I would like to know the difference between TrueOsteo and NewChapter Bone Strength take care.

Which one is better and why?

Bone Strength has TargetCal™ and organic calcium from algae, magnesium, D3, and K2 complex.

TrueOsteo has AlgaCal™ and some vitamins (magnesium, K2, D3, among others, but we do not know the amount nor which ones if we cannot read the label.

In all cases, what I would like to know is if we are taking too high of a concentration of vitamins if we take either TrueOsteo or Bone Strength plus every day multivitamins. Are we overdoing it?

If we have to take different vitamins so as not to double up the dosage but have all we need for a day, which vitamin product do you recommend?

  2. Donna

Please review information about Stronium. My doctor wants to know about your research regarding it. I can’t find it on your website and find nothing about it in your Save Our Bones manual. Thanks

  3. Giovanna

    Dear Vivian
thank you so much for all the precious information you send us. I am following your program and I have started to take AlgaeCal that you had suggested in the past. I see that now you suggest TrueOsteo and I would like to know which one is better? I have a bone scan to do in June and I want to take the best possible option to grow bone and bone density as my doctor was very angry with me and after the next bone scan she insists that natural cures are not good and I must take the meds or my spine will break. Please help! Shall I continue with AlgaeCal and add the Strontium Boost or shall I start with Trueosteo? Many many thanks, you are an inspiration to us all!
    Best regards
    Giovanna

I imagine there are many of us who would like more information on the medications for low thyroid and what those medicines are doing to our bones. I just recently became aware that this could be a problem – I have been taking one or another of these medicines for more than 25 years.

  5. NADIA

  7. Nancy Lundgren

I enjoy long, relaxing baths. Your comments about our bodies absorbing chlorine concern me. Are you recommending that we eliminate baths and take quick showers?

    • LynnCS

I have a filter on my kitchen faucet and understand there are good filters for the bathroom too. I think that is the way to go for me. Cheapest option for now. Lynn

  8. Virginia

Anyone using the Save Our Bones program also have Celiac Disease? I am having a problem following due to this disease. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  9. Jollitee

Hi,four years ago Iwas told I have osteoporosis and was given three of the leading osteo treatment consecutively after a bab experience with each one. Istop taking all of them, and was taking a osteo supplement which turned out to be good but I could no longer afford it.One month ago my doc told me I have severe osteoporosis and priscribe medication. One month’s supply for $135.00,it is still at the pharmacy, cause even with INS still cant pay for it. Thats when i started to look for another way. I NEED IT FAST,Ican feel pain in my lower back.Am glad to know there is, a way,
Please I would appreciate your help.

  10. Georgina Renaux

Thank yu vivian for all the valuable information you give us. God bless you abundantly.

  11. Karen

I’ve just been prescribed Miacalcin nasal spray. Has anyone else taken this? What has been your experience. My doctor knows I refuse to take actonel or fosamax. With diet and exercise, I did manage to increase the bone density of my spine but, according to my last Dexa score, my hip bone density decreased a small amount.

    • Diana

Breakfasts are a sinch.I eat this exact breakfast even brofee I was Vegetarian2 weetbix + Banana on top (weetbix are fortified with iron, zinc, folate)w/ soymilk (Im lactose intolerant, but the soy milk is fortified with calcium and vitamin D)1/2 a piece of whole grain toast with almond butter (protien!, and peanut butter is fine too)And wash it down with a small glass of apple and mango juice (no added sugar) It sounds complicated, but man I love my breakfast

    • Jan

My rheumy prescribed Miacalcin and I’ve been using it for quite a while. When I saw him a couple of days ago, he told me it was “basically worthless” and I needed either the Reclast or Boniva IV’s. Don’t think so.

Anyway, never had a bad reaction from the Miacalcin.

    • Jollitee

I took that nasal spray before and stopped because I started to have pain in my nose and my ear.

      • Shelley

My former primary care physician insisted I take something for osteoporosis (I’d said NO WAY when she wanted me to take bisphosphontaes) So I relented and did the Miacalcin. Within 3 days I developed a horrific sinus infection. I stopped immediately. I cannot believe that ANY so-called bone bulding drugs can possibly be good…

  12. Mary Kay Rudeen

Hi Vivian, one question about New Chapter Bone Strength. It says 3 tablets but only lists 770mg of calcium for that amount. Should I take 4 to get about 1,000 mg? Also I noticed the magnesium is only 58 mg. Is that enough? Thought it should be higher. Am 61 and in the severe osteoporosis category. Want to make sure that these are alright before I open the box. Thanks!!

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      Hi Mary Kay,

If you follow, the Osteoporosis Reversal Program, you’ll stop the underlying cause of calcium loss and won’t need to take as much supplemental calcium. Please read the section “How Much Do You Need” in The Ultimate Calcium Guide. The 770 mg in Bone Strength should be fine. You might want to take some additional magnesium, however.

  13. Carole

I am so disappointed that I can’t download this guide that I want so badly. I even installed the Adobe.com but I can’t open it. Please can you send it a different way?
Thank you so much. I appreciate everything you do for us, Vivian.
    Carole

  14. Gerri D.

I bought the New Chapter Bone Strength that you suggested and I am having the worst gas that I have ever experienced. I cannot take it any longer. Has anyone had this experience? I am now looking for another organic calcium. If nothing else agrees with me I am going back to E-Zorb.I had no problem with that. Thanks Vivian Gerri D.

I could not find the calcium from algae. GNC had one from fossilized coral from above the Okinawan Sea. Is this OK?

  17. Nu Ly

    Hi! Vivian.

Thank you so much for free download on article
“Altimate Calcium Guide”. You are always remind
and educating us, this is indeed your big gift
    for us.

  18. Francie Ewing

Vivian: Thank you so much for your efforts to “Save our Bones” and this free download article on calcium. Just today my oncologist recommended a calcium/Vitamin D supplement to include in my health regimen. I didn’t want to get just any calcium supplement. Thanks to you for educating us. You are a God-send.

    • Alamin

Thanks for writing the last cpuloe of posts on the dairy industry. It’s scary to think how deep they have sunk their claws in schools across our country and the U.S. Ken, a good book to read is The China Study by Dr. T. Colin Campbell. It details the connection between nutrition and heart disease, diabetes and cancer. It looks into detail the various myths of the dairy industry, including osteoporosis.

  19. Naomi

Hi Vivian, I’ve purchased your book and have been following the PH balanced diet you recommend for the last 2 years. I’m also taking this supplement that claims to contain elemental calcium. Could you please advise if this is indeed a supplement you would recommend? https://www.pinnaclelabs.com/skeletal/Osteocal.htm
    Thanks! Naomi.

  20. FATIMA

I am from India,am in my late 50s and a hypo thyroid patient. I get a lot of joint and muscle aches. What supplements should I take for relief?

  21. Louise

I’ve been following your program with very good results. Twice a day I take a calcium tablet with 333.33 mg calcium (oyster shell,) 166.67 mg magnesium and 133.33 vitamin D. Is the oyster shell calcium okay? I can’t find calcium from algae anywhere. Thank you!

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      Hi Louise,

The calcium that comes from oyster shells is inorganic. If you can’t find organic, plant-based calcium, you might want to try one of the many amino acid chelates listed in the calcium chart.

  22. Hope

I have been using Mega Food’s 100% whole food calcium supplement,”Bone” along with their cal/mag/pot formula.

  23. Colleen V

    Hi Vivienne
Just wondering what your thoughts are on the Canadian study using nitroglycerin cream to reverse bone loss?

  24. Barbara

    Vivian,
I was on fosamax for 10yrs and took myself off it 8 months ago, july of 2010 I sustained spontaneous bilateral L5 pedicle fractures and then Dec2010 again but at L4 bilaterally. Dr. recommends I get back on fosamax, but I was having very bad muscular pain. Fractures from the summer are not healing well. I take 2000 Vit D, calcium 500mg and Mag complex. Waiting to get another bone density done. I had a stage 4 leiomyosarcoma in pelvis 10yrs ago and had experimental chemo and Lt hemipelvectomy, so biomechanics of gait is altered.Spondylolisthesis, bulging disc disease and other health issues, chronic back pain which is now worse with fractures. I am 56yrs. Wrote to you before and would appreciate some suggestions. Go to physio, massage therapy and do my own ex. program including weights.

  25. LESLIE

    Hi! Vivian,

I’ve Been Taking The COSTCO Brand Joint Tablets. The “Glucosamine HCI 1500mg With MSM 1500mg. Are They Any Good? Or Are They Doing More Harm Than Good?
I Want To Thank You For All Your Research And Help You Give Us With Your E-Mails.

    LOVE, MS. L.

    • ESTELLE OGUS

GLUCOSAMINE SULPHATE IS MORE EFFECTIVE THAN THE HCL FORM. ALSO, PLEASE READ A PAPERBACK BOOK, CALLED “THE ARTHRITIS CURE” LATEST EDITION. BY DR THEODOSAKIS MD. HE SAYS THE REASON WHY MOST GLUCOSAMINE ETC JOINT FORMULAS DONT WORK, INCLUDING SOME WELL KNOWN BRANDS LIKE TWINLAB AND SOLGAR ETC, IS BECAUSE THEY FOUND THAT THEY HAVE LESS NUTRIENTS IN THEM THAN WHATS ON THE LABEL, SO WE DONT GET ENOUGH TO HELP ARTHRITIS. ALSO HE HAS ANOTHER SUPPLEMENT THAT HE ADDS TO HIS JOINT FORMULA, WHICH HE CLAIMS THE SYNERGISTIC FORMULA CAN REGENERATE JOINT CARTILAGE AND MAKE SURGERY UNNECESSARY….UNLESS ITS TOO FAR GONE, IS MY GUESS. GET THE BOOK AND READ IT IF YOU HAVE ARTHRITIS, ESPECIALLY O.A. I’M NOT SURE IF HE ADDRESSES RHEUMATOID ARTH. GO TO DRTHEO.COM AND FIND OUT. HE SELLS A JOINT FORMULA THAT HE SAYS CAN REGENERATE CARTILAGE AND CURE ARTHRITIS. DONT KNOW HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO FIND OUT IF ITS WORKING. LET US KNOW WHAT YOU FIND OUT PLEASE. ESTELLE

  26. Gina Cresse

I recently read a newsletter from Dr. Al Sears where he stated “A review done by the British Medical Journal carefully analyzed 11 different calcium supplementation studies. The BMJ found that taking more than 500 mg a day increased heart attacks by 31 percent.” I have osteoporosis and have been taking Calcium Citrate/Malate (more than 500 mg/day). Should I be concerned?

  27. Monica

After the osteopenia DX 5 years ago and a history of kidney stones I began seeking answers. After going to an endocrinologist and nephrologist and having 3x the normal amount of calcium in my urine I was perscribed HCTZ,a calcium channel blocker and slow K. This with exercise, calcium, vit D and magnesium has led to improved bone density. I refused the fosomax etc. after reading your website and doing my research. Thank you

  28. Nancy

I have been searching on line for the calcium products that are recommended. Most are very expensive but I did find this, what do you think of it? 2 tablets contain:

    Chelated Calcium Glycinate 360 mg
Vitamin D USP as cholecalciferol 100 iu
90 mg of a “proprietary blend” of ginger root, piper longum and piper nigrum

    Thank you for your help.

    • MJ

I would love to know what calcium supplement others are taking that they feel good about. I am currently taking a liquid supplement that is calcium citrate and mag. It looks like from other posts that it might not be the best supplement to be taking.

      • ESTELLE OGUS

CALCIUM AND MAGNESIUM ARE NOT ENOUGH. YOU NEED VIT D3 AND SEVERAL OTHER NUTRIENTSIN THE FORMULA OR SEPARATELY. YOU’LL FIND THEM BY READING ONE OF MY OTHER REPLIES FURTHER BACK. GOOD LUCK. YOU NEED A BETTER FORMULA WITH SEVERAL OTHER NUTRIENTS. AND DOWNLOAD VIVIAN’S BLOG ON CALCIUM. FIND THE LINK IN THIS FORUM, FURTHER BACK.
        ESTELLE

  29. martha martinez

Bravo Vivian, this is exactly what I been waiting for re, Calcium. Now I have to try finding what you recommend. Hopefully Whole Foods, will have an acceptable brand. If not, will check Puritan’s Pride, Vitacost. etc. Thank you again. Marthazen

    • ESTELLE OGUS

THERE ARE MAIL ORDER PLACES ON THE WEB THAT GIVE YOU BETTER PRICES THAN WHOLE FOODS. CHECK ONE OF MY OTHER REPLIES IN THIS FORUM, FURTHER BACK FOR NAMES OF MAIL ORDER SUPPLEMENT BUSINESSES . GOOD LUCK, ESTELLE

  30. Florence Magallon

I’m using Pro Bono for my bone loss. What do you think of it?

  31. Heather

I can’t download this either. When I click to try Internet Explorer says thee is a problem and closes down. Any other way I can read it?

    • ESTELLE OGUS

TRY DOWNLOADING GOOGLE CHROME. ITS BETTER THAN INTERNET EXPLORER, IF YOU HAVE YOUR OWN COMPUTER, IF YOU DONT USE A PUBLIC COMPUTER. AM NOT SURE HOW, BUT ASK SOMEBODY.

  32. Marjorie

Thank you so much for the research you do and help us all. God bless you.

I have been following your articles and must say have become a lot wiser in combining foods for maximum absorption of calcium. My husband and I (57) are diabetics for 15 years and have osteoporosis. Now we take foods in the right combination. I hope we will improve. Can we take egg shells soaked overnight in lemon juice as a calcium substitute?

There are a lot of us thanking God for you.

    Regards
    Marjorie

    • Luc Chene

Yes you can, this will add some other minerals in addition to calcium. I did this to try, but I figured that it is necessary to be careful of lead or other harmful metals contaminating the shell. So instead I relied for some time on calcium citrate powder from Now food (bought at iHerb.com for very little money) that I mix in soups or smoothies or milk shakes.

      • ESTELLE OGUS

BUT CALCIUM ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH. YO NEED A COMPREHENSIVE FORMULA. READ MORE OF MY REPLIES ABOVE. ESTELLE

  33. Jan

I do no have Adobe on iPhone, is there another way to get your valuable information on you website. Help make it easy. Osteoporosis is an epidemic. YOU are our mentor for learning. Thank you!

    • MarkP

The iBooks app from Apple can be used on the iPhone to read books in PDF format.

    • Customer Support

Hi Jan (and Iris and anyone else who’s having trouble downloading),

The Ultimate Calcium Guide is a PDF file. You don’t need to have Flash installed (as Kathy suggested), but you do need to have a PDF reader, which is already installed on most computers. If it’s not installed on yours, just go to this site to download a free PDF reader: https://get.adobe.com/reader/.

If you’re still having problems, please contact customer support. Sending questions having to do with downloads, orders, and similar issues directly to customer support will enable us to provide the individual attention you deserve.

To contact customer support, just send an email to info@saveourbones.com or click the big yellow Customer Support link at the top of any of our web pages (there’s a little picture of a life preserver next to it). Using either of those methods, your question/issue will go directly to customer support where we can assist you.

  34. Iris Richards

For some unknown reason, I could not download the unlimate calciun report. Is there some other way for me to get it. Also, what are your feelings on alkaline ph water for osteoporsis? Thanks, Iris

    • ESTELLE OGUS

SEE ONE OF THE REPLIES ABOVE. A PDF READER IS NEEDED.

  35. Allison

Your information on Calcium is great, you covered all bases!! Thanks again. 🙂

  36. Kathy D

Your altimate calcium guide why don’t you just post it on your website like you
do your other articles lots of us do not have Adobe Flash Players. I hate missing your article on the calcium guide.
    Kathy D

  37. Mary Kay Rudeen

Vivian, the Health food store people recommended taking Biosil, a mineral, with the calcium. Is this good? Thank you, Mary Kay

    • Luc Chene

Yes this is organic silicium and very useful for not only bone formation but also for hair and nails. As a biochemist, I am using it.

      • LynnCS

Just want to ask if that is the same as silica/silicon? Is that a brand, or the name of the chemical? I am taking Organo living silica. If that is the same, I’m good. Also I am eating/drinking Raw Vegan which includes a lot of high silica vegis in smoothies and juices. Just wondering if you have a sense that I am getting enough. Still don’t know about the K2 issue, so if you know where I can get that in the natural world, let me know.

        • ESTELLE OGUS

LIFEEXTENSION.COM SELLS “SUPER K” WITH KI + K2. ASK THEM ABOUT POSSIBLE CONTRAINDICATIONS IF YOU TAKE BLOOD THINNERS OR ARE PRONE TO TOO MUCH CLOTTING.

      • Mary Kay Rudeen

        Thanks!

  38. Ann

    Thank you!!!!!

  39. Leslie Devol

I like many women can relate to your story and what you say, as I am a small framed small boned 56 yr old women…who was basically leveled in 2007 with the osteoporosis diagnosis….the doctor told me to instantly start boniva, etc. or better yet for me reclast through the veins….then I did my research and wow ..I asked the doctor if he would give his mother that stuff and he never answered me…..it is poison according to what you read and the side effects or even more nasty…..and Merck sounds like they are prepared for the law suits….and the big one is …I am sure I have some bone loss but they compared my body like they do to that of a normal sized boned young adult…daaaa…..I just went to the doctor the other day because my daughter was diagnosed with osteopenia at age 34…built like me…and she is losing calcium through the urine….so my question is this…since the drugs stop the osteoclast process and then it just builds up to look like strong bone in the body…why can’t they really figure out why the osteoclast and osteoblast system is not always working right….I do strength training, eat right, walk,run….6 hours a week just got a weighted vest to help strengthen the spine and wrist weights..just trying to do it naturally and working on the pH….but the whole thing is very upsetting and the doctor talked to me like I would crumble to the ground at any minute and die if I didn’t do what he said….crazy…..

    • Kathryn

If calcium is being excreted in urine you might check your PH and you may find you are so acidic that your body is using the calcium to alkalize the body. That is why it is in your urine.

    • Luc Chene

If I lived near this doctor I would go to this clinic. This doctor has written the most excellent book on osteoporosis that he himself had very badly and at a rather early age.(https://mccormickdc.com/)

  40. Suzann

Thank you, Vivian, for your research and information. What about calcium with MCHC? I have read research that says MCHC helps the body abosorb calcium more efficiently. Is calcium with MCHC a good source?

    Suzann

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

      Hi Suzann,

As Lena correctly states, MCHC is another abbreviation for Microcrystalline Calcium Hydroxyapatite, and I’ve edited the calcium chart to reflect this. Thanks for pointing this out! 🙂

    • Lena Larsen

Suzann, I think that MCHA (that Vivian talk about in her Calcium guide)and MCHC are the same? When I googled MCHC it said Microcrystalline Calcium Hydroxyapatite Compound.
PLEASE VIVIAN can you clarfy if this is correct?
Thank you very much Vivian for this guide!
