The 15 Minute Secret To Preventing Fractures - Save Our Bones

I’ve written quite a few times about mainstream medicine not seeing the forest for the trees. As it relates to osteoporosis, there might be a little light at the end of the tunnel, thanks to a study published in the British Medical Journal.

Lead Finnish researcher Dr. Jarvinen and team point to the reality that as it relates to fracture prevention, doctors are wrongfully concentrating on diagnosing osteoporosis while completely ignoring the patient’s risk of falling, especially in the elderly.

What’s more, the researchers make the stunning admission that BMD scores are inaccurate, and therefore, of little diagnostic value to prevent fractures. They further state that a large number of fractures could be avoided if the focus would be switched around. In other words…

The Key to Preventing Fractures is to Prevent Falls

They also criticize the current treatment protocol – from BMD testing to treating osteoporosis with drugs – stating that it fails miserably. And remember the nefarious Big Lie #2 I wrote about in ‘The Top 5 Osteoporosis Lies'? Incredibly, the researchers reveal the absolute risk reduction numbers, so that in order to prevent one hip fracture, no less than 577 women would have to take bisphosphonates for one full year. Hardly a solution, they assert, also bringing in numbers to show the staggering cost of such treatment.

And if the next part will sound familiar to you… well, it’s because I’ve been saying this for years. Dr. Jarvinen and researchers reveal the hushed-up statistic that 9 out of 10 hip fractures are caused by falling, and that for every 10 fractures, 8 happen to people WITHOUT osteoporosis.

Strength and Balance is What Matters Most

Their conclusion? That instead of diagnosing and medicating, doctors should identify those who are at risk of falling, help them reduce potential hazards at home, and recommend they practice strength and balance exercises on a regular basis.

Finally, some common sense! Strength – muscle AND bone strength – along with good balance are paramount to more than just preventing falls. They’re the key to living a productive and functional life; to feeling younger and to looking fit and trim.

Maintaining strength and balance give us the freedom to do anything we want so our lives will be more interesting and exciting, regardless of age. And to enjoy every day without the fear of fractures.

With this in mind I created the Densercise eBook System, an effective and quick way to strengthen the most important muscles and bones in your body. Thanks to the Density Training Method, critical bones such as hips, spine, shoulders, femur, wrists, fibula, tibia, and more are targeted for fracture prevention.

So what could be easier than to Densercise only three times a week for just 15 minutes to achieve the strength and balance you need to prevent falls?

      Hello Vivian.
Is it possible to buy your Densercise book but not the video as I sometimes have problems with downloading on my tablet.

      • Customer Support

        Hi Lynda,
The Densercise Epidensity Training System consists of a manual (delivered digitally to your inbox as a PDF file), and in the videos Vivian briefly demonstrates each move for clarification purposes. The manual is the main reference – and it’s clearly illustrated and explained. 🙂

Suzanne, Sorbitol and Aspartame are in most of the chewing gums you find in a store. You have shop at a nutritional store to find healthy gum.
If you have a medicare advantage card (senior citizens), you should be able to get in free at certain spas. “Never Too Late” and the “Silver Sneakers” classes are great for the entire body at our age It is also a fun outing and socially enjoyable. It is better for me to do the group than stay home and dicipline myself with a video tape or machines.

  3. Nadine Brooks

  9. Barbara Hammond

    Hello Vivian,
I am going to order your program, now. I have a question.
My most recent Dexa Scan revealed that that I had a slight increase in bone mass in the spine. However, in th Hip there was a significant decrease
in bone mass. My Doctor said that it is where the leg and the hip join.
She would like me to do the once a yr. Reclast injections. I really am
resistent to doing so. Yet, I am concerned about my leg and hip.
Do you have exercises to strengthen this particular. So far, I think you
    have only addressed the spine.
    Thank You,
    Barbara

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Hi Barbara – the Densercise System contains exercises for every part of your body.

  11. Cecile Meichtry

I am 85 years old and have sustained several compression fractures, mainly in the thoracic spine. Because of pain I underwent kyphoplasty last July to cement three vertebrea in the thoracic area. Unfortunately, the pain has not subsided. My activities are now limited. My pain disappears if I lie down or do nothing all day. My life is on hold, My doctor is upset with me for not taking the osteoporosis drugs. I take a lot of Calcium and Vitamin D, but am limited to the amount of exercise I can do. I have had two sessions of physical therapy which have helped somewhat, but am at a loss as to what else I can safely do without sustaining another fracture. My balance is somewhat poor and I walk guardedly for fear of falling.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

I hope that your physical therapist is able to help you get moving again, Cecile.

  12. Caroline Cottom & Thom Cronkhite

I’ve just ordered the Densercize program, but there was no place to give an address for a place to ship the manual!

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Hi Caroline, the Densercise manual and video collection is a digital download. You have instant access to it after you place the order. Warm regards, Vivian.

  13. Suzanne

Hi Vivian, Thanks for all your very informative information. I down loaded your book several years ago, but have found your emails wonderful reminders of how to live a healthy lifestyle. I teach yoga and remind my participants that balance is something we lose as we get older and we need to work on it. Working on mine has saved me many times as I occasionally seem to trip over nothing. I’ve been an exercise instructor for over 15 years so was shocked when I was told I had Osteopenia. After adding a lot of dairy to my diet I found my bone scan did not improve. When my medical advisor wanted to put me on a drug for it I turned to the internet. I was very thankful to find your website. I have made many changes to my eating habits thanks to you. I find many of your suggestions are repeated by other health sources promoting healthy lifestyles. I recently realized my habit of chewing gum probably isn’t that good for me. I searched your website for your comments on it, but could not find any. I wonder if that wouldn’t be a good topic for you to address at sometime? Thanks for all your research and dedication in improving the health of others.

  14. Faye

    Hello Vivian
Your emails are much appreciated. I took myself off Fosamax much to my Dr’s disgust. I would love to purchase a CD of Densercise as my computer doesn’t handle the videos that come via email. If you have hard copies, I would really like one and am happy to pay for the shipping.
Keep up the wonderful work you are doing.

  15. Frederick J. HIll

    Vivian,
I have been a subscriber in the save our bones program for the past few years and am still very impressed with the information that you publish. I initially joined because osteoporosis runs in my wife’s family
and we wish to do all that is possible to protect her from that. She will be 65 and retiring in the near future, and we are hoping to be able to enjoy retired life without osteoporosis.
I am quite interested in the Densercise program, but did not see how much it costs. I want to get it for my wife (I’m sure that I will use it too), but I want to send a check, and do not know the amount to send.
    Keep up the good work.
    Thanks,

    F. H.

    • Customer Support

      Hi Frederick,

The Densercise eBook program is $29.95. You’ll get instant access to it after we receive your check.

You can get more details on the Densercise page.

  16. James Morley

Thank you. I have good bones, but turning a corner in my house during moving split my head open on a shelf, went down on my side, on to a concrete floor and hey presto, a broken hip. At the time I was lucky, I was living in France and the repair took place twenty four hours and fifteem minutes after the fall. The French medical authorities were far more concerned as to why I had fallen rather than the state of my bones.
Two years before I had tripped over a large metal stud in the floor, part of the locking device for shutters. Again the orthopaedic questions were aimed as to the reason for my fall, not the state of my bones. I do of course have your book.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Hi James, I’m glad you’ve recovered! Stay on the Program and let us know how you’re doing 🙂

  17. Suzy

Vivian, is there a link where I could find the BMJ article? I’d love to be able to share it with my doctor!!
Thanks for your continued good work (ahead of the curve!) on bone health!

  18. friday oboh

Vivian, thanks for the information on 15 minutes secret to preventing fractures but sorry, I am financially incapable to securing my Densercise System Order.

  19. Carol

Vivian, I totally agree with you that balance, nutrition and exercise are critical for osteoporosis. I did purchase Densercise and think the exercises are really goo. My only concern is that my understanding is that with severe osteoporosis (which is my diagnosis), my hip will break and cause the fall. Is there truth to this statement?

  20. Celestina Marie

Always great info. Thank you so much.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      You’re welcome, Celestina!

  21. connie

I am doing the balance exercises by Mike Ross. You can find out more here. https://www.betterbalancenow.com

  22. Julie

One of the best ways to improve your balance is to take up Tai Chi. Very gentle, but it gives you a thorough workout.

    • Suzann

I agree. I started Tai Chi last May and it has really helped my balance and strength.

I am fused due to idiopathic scolosis from T4 to L4 and am due to have another surgery to complete the fusion from L 5 to S1. Would this program be appropriate and SAFE for me? This surgery will definitely limit my flexability. Please advise. Thank you.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Densercise involves simple moves to strengthen muscles and increase bone density. However, in your case, I recommend you consult with your doctor or surgeon. You can get Densercise, and if you can’t do certain moves, simply request a full refund within 60 days. 🙂

  25. Lynda

This article relates so well to information which can be found on http://www.bonesforlife.com The Bones For Life program is based on the Feldenkrais method and is designed to improve bone strengh, posture and balance.
I attended an introductory workshop last year and was very impressed. I am going to attend a two day workshop in June here in the U.K. … links can be found on the above web site.

  26. Rita Black

Thank you Vivian for using your dedicated research methods on our behalf.
We can now boast that our mentor is, as usual, well “AHEAD OF THE POSSE”.
My daughter writes frequently in the BMJ opinion column. I must prompt her to use that facility to make your work more widely recognised on this side of the pond. Prescription drugs are a massive drain on the limited NHS budget.

  27. Kay Barnard

Hooray for some commmon sense at last. I underwent a bone scan two years ago after slipping heavily on black ice while scrambling on rocks and breaking my radius. I have a Ph.D. in biochemistry and connective tissue was my area of specialism, so am aware of how the recommenmded drugs work. The doctors now treat me as mad as I refused to take their recommendations.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Hooray for your 100% sanity, Kay!!

  28. Feona

Hi Vivian – this information was widely picked up by UK bloggers when it was reported a short while ago. When I read it I thought ‘But Vivian’s talked about this ages ago!’, but, as usual, it had to come from the orthodox medical lot before anyway took notice nationally.

Don’t you get thoroughly frustrated by it all sometimes??

    Thanks for being there.

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Hi Feona, I’m a “the cup is half full” type of person. So it makes me happy to see every little sign showing that at least some doctors are waking up to the truth. Let’s stay positive and remember a famous author’s quote:
“Facts don’t cease to exist because they’re ignored.”

  29. Valerie

Balance can be improved if one wears toe separators at night. The soft ‘rubber’ ones sold to separate your toes when applying nail varnish. This makes sense to me what do you think?

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Valerie, toe separators are good, especially if you’re developing a bunion. But more is needed to improve balance… Thanks for the tip!
