From Negative To Positive: 5 Ways To Turn Around Your Osteoporosis Or Osteopenia Diagnosis - Save Our Bones

An osteoporosis or osteopenia diagnosis can completely rock your world. I know how profoundly it affected me, and how easy it is to let fear get the better of you.

But I was able to take control of my fear and transform it into an inspired quest to find natural solutions to reverse osteoporosis. This led to the creation of the Osteoporosis Reversal Program, which has helped thousands worldwide overcome osteoporosis and osteopenia using a natural, drug-free approach.

I am fully aware that you may find it difficult to let go of the fear instilled by the Medical Establishment and to have a positive attitude.

So I can’t wait to share five ways to turn an osteoporosis diagnosis from something negative into something positive and empowering.

Let’s get started!

Don’t Let The Negatives Accumulate

As mentioned earlier, the Medical Establishment tends to add to the fear of an osteoporosis diagnosis (in fact, many doctors use fear as a tactic to convince patients to take osteoporosis drugs). This sets the stage for a negative mindset and unnecessary added stress.

Chances are, you were also concerned about the long-term future when you received that diagnosis. Whether it’s the fear of falling, becoming disabled, losing your independence, or being a burden on others, the list can go on and on…if you let it.

That’s why the first step is …

1. Don’t Worry About The Future Or The Past – Focus On The Moment

Have you spent time around children? One thing we can say about kids is that they definitely live in the moment. That’s one of the things that makes young people think they are invincible! The future just doesn’t concern them.

While you don’t want to be reckless, a healthy dose of living in the moment is excellent for your outlook and your bone health. Pay attention to whom you are with, consider where you are, what you’re doing, how you feel…right now. Both the future and the past cannot be changed; the only time you have in which to act and think – and influence your future – is in the present moment. Think about it!

This concept is discussed in more detail in Chapter 14 of the Osteoporosis Reversal Program – it’s that important for your bone health not to worry about the future.

2. Keep Your Mind Open

Narrow-mindedness closes you to new experiences and information, and such a mindset makes you uncomfortable when others discuss differing beliefs and ideas. On the other hand, a person with an open mind is interested in why and how people hold different viewpoints, and wants to learn more.

Being open-minded doesn’t mean you can’t hold firm convictions, beliefs, or principles. On the contrary, if you are confident in your own convictions, you don’t feel so defensive, and you don’t mind hearing about other people’s viewpoints. In fact, such confidence in your personal health choices is vital for overcoming osteoporosis.

Having confidence on your own ideas sets the groundwork for being at peace with yourself and listening thoughtfully to others.

3. Be At Ease In Your Own Skin

Just as no one’s skin is perfect in the physical sense, so no one is perfect in personality, talent, ability, and so forth. Learn to accept your own flaws, whether physical or personal, and don’t let imperfections become the center of your thought universe.

You might be tempted to think of osteoporosis as a personal failing – if you hadn’t done this or had done more of that, you might not have low bone density. But once again, everyone is flawed, bone health is easy to attain, and osteoporosis is reversible!

You can’t take a break from interacting with yourself, so making peace with who you are is essential to happiness. Let go of self-doubt and trust yourself to make the right bone-health decisions. Remember, you’re the one (not your doctor) who has to live with the consequences of your bone health choices, and you are perfectly capable of making the right choices for your bones and your health.

4. Don’t Over-Think Things

It’s easy to get caught in an analytical loop, dwelling on your osteoporosis and your health in general until it occupies most of your energy and focus. But over-thinking things won’t bring a solution; rather, it sets the stage for paralyzing fear and uncertainty.

Instead of “stewing” over the problem, take positive action and face the issue head-on with optimism. There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic. For one thing, your body was designed for health, and will respond to healthy “input” like the plan described in the Osteoporosis Reversal Program. There’s no reason you can’t do what many others have done.

5. Don’t Fret About Your Future

When you get diagnosed with osteoporosis, one of the first thoughts that may enter your head is fear of the future. Mainstream Medicine presents osteoporosis as a degenerative and chronic disease, so naturally you envision a bleak future.

But this is just not true! Osteoporosis is not a disease at all, as the Program states. It’s simply your bones’ response to an overly-acidic body environment, and when the environment if brought back into balance through proper nutrition with Foundation Foods, Foundation Supplements, and practicing bone-building exercises, your bones can rejuvenate.

As I mentioned earlier…

The Only Time You Can Influence Your Future Is In The Present

When you do what’s best for you in the here and now, you will reap healthier bones in the future.

With the Osteoporosis Reversal Program by your side, you won’t get caught in the over-analytical trap again. And because the Program is backed by over 200 scientific studies, you can rest assured that it is scientifically sound.

Thanks to its easy-to-follow format, the Program is designed to take the worry out of bone health, plain and simple.

I was glad when I found your website. I was diagnose almost 10 years ago. I decided on my own that I would not take the medication. I was walking at least four days a week and taking calcium with vitamin D not drinking milk. I also take vitamin K eat plenty of vegetables and fruit. Your website confirm for me not to take the medication. I would like to say thank you Vivian your website just confirm that I was doing the right thing and it has helped me a lot and encouraged me to keep doing what I’ve been doing.

  2. Norma

I am a 64 yr old women and on 2/8/16 was diagnosed with osteoporosis. I am an active person, but it was quite a blow to hear hear this diagnosis from my gyn. The first words out of her mouth were Prolia. Just this after noon, I received a phone call from my local pharmacy wanting to discuss my insurance coverage for the medication. Thank goodness, I came across your website and read such positive reviews from everyone. Thanks to you and your forum, I called back the pharmacy and told them I WILL NOT be taking Prolia, instead I will be following your advice and recommendations. Thanks to all of you

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

It sounds like you found this information in the nick of time, Norma! Welcome to Save Our Bones, and best wishes moving forward on your drug-free bone health journey. 🙂

  3. Barbara Petrizzo

Hello Vivian: I was very happy to read that osteoporosis is reversible. I hope i can reverse it for myself. I just started trying to eat more veggies and fruit. Also having my diet contain more dairy products. I was wondering if you know what the low numbers are on a bone density test. My doctors said my numbers were low. On a T-score i’ve read 2.5. for hip. How high does it have to come up to to be normal.

Kind regards, thank you for answering my emails.
    Barbara Petrizzo

  4. Sharlee

Need info about Pagets bone disease and if this program can help at all with it

  5. Marilyn

    Hi Vivian,
I am 65 years old with a very small frame (most of my life actually). I recently had my 4th DEXA scan and my osteoporosis is a little worse having been on your program now for three years. I am very depressed. My back went from -2.9 to -3.2. My hips are worse but not in the osteoporosis range but close. I was hoping my numbers would be the same or better.. I take organic calcium, eats lots of fruit an vegs with some protein, and do lots of walking. I try to do some strength training with weights but limited to my back issues (spine goes out of alignment and I see a chiropractor regularly). Of course, my primary doctor wants me on drugs but I refused. I am basically a very healthy person with no blood pressure problems or cholesterol problems. I keep active as a homemaker, walking, and bike riding. I am limited to many of the densercise moves because of my back issues.
Anyway, I will keep up with the program and will try not to get discouraged. Thanks for listening.
    Marilyn

    • Karen

This may come a little late, but the best way for your bones to have calcium, is taking calcium supplements and having the right diet. Organic calcium… not that great. Also, if you don’t take vitamin D supplements or go outside while it’s sunny, then you won’t absorb that much calcium anyways.
Talk to your doctor, ask him what you can do to have stronger bones and don’t refuse to take medication unless you have a good long talk with your doctor.

  6. Mary

  7. Jan Johnson

    Hi Vivian,

I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and was wondering if carbonated spring water is detrimental to bones in such a weakened state. Thanks. I’ve since given up beer but hear that of the two the beer is better, Your thoughts…

    • Judy

I believe carbonated beverages leach calcium from your bones, so should be avoided. My drink of choice is water with lemon…I squuze my own and make the juice into ice cubes for convenience. Am sure ther are other healthier drinks out there , too besides carbonated drinks and beer…keep looming for what works best for you.

  8. 0LIVIA COWAN

always glad to read your emails and exercise advise. What about doing some of these exercises on holiday in a swimming pool?

  9. Christine Foulkes-Taylor

Wonderful advice Vivian. I have been following your program for a couple of years, & feel great. I do exercises to music twice a week & yoga once a week & try & eat the correct foods. It works!

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

That sounds fantastic, Christine! Isn’t it wonderful to feel more energetic and positive?

      • Michele Layne

I’d like to know why Savers does not answer the comments of those that results are not good or the one regarding Pagets disease?

  10. jon laing

I am just about to invest in your programme. I have been told I have a parathyroid tumour as I have far too much calcium in my blood.
Hence my bone density is probably suffering. Are you familiar with this problem and will the programme be of help?
    Thank you
    Jon

  11. Diane

I agree staying positive is essential. Doing exercise you like is a must. I recently changed from doing treadmill, which is boring, to doing 30 mins aerobic dance to rock and roll music at home at least 5 days a week. It gives me so much energy, it is had more of an impact on my physical and mental state that I highly recommend it. It is so much fun. The other great thing, totally free. I am 5 years off drugs and have not degenerated any further.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

That sounds like a lot of fun, Diane! And congratulations on going drug-free.

  12. Babs

I agree 100% with what your saying and what I do to keep on a positive note is never feel sorry for myself or compare myself with others never think about the past just think of what I have to get better in the future.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      Good for you, Babs!

  13. Linda

    Hi Vivian,

Could you please let me know which issue of the BMJ recently had the article about the ineffectiveness of biphosphonates. I would like to get that issue.

    Thank you.

  14. Jan

I am seriously considering getting my next bone scan at another place than many previous years. Last year I got Prolia shot, none since, due to my female physicians overpowering yet
    charming personality.
My obgyn offers bone density tests and he is laid back and objective.
I am 77, have osteoporis, stenosis, celiac and my appointment is July 18. What is your thought about going to a new Dexa location??

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

If you have the choice, Jan, it’s not a bad idea to go somewhere different for your scan. It will be a different machine, different technicians, and an opportunity for other viewpoints. 🙂

  15. Zara

    Hi Vivian and the team
Does OSTPO fall into the same group as Strontium?
I have been following the ‘Save Our Bones’ programme now for over a year, and although my bone density hasn’t improved (aged 59 years with borderline Osteoporosis in spine and wrists, Osteopenia in hips), neither has it gotten much worse (a good thing I guess…)
It was suggested that I try this supplement (which I have been told is plant based)
    Your input would be appreciated..
Thanks again for all your support, I thoroughly enjoy reading your reports and receiving your encouragement….
    Warm regards
    Zara

    • Customer Support

      Hi Zara,

Vivian does not recommend OSTPO, because it claims to increase serum oestradiol levels. She does not recommend any products that influence hormone balances. 🙂

      • Zara

        Thank you 🙂

  16. Sheena

    Thanks Vivian,
These pointers do well to serve us in all areas of our life…focus on the now, do everything in your power to do right in the moment and both the past and future dissolve.

A calm mind breathes deep and a clear mind flies high.

Thank you for the wealth of solid information you have dedicated to sharing with us through Save our Bones.

    Much appreciated.
    Sheena

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      You are welcome, Sheena. 🙂

  17. Christine Piuni

My latest Bone Density test is astounding. Thanks to your positive emails and making some changes, like my diet and adding strontium to my regimen as directed by my naturopath.
My results went from osteoporosis to osteopenia in a year with a % change from previous of +12% in spinal and +9.97% in hip.
Even my GP was surprised and pleased.
I attribute the changes to calcium, Vit D, Strontium and Osteoforce and the Osteoporosis Reversal Program.
    Thanks Vivien.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

It’s clear that you are being proactive about your bone health, Christine!

As far as strontium goes, I want to encourage you to learn more about this element and how it affects bones. Here is a post I wrote about strontium that has pertinent information you might like to check out:

      https://saveourbones.com/strontium-demistyfied/

  18. Carol

Thank you Vivian for all this helpful information! Lately I’ve been making good changes to my diet and have notice a big difference in how I feel. Even with these small changes I feel stronger and some previous health concerns have improved. I want to keep building on these changes and I’m determined to see restoration to all my health conditions.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Small changes are where great results can start, Carol!

  19. Lynn Carr

I agree with all of your comments. When I was offered osteoporosis drugs I categorically refused purely – (not because I knew of their side effects) – because I was aware that any pills whatsoever cannot be good for you. Our body is not adapted to medicines or drugs therefore I never take pills unless it is absolutely essential – such as excruciating pain. One thing I cannot stand is pain. All existing tablets have side effects and some are irreversible so why take the risk? At the moment I am taking Ramipril tabs as I was told my kidneys are losing their elasticity. I feel very dizzy with these pills so do not take them every day. However I am told that these are very high dosage tabs in controlling blood pressure. I am not surprised if that is why they were given to me. I shall be consulting a few chemists who understand more about drugs than GPs and if these pills are more adaptable to controlling blood pressure than kidneys then I shall stop taking them. Furthrmore I have put on a stone in weight even though I control my diet. I have a feeling that Ramipril is to blame and I shall check this out.
My bone density is not too bad the moment but I am due to have a check in six months time. I eat things that are good for my bones and follow certain instructions
that Vivien recommends and this has helped quite a lot. Thanks again Vivien.
Wish everyone the very best of health.
    Lynn

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      Hi Lynn,
You’re on the right track with your determination to learn more about the drug you’re taking. Gathering knowledge is an excellent way to fend off fear and worry.

  20. Eric

My main comment is become cautious with the prescription drugs you trust your Doctor to tell you about the side effects on Bone Density. I have epilepsy and first it was dilantin, and my blood tests, I never achieved the blood levels necessary to stop my seizures and it is a well known cause of bone density loss, then it was Zonegran, which worked great at controlling seizures but I went from a thin 122 pounds and stopped taking it at the instruction of my neurologist when I dropped down to 105 pounds! Yikes he didn’t tell me about it being a great drug for weight loss, and with my weight loss so did my bone density. Then it was the old standard Phenobarbital, great for controlling seizures and no weight loss, but the old standard is also well known for bone density loss too. None of this was told to me until I broke both my left tibia and fibula below my left knee, now with 13 pieces of Stainless Steel are in my left leg, and it took all of over a year to heal even with a 5 times normal daily dose of vitamin D3, and 1.5 grams of cal/mag a day. My DEXA scan came out on average at -1.5 on the T scale. So now you can see why you should check every single drug’s side effects online because when my Doctor did order the DEXA scan, and he put it down on the order, he wrote in due to patients medications DEXA scan needed. I should have been tested right from the get go, and not until I fractured my leg in the worst way did I find out these drugs strip calcium out bad enough to be a cause of fractures. Now I need a hip replaced but my orthopedist told me not until he see’s a current DEXA scan, the old one is out dated, and he literally took the words out of my mouth because that was my next point, I’m not going for that major surgery until I know my bone density is good enough to hold the screws into my hip. Doctors do make mistakes, and as far as that goes more then one Doctor failed to warn me about these most unwanted side effects.

Read about the side effects online, drugs.com is a great place to check out side effects. Thanks for reading this, and follow my advise, check side effects before you start up any new medication, and ask your doctor about the bone density reducing side effects as well as your pharmacists.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      Hi Eric,
It’s clear you gained valuable knowledge through your experience, even though it was difficult, and I thank you for sharing it with the community where it can help others.

Unfortunately, when it comes to drug side-effects, most doctors won’t take the time to discuss them (often there are just too many, or, ironically, the doctor wants to avoid “scaring” you away from taking the drug). But there are plenty of resources where you can do your own research, as you pointed out. And taking matters into your own hands is part of forming a positive outlook!

Thanks for the reminder and for being brave enough to share.

  21. sandra sullivan

i agree with above your emails are such a help i had a dexta scan 6yrs ago and have osteoporosis in my spine and osteopina in my hip refused medication had another scan last year its no worse do take thyroid tablets as had my thyroid removed

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

It’s great that you’re maintaining your bone health, Sandra!

  22. Val elliott

    Hi
I just want to say how helpful, and so much information Save Our Bones have given me, the emails are so encouraging, after being on a bone drug for some years, then I found this site and took the plunge to come off and just followed your guide lines, and I have never looked back, I am seventy three years old and feeling good, I play golf and i am very active.
    Many thanks to your programs.
    V.Elliott

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

I am so glad you shared that, Val – it inspires others, and as your story demonstrates, having that positive support and hearing about others’ success can make the difference between “taking the plunge” or not!
