stress, and may be your body’s way of begging you to slow down. Adequate sleep is crucial to the health of your bones.
  • If you’re constantly tired, there must be a reason. It could be something as simple as inadequate sleep; but it could also mean plenty of other things, such as nutrient deficiency, infection, or toxin exposure. In fact…

Toxin Exposure Deserves Special Mention

Your body responds to toxins, whether inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin. Regardless of the means of exposure, your liver and kidneys bear the burden of detoxification, and when they get worn out from the barrage of poisons, your body responds with symptoms, some of them visible.

For instance, unexplained weight gain or loss, digestive distress, or feeling unusually hot and sweaty are signs that your liver is over-burdened.

Changes in urine color and consistency, unexplained swelling, nausea, and feeling very sluggish during the day are all signals from your kidneys. They are telling you they need a rest!

It’s important to give these organs a periodic rest, especially if you’ve taken medications. In fact, side effects from drugs are a strong signal that your body has had enough.

What’s startling is that The Establishment is well aware of these side effects; yet they continue to prescribe more drugs, some even to treat side effects. In the case of bisphosphonates, the most popular osteoporosis drugs, the evidence clearly shows that your body can’t handle them.

Study Confirms The Poisonous Nature Of Bisphosphonates

When researchers reviewed the action of bisphosphonates in the body, they concluded that a “drug holiday” should be considered due to the fact that:

“[…] concerns have emerged about adverse effects related to long-term use.”1

The study goes on to point out that bisphosphonates accumulate in the body, and it mentions the drug’s “benefits” continuing through that holiday; but the fact that a holiday is even recommended should give anyone with osteoporosis or osteopenia pause.

Taking a drug holiday is even trickier with intravenous bisphosphonates such as Reclast, which stays active in your body for a year. The side effects of Reclast can be devastating and immediate, something that’s well-known in the medical community. In fact, it’s so well-known, that a…

Shocking Report Instructs Doctors On Management Of Adverse Effects Of Bisphosphonates

“Evidence of both common and uncommon side effects of intravenous bisphosphonates continues to accumulate.”2

This startling quote is from a 2006 study published in the Annals of Oncology. The study goes into detail about the various side effects of the three most commonly prescribed bisphosphonates – pamidronate (Aredia), zoledronic acid (Reclast), and ibandronate (Boniva) – and cautions doctors to be aware of these effects.

Hidden in the study there’s an even more shocking phrase:

“Excessive and prolonged treatment with pamidronate may have compromised the bone quality despite the increase in bone density.”2

This is precisely what the Osteoporosis Reversal Program has been saying all along. Bisphosphonates sacrifice bone quality, which is as important in fracture prevention as bone quantity. In sharp contrast to osteoporosis drugs, the longer you’re on the Program, the better your bone quality and general health. There’s no need to take a “holiday” from the Program’s safe, effective, nutritional approach to bone health.

The main “holiday” your body needs is a holiday from toxins, and the Osteoporosis Fresh Start Cleanse is an excellent place to start.

The Osteoporosis Fresh Start Cleanse Rids The Body Of Osteoporosis Drugs In Just 7 Days

If you’ve taken osteoporosis drugs, you’re probably concerned about bisphosphonates’ tendency to accumulate and linger in the body. You may also still experience some adverse side effects, especially as you’ve started “listening” to your body, and you know something is amiss.

The Osteoporosis Fresh Start Cleanse is “The 7 Day Bone Building Accelerator” not only because it works in one week, but also because it accelerates the bone-building process by flushing out osteoporosis drugs and other toxins, cleansing your liver and kidneys.

    Hi Vivian,
I introduced your website to my daughter-in-law. She teaches Crossfit and has lady in her class who is dealing with osteoporosis so she is glad to pass along you information. She uses Monk Fruit and would like to know if it is alkaine. I would like to know if Erythrithol is Acid or Alkaline. Thank you. I have you book but is there a place on your website that lists all acid and alkaline foods?

  2. Lois

Hi Vivian, I’ve been a follower of your bone-building family for many years and am very grateful. I have always been “anti-drug” but a year ago had a heart attack and am now on statin and aspirin (and hating it!). My eye dr wants me to go on the new Tepezza because of my Grave’s eye disease, which I’ve had for almost 30 years. This drug is an injectable so it is not easy to stop if there are undesirable side effects, which of course there will be. Do you know anything about tepezza? I’d apprec your thoughts … thanks so much! Lois

I’m so thankful for your consistent help!! Two questions: Reviewing your book, I noticed that arugula was not listed in the acidifying/alkalizing column. Could you tell me which it is?
Why does grapefruit have an asterisk behind it?
    Love your emails!!

    Alma McNamara

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      Hi Alma,
Arugula is alkalizing. 🙂 You can read more about it in this post:
      https://saveourbones.com/eat-this-uniquely-bone-healthy-green-food/

As far as the asterisk beside grapefruit goes, you’ll notice that all citrus fruits have an asterisk. At the bottom of the list, you’ll see the following note:

      *Although it might seem that
      citrus fruits would have an
      acidifying effect on the body,
the citric acid they contain actually
      makes them alkalizing.

I have recently been diagnosed with op, at age 59, with -3.7 in hips, -3.8 in spine, so it’s pretty severe. I want to treat this naturally and have started supplements and exercise, but everytime my back hurts after exercise I’m scared to death I have fractured a vertebrate. I have refused fosamax but what will my bones be like in 20 years? I really am unsupported in this journey since my health care is through the VA.

    • Nichola Wallace

Hi Susan, my scores were similar to yours in my early to mid 60’s. A couple of months ago an x-ray showed a compression fracture in my spine, mid thorax. I got x-rayed after twice suffering terrible pain around my rib cage which took 3 weeks to come good. After triggering the pain again, I was beginning to fear this was my future, having to be very careful what I did all the time. Meanwhile my doctor is recommending the osteoporosis drugs so that I don’t have more fractures and end up all bent over.

This time the pain wasn’t as severe but wasn’t really improving. I figured that the pain was caused by inflammation of the nerves at the fracture site and have been taking aspirin daily since I heard that it’s a good and safe anti-inflammatory, taken with food, of course. The pain is mostly gone, only minor and rare now and I’m no longer afraid of doing things. I’m careful of which exercises I do so as not to hurt my back.

I refuse to take those drugs because I’d rather not have brittle bones and compromised immune system, or any of the other nasty side effects. And I don’t think I’ll bother with any more DXA scans. I’ll be 70 in a few months and I hope this is an encouragement for you.

  6. Birgit

Thursday, 4th of February 2016 I went to see my GP about an Iron pill she ordered a long time ago which resulting in making me constipated, I go for blood test every 3 months as I have ckd of which I have had since young, last blood test showed the Iron was low, showed her a natural product which I bought at a health food store which does not cause constipation and is 99% when absorbed, the Iron pill she ordered is less than 50%, she commented that it looked good and is OK for me to try. I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis not long ago, I am 79. The real reason I wanted to see her was to talk about the medication she ordered for it, RISEDRONATE, as I lately have read a lot about it on the computer, most of it negative and became concerned. I contacted my great nephew who is a pharmacuist (incorrectly spelled) is married and lives in Denmark and work for an American company and his sister is a professor and teaches it. He did admit it was true but in your case it is ok to take it because of your age as it takes years for it to really work ?Told my doctor about how I felt about this drug and about my great nephew, I wanted to get off this, she disagreed and said the drug works but it was up to me to decide, she also said the patient is on it for 5 years and then stops, and how am I going to treat it, I told her with nutrition. This is so far I have come, will have to make up my mind if to join your program Vivian, I have only read positive about it, but there is others as well on the computer…

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

I understand you’re “on the fence,” Birgit. I encourage you to continue to research, learn, ask questions, and then decide how best to proceed. Remember, it’s your bone health and your body, and you, not your doctor, will experience any negative effects of osteoporosis drugs.

      Best wishes moving forward!

  7. Dianne N

Your newsletter and weekend challenges are just the thing I need at this time.
I was diagnosed too late with osteoporosis, my T-score was -4.5. It was discovered because I got a fracture in my spine. Nobody questioned the many times I broke ribs over the years!! But to be fair, it doesn’t help when doctors come and go and us moving around in the mix. The doctor told me my bones are like crumbly cookies. I was told to not do anything physical and take FosAvance. For the next 4-5 years I listened. I lost 2 1/2 inches of height. I told my doctor I feel like I have to exercise and was told I could go in the pool, but don’t swim. Just put on a lifebelt and dog paddle. I could do nothing that makes my body twist – bowling, dancing, golf, swimming, etc. All I could do was walk, and only when I was over the latest fracture. I could not life my newborn grandchildren. I could not travel and sightsee. I could not walk more than 30 minutes before it felt like a 200 pound weight on my back that was burning me. It seemed every time I moved I broke (or crushed) something. I reached up to get something out of a cupboard…. crunch. Making the bed lifted the corner of the mattress to tuck in the sheet… crunch. One day I woke up with my second vertebrae compression fracture – what the heck? I didn’t DO anything?
Last winter I heard that FosAvance was not good for us, and that it caused fractures. I told my doctor and he said he’d look into it. Now he has moved and I have no doctor. I talked to a friend who is like me. She talked to her doctor and he told her to stop taking it. I did as well. Since then I have had not one fracture! I did have a bad fall but xrays showed nothing broken. It’s a miracle! There are torn ligaments where my pelvis meets my back and the er doctor said it will take a long time to get over. He noted in my file that I was on FosAvance. I told him I had stopped taking it. He was flabbergasted and told me it was to protect me from fractures. I said “Ha! It didn’t do it’s job!”
The first three months were the worst, feeling like a train wreck, then I could graduate from a walker to a cane. It has been eight months and I can finally walk far enough to be able to call it exercise.
The worst thing about the fall was that since I had done no exercise and gained quite a bit of weight I could not get my self up, nor help my husband get me up. I had no strength anywhere…. arms, legs, back.
Now I am not listening to doctors but listening to what my body is telling me – It is telling me that my body is ready to get back into shape. I think if I can slowly add the right exercises along with eating the right foods, I can get my life back.
My friend found your website and passed it along to me and I am forever grateful!

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Thanks for sharing your inspirational story, Dianne! This is yet more proof that bisphosphonates such as Fosamax (Fosavance abroad) do more harm than good. I love the way you’re listening to your body now, and it’s ‘telling’ you to get back in shape 🙂 Let us know of your progress, and don’t let the Establishment force you to change your mind!

  9. bea mowry

hi vivian i just was hospitalizedone week ago with acute diverticulitis and was put on two perscription ciprofloxacin 500mg andmetronidazole500mg iwasreally scared taking these pills but didnt know what else to do i never take any pills not even tylenol i want to get this out of my system what can i do i would really love a reply i thank you so much bea

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Bea, I hope you’re feeling better. Your doctor prescribed you two antibiotics, and given the condition you were hospitalized for, it makes a lot of sense. However, next time you’re prescribed ciproflaxin, ask if it could be replaced with another broad spectrum antibiotic. Ciproflaxin is a flouroquinolone, and as its name implies, it has fluoride in it. No big deal if you take it for a short period of time, but it’s good to know for the future.
      Get well soon!

  10. Paulette Dowhower

I just want to say thank you to Vivian for all she does to encourage us from all the negative pressure we face daily to take drugs that harm us more than they help. Thank you Vivian!

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      You’re so very welcome!

  11. Sandra Geraghty

After reading your comments about calcium carbonate, I changed to a seaweed calcium plus larger amounts of magnesium. My recent dexa scan showed an improved reading from 4.9 down to 4.5. They see it as a significant improvement but would still prefer me to take medication (which I totally refuse to take!!)

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

That’s great, Sandra! And stick to your convictions, always.
