Save Our Bones Bulletin: Seniors Beware! 2016 Flu Shot Contains Dangerous Adjuvant; Exciting New Research Links Sleep To Immune System “Memory”; Toxic Pesticide In Cow’s Milk Destroys Brain Cells; And More! - Save Our Bones

This month’s Bulletin is the perfect way to close out 2015. It’s full of cutting-edge news about bone health, starting with the latest information about a flu vaccine for people 65 and older, which contains a dangerous substance specifically designed to inflame the immune system.

Speaking of the immune system, breakthrough research shows a fascinating correlation between sleep and our immune system’s ability to remember pathogens.

And believe it or not, there's yet more bad news about milk. A comprehensive thirty-year study reveals high levels of a dangerous pesticide in cow’s milk that causes neural deterioration and the onset of Parkinson’s disease.

We have a lot to cover today, so let’s get started!

1. 2016 Flu Shot: Inflammatory Adjuvant Added To Force Response In Seniors’ Immune Systems

Vaccines contain antigens, weakened forms of the flu virus (or other pathogen). To make the body’s immune cells respond to these antigens, manufacturers often add substances called adjuvants. Typically, aluminum-based adjuvants are supposed to stimulate inflammation in the body’s immune cells.

But this is the first time in the U.S.A. that a just-approved flu shot for seniors contains MF59, a dangerous adjuvant to artificially enhance their immune response.

Relevant Excerpt:

“A new flu vaccine called Fluad has been manufactured without the aluminum adjuvant, but it is made with another toxic adjuvant called MF59, which is primarily squalene oil and surfactants. The MF59 adjuvant is an oil-in-water emulsion that generates uniform squalene oil droplets. With the addition of two non-ionic surfactants to the mixture, this squalene oil is stabilized and allowed to act as a delivery system for the antigens in the vaccine.

According to an FDA analysis of the adjuvant, the squalene oil ‘activates local cells to take up the co-injected HA antigens that are present in the aqueous phase of the emulsion.’ In this action, the squalene oil becomes a precursor of cholesterol and steroid hormones, allowing for the increase of antigen intake in cells. This emulsion, which causes inflammation in the cells, is being fast-tracked by the FDA for speedy approval. This vaccine is designed for seniors over age 65. …

The vaccine has been tested on about 1,000 healthy Americans over the age of 65. Several fully investigated adverse events have been reported, including the onset of chronic disease. Despite its shortcomings, the Fluad vaccine was sent through an accelerated licensing process…”1

The FDA reports that these “adverse effects” range from pain (some so severe it was incapacitating), fever, erythema, and headache to nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and myalgia. Some of these effects came on within 30 minutes of receiving Fluad.

Yet this fall, Fluad was fast-tracked toward approval. And in the last week of November, the FDA gave its manufacturer the green light, even though on 2014, Italian regulators temporarily banned the vaccine because it caused 19 deaths.2

This is unconscionable. Not only has this substance shown itself to be harmful after one shot (imagine the havoc it would wreak with annual exposure!); but researchers freely admit that they don’t know much about it. The most recent FDA report says merely that:

“It is thought that the MF59 functions as a delivery system that activates local cells to take up the co-injected HA antigens that are present in the aqueous phase of the emulsion.”3

This raises many cautionary red flags, despite the rush to get Fluad on the market. The Establishment is missing a major point – the flu vaccine is not effective at producing antibodies. If it were, adjuvants would not be needed to begin with. The main problem lies with the delivery – vaccines are injected, and the body is not designed to deal with a virus introduced directly into the blood stream.

The flu virus is typically contracted via the mucous membranes, where it encounters the first line of defense: the innate immune system. But with a shot, this line of defense is completely bypassed.

So Big Pharma is trying to make up for this deficiency by introducing a toxic chemical to the flu shot in the hopes that it will force the immune system to work in a way it’s not designed to work. And the effects can be catastrophic.

Given the importance of a functional immune system and bone health, it makes much more sense to naturally build the body’s immunity by eating probiotic-rich foods, such as organic plain yogurt, exercising regularly, and balancing your body’s pH with flu-fighting, nutrient-rich Foundation Foods. In addition, as our next headline explains, getting plenty of quality sleep also helps ward off the flu (and other illnesses).

2. Sleep Strengthens Your Immune System’s “Long-Term Memory”

Our immune system is truly amazing! Scientists have discovered yet another fascinating aspect of this system: long-term memory of pathogens – and how to fight them – is developed during deep sleep.

Relevant Excerpt:

“The immune system ‘remembers’ an encounter with a bacteria or virus by collecting fragments from the bug to create memory T cells, which last for months or years and help the body recognize a previous infection and quickly respond. These memory T cells appear to abstract ‘gist information’ about the pathogens, as only T cells that store information about the tiniest fragments ever elicit a response. The selection of gist information allows memory T cells to detect new pathogens that are similar, but not identical, to previously encountered bacteria or viruses.”4[emphasis added]

Incredible! Notice that the pathogen need not be the exact same one – similar pathogens are also recognized by the immune system. This is of particular importance where influenza is concerned, because the same strain doesn’t emerge each year.

As you’re probably aware, flu vaccine manufacturers must predict which strain will emerge each year. Not surprisingly, they often miss the mark, rendering the vaccine completely useless. But a well-rested immune system is ahead of the game, remembering similarities between pathogens and coming to your defense to keep you healthy. And much of this happens while you sleep.

Like so many healthful practices, getting quality sleep has more than one benefit. In addition to allowing the immune system to “remember,” deep sleep is also important for your bone health. Healthful bone remodeling depends on getting a good night’s sleep, with bone density decreasing correlatively with sleep deprivation.5

So while you’re focusing on getting more sleep, you’ll have yet one more reason to to avoid the “warm glass of milk before bed” that’s so often recommended by the Establishment. Here’s why…

3. New Study Shows Cow’s Milk Consumption Linked To Parkinson’s Disease

In the early 1980s,Hawaiian pineapple farmers used copious amounts of heptachlor epoxide, a highly toxic pesticide. When milk cows were fed a mixture that included debris leftover from pineapple processing, the pesticide made its way into their milk. Thirty years later, the devastating effects of drinking that milk are manifesting.

Relevant Excerpt:

“The researchers looked at Japanese-American men in Hawaii, where the pesticide was frequently used, and found that those who drank more than two cups of milk daily at the start of the study had 40 percent fewer brain cells in an area of the brain called the substantia nigra 30 years later, on average, compared with similar men who drank less than two cups of milk per day.

The loss of brain cells in this area of the brain may be an early sign of Parkinson’s disease, and can start decades before any visible symptoms of the disease occur, the researchers said. The study included men whose average age was 54 at the start of the study. …

The researchers also found that residues of the pesticide, called heptachlor epoxide, were present in the brains of 90 percent of the men who drank the most milk, compared with 63 percent of those who did not drink any milk.”5

Heptachlor epoxide’s toxicity is well known. Back in 1993, a collaborative research effort between multiple universities revealed this substance’s extensive harmful effects:

“Heptachlor is highly toxic to humans and can be absorbed through the skin, lungs and gastrointestinal tract. It causes hyperexcitation of the central nervous system and damage to the liver. Poisoning symptoms observed in laboratory animals include lethargy, incoordination, tremors, convulsions, stomach cramps or pain, and coma.”7

It goes on to point out that heptachlor is stored in fatty tissues, and can emerge from these tissues and cause symptoms “long after actual exposure.”6 In fact, chronic exposure can result in the same debilitating symptoms as acute exposure, according to the report.

It is important to point out that while this data looked at levels of a specific pesticide in milk in the early 1980s, and that heptachlor was banned in the U.S.A. in 1988, pesticide residue of various types is still present in cow’s milk. In 2004, the USDA reported that nearly 100% of the milk sampled contained residues of a disturbingly large number of pesticides, including a component of DDT, a long-banned pesticide that still persists in the soil.

Fast-forward to 2015, when new research exposed the relationship between Parkinson’s disease and drinking milk that contained abnormally high levels of heptachlor.8

While we’ve looked at the devastating neurological effects of pesticide residue in milk, it’s important to point out that pesticide residue is detrimental to bones, too. And what makes this truly sad is that throughout the decades, milk has been touted as “good for bones.” I, for one, am convinced that it is not – there is just too much evidence to the contrary. That’s why…

The Osteoporosis Reversal Program Warns About Bone And General Health Damage Caused By Drinking Cow’s Milk

This is often a surprise to those who are new to the Program. After all, most mainstream doctors still tell their patients with osteoporosis or osteopenia to “drink plenty of milk.” Yet milk has an acidifying effect on the body, and too much of it throws the body off balance and sets the stage for bone deterioration.

The Osteoporosis Reversal Program emphasizes and explains the body’s own remarkable ability to protect itself from disease and heal itself from various conditions, including osteoporosis and osteopenia.

Just to clarify…..you are saying that yoghurt is ok…made with milk? Raw milk is banned in Australia.

What about cheese…made with milk again?

    Thank you

  2. Betty

    Vivian,
Thank you so much for all the valuable information you share with us. This is most interesting about milk. I prefer milk in my tea but must try and find an alternative that tastes O.K. in tea. I don’t like soya but then it is not good for us anyway. Flu jabs are not a problem as I don’t have them anyway.

  3. Margaret McCullough

I am following your Programme Vivian and have just requested digital version of ‘Bone Appetite’. I received the download ok (in my daughter, Paula’s name as she has Pay Pal a/c and I am not familiar with ordering on line. Next morning The download had disappeared from my computer system. Am so annoyed as was looking forward to using the menus. Could you possibly let me have another Forever grateful. Happy New Year.

  4. shula

    This is valuable information. Thanks!

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

You are welcome, Shula! I am so glad you find this information valuable. I know I do!

  5. El

I never drank much milk as a child & about the only time I have it as an adult is in hot chocolate … I walked a lot (still do) but had no interest in sports etc…. bone testing shows density appropriate for age 35 … I am nearly 70….
I do not take flu shots & so far have not had flu at all for several decades…. My friend who works in a medical office got the “shot” last year & got sick several times during flu season…Her boss ( a doctor) doesn’t take the shots….

  6. Carol

Thank you Vivian for all the wonderful and helpful information you have given us this year. I wish you and your family a very happy and healthy New Year!

  7. Mary

During this Christmas season I want to thank the Save our Bones Community and especially you Vivian for the gift of your research, your knowledge, your courage, your honesty and for sharing the life changing (enhancing) information you so freely give. Thank you for the opportunity to live a healthy life.

  8. Brenda

I had the same concern.Isn’t yogurt made from milk which would mean we should not eat it?? Please answer this for us!

    • CATRYNA

Find yourself raw milk if you can. Any of the commercial milks are from Holstein cows and that milk is very detrimental to the human gut. Milk from a Guernsey or Jersey herd would be preferable, but only if raw. All pasteurized products of any kind is not worth the money to buy and especially to consume.

  9. Rose

I also want to know whether organic milk is safer. Thank you.

  10. Margaret beidler

Is their any other milk that is good for you bones. Almond, or organic
    Milk?or any other alternative!

  11. Rev. Alice Gibson

    Vivian.
Thanks so very much for sharing this most needed and informative information about how the milk affects our bones. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis about eight years ago. After taking “Fosamax” a few months I had a near fatal side effect reaction. I have been so weak in my legs that I use a power wheel chair to get around. Since I have been on your program I am doing lots better and eating foods that save our bones. I thank God for your wisdom and pray that you will continue the great work that you are doing to empower others of “Save our Bones” alternatives. All the best to you in 2016 <3

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      Hi Alice,

What wonderful news that you are doing better! I am sorry to hear about the reaction and the weakness, but you are obviously a fighter, and you are giving your body what it needs to heal and recover. Keep it up!

  12. Gerri D.

I want to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a Happy and Prosperous New Year. All the information that you provide us with is like gold to us, because we cannot trust the medical field to give it to us straight. I’ve learned so much from this website and I share it whenever I can. God Bless You !
    Gerri D.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Thank you for your kind words, Gerri!

  13. sharon

What about drinking almond milk, soy milk or organic milk?

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Almond milk is a bone-healthy, alkalizing beverage, Sharon. I don’t recommend soy because the vast majority of soy crops are genetically modified and heavily sprayed with pesticides. While organic cow’s milk would be less likely to have pesticide contamination, it does not change the fact that it is an acidifying animal protein that damages bone.

  14. Renee Evans

Vivian, thanks for all you do to help us to defend and protect ourselves. It’s more appreciated than words can tell. Bless you, and may you continue as a watch(wo)man on the wall!

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      You are welcome, Renee!

  15. Marsha

Not sure of answer to the above but What about goats milk & goats milk yogurt as an alternative to cows milk products?

  16. Diana

In light of milk being so bad for our system, what about organic plain whole milk yogurt?

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      Hi Diana,

Organic, plain yogurt is great for the immune system and for bones, as I mentioned in the post:

“Given the importance of a functional immune system and bone health, it makes much more sense to naturally build the body’s immunity by eating probiotic-rich foods, such as organic plain yogurt, exercising regularly, and balancing your body’s pH with flu-fighting, nutrient-rich Foundation Foods.”

Plain yogurt is actually a Foundation Food on the Program. 🙂

      • Robin

Isn’t yogurt made from milk, though?

        • Marie S.

Vivian specifically says organic yogurt. Is organic milk safe?
