A Friend So Strong

— By Vivian Goldschmidt —

Crawling shyly down the hall,
Reaching high to grab a toy…
Like a friend who cares and shares,
Your bones were there for you.

Jumping rope and playing hopscotch
Climbing hills and running wild…
Like a loyal trusted partner,
Your bones were there for you.

Dancing freely under the stars,
Rushing up and down the stairs…
Like a faithful armored knight,
Your bones were there for you.

Holding baby in your arms,
Pacing back and forth your house…
Like a generous helping hand,
Your bones were there for you.

Could it be that you forgot
That bones need caring too?
That much like friends, it's all about
“You give me and I give you.”

This story of friendship rings so true,
Because there comes a time…
When nurturing turns into a road,
For two to tread as one.

And now, my friend, it's in your hands,
To give your wondrous bones…
The strength and drive they've given you
Throughout your blessed life.

So step with confidence and pride,
Stand tall, gaze high and smile…
And know you'll always have inside
A loving friend so strong.
