Did you know that in Medieval England parents would tie rabbits’ feet around their babies’ necks to ward off illness? Doctors would also spit on wounds because saliva was believed to have healing properties.
Indeed, history is replete with unfounded health beliefs, and to everyone’s detriment, the milk myth is among the most tenacious.
Milk is much more than just a drink; it’s a cultural phenomenon that can be traced back thousands of years. And still today, the milk myth resonates loud and clear: in 2001, the average American child consumed 104 quarts of cow’s milk.
Milk depletes the calcium from your bones
The milk myth has spread around the world based on the flawed belief that this protein and calcium-rich drink is essential to support good overall health and bone health in particular at any age. It is easy to understand that the confusion about milk’s imaginary benefits stems from the fact that it contains calcium – around 300 mg per cup.
But many scientific studies have shown an assortment of detrimental health effects directly linked to milk consumption. And the most surprising link is that not only do we barely absorb the calcium in cow’s milk (especially if pasteurized), but to make matters worse, it actually increases calcium loss from the bones. What an irony this is!
Here’s how it happens. Like all animal protein, milk acidifies the body pH which in turn triggers a biological correction. You see, calcium is an excellent acid neutralizer and the biggest storage of calcium in the body is – you guessed it… in the bones. So the very same calcium that our bones need to stay strong is utilized to neutralize the acidifying effect of milk. Once calcium is pulled out of the bones, it leaves the body via the urine, so that the surprising net result after this is an actual calcium deficit.
Knowing this, you’ll understand why statistics show that countries with the lowest consumption of dairy products also have the lowest fracture incidence in their population (there’s more on this later).
But the sad truth is that most mainstream health practitioners ignore these proven facts. I know it firsthand because when I was diagnosed with osteoporosis, my doctor recommended that I drink lots of milk in addition to taking Fosamax.
Fortunately, I did neither, because I knew that…
Cow’s milk is custom-designed for calves
Thanks to our creative ingenuity and perhaps related to our ancient survival needs, we adopted the dubious habit of drinking another species’ milk. Nobody can dispute that cow’s milk is an excellent food source for calves. Weighing around 100 pounds at birth, a calf typically gains approximately eight times its weight by the time it is weaned. But unlike humans, once calves are weaned, they never drink milk again. And the same applies to every mammalian species on this planet.
Also, each mammalian species has its own “designer” milk, and cow’s milk is no exception. For example, cow’s milk contains on average three times the amount of protein than human milk which creates metabolic disturbances in humans that have detrimental bone health consequences.
It’s important to bear in mind that mother’s milk is excellent nourishment for human babies, but its composition is very different from cow’s milk.
Scientific studies show that milk increases fracture risk
Many scientific studies contradict the conventional wisdom that milk and dairy consumption help reduce osteoporotic fractures. Surprisingly, studies demonstrating that milk and dairy products actually fail to protect bones from fractures outnumber studies that prove otherwise. Even drinking milk from a young age does not protect against future fracture risk but actually increases it. Shattering the “savings account” calcium theory, Cumming and Klineberg report their study findings as follows:
“Consumption of dairy products, particularly at age 20 years, was associated with an increased risk of hip fracture in old age. (“Case-Control Study of Risk Factors for Hip Fractures in the Elderly”. American Journal of Epidemiology. Vol. 139, No. 5, 1994).1
And the 12 year long Harvard Nurses’ Health Study found that those who consumed the most calcium from dairy foods broke more bones than those who rarely drank milk. This is a broad study based on 77,761 women aged 34 through 59 years of age.
In the authors’ own words:
“These data do not support the hypothesis that higher consumption of milk or other food sources of calcium by adult women protects against hip or forearm fractures.” (Source: Feskanich D, Willett WC, Stampfer MJ, Colditz GA. Milk, dietary calcium, and bone fractures in women: a 12-year prospective study. American Journal of Public Health. 1997).2
Shocking statistics ignored by mainstream medicine
In the Osteoporosis Reversal Program one of the topics I discuss is the complete disregard of scientific evidence that discredits milk and dairy products as the best source of calcium.
One exception is Amy Lanou Ph.D., nutrition director for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, D.C., who states that:
“The countries with the highest rates of osteoporosis are the ones where people drink the most milk and have the most calcium in their diets. The connection between calcium consumption and bone health is actually very weak, and the connection between dairy consumption and bone health is almost nonexistent.”
Surprised? You shouldn’t be, because as I mentioned earlier in this article…
Milk is an acidifying animal protein
Like any other animal derived protein-rich food, milk has a positive potential renal acid load (PRAL) which triggers a protective biological reaction to neutralize all the damaging acidic protein before it reaches the kidneys.
The body is designed for survival, so it sacrifices bone density to protect the kidneys and urinary tract because the latter are essential to survival. And the most readily available source of acid neutralizer is in the bones. So even though milk contains calcium, it ends up sapping your bones of that crucial mineral. But that’s not all because…
Today’s milk is a processed food
Until the end of the 19th century in Europe and the beginning of the 20th century in the US, milk was consumed unpasteurized or raw. Later on, homogenization became the industry’s standard. These processes further alter milk’s chemistry and actually increase its detrimental acidifying effects.
Raw milk advocates claim that if cow’s milk is left “as is” it is a healthy and wholesome drink. It is true that raw milk is less acidifying than processed milk and that pasteurization and homogenization may cause a long list of digestive and other health problems, but I still don’t recommend drinking any kind of cow’s milk.
Nowadays, milking cows are given antibiotics and most are also injected with a genetically engineered form of bovine growth hormone (rBGH). A man-made or synthetic hormone used to artificially increase milk production, rBGH also increases blood levels of the insulin-growth factor 1 (IGF-1) in those who drink it. And higher levels of IGF-1 are linked to several cancers.
This should not be ignored, especially in view of recent information by Samuel Epstein, MD, Professor of Environmental Medicine at the University of Illinois School of Public Health, and Chairman of the Cancer Prevention Coalition. In a press release titled “Monsanto’s Hormonal Milk Poses Serious Risks of Breast Cancer, Besides Other Cancers” (June 21, 1998) Dr. Epstein concludes that:
“Drinking rBGH milk would thus be expected to significantly increase IGF-1 blood levels and consequently to increase risks of developing breast cancer and promoting its invasiveness.”
Even though organic milk is from cows that are not given antibiotics or rBHG, if you truly care about your bone health and your overall health, you should…
Avoid drinking cow’s milk
As I explain in the Osteoporosis Reversal Program and contrary to mainstream recommendations, drinking milk and eating lots of dairy products are not the answer to reversing osteoporosis. And while in the Osteoporosis Reversal Program no food is completely off limits, I strongly recommend that you explore the different milk substitute options that I will list for you here.
But first, I’d like to clarify that unsweetened fermented or cultured dairy products such as yogurt, kefir, and sour cream are acid neutral. Yogurt in particular is chock-full of beneficial qualities. As is the case with milk, organic yogurt does not have rBGH, but even several of the most well-known yogurt brands have stopped using the bovine growth hormone (rBGH). You should call your favorite yogurt company to confirm. One more clarification: when I say unsweetened I mean without sugar or any artificial sweetener. However, you can add honey or stevia, a zero calorie plant-derived sweetener that is delicious and alkalizing as well. I like to carry around stevia packets in my purse so that I’m always able to sweeten food or drinks when I’m on the go.
The best milk substitutes
My favorite milk substitute is unsweetened almond milk, not only because it is alkalizing (as almonds are), but also because it’s delicious and tastes very similar to milk. I even cook with it!
If almond milk is hard to get, you can also try rice or soy milk. I strongly suggest consuming only organic soy milk to insure it’s not made with genetically modified soy. There is also some controversy about unfermented soy products, so try to use it in moderation.
What Else Haven’t They Told You?
What else have you been told about bone health by your doctor or other “experts” that is flat out wrong? What other “facts” (like drinking milk does a body good) are keeping you from optimal health?
Myths like these are a big reason I created the Osteoporosis Reversal Program. To give you the straight scoop on how to deal with osteoporosis the natural way.
I can help you take control of your future.

You all so dum. Milk makes everyone so happy and big and boomboom. i wish everyone lactate so i nipple suck everyone. hairy nipps make best milk all day me love much. lick them long time. long nipple is best. milk is best
Hairy cow nipple milk make me boom boom
Morons, why should we be drinking from other species? Do cow drink from goats?! NO!!! Ofc not. so shut up.
Get lost troll.
Why have they been adding aspartame to the milk aspartame has been linked to causing depression and several other disabilities???
You wrong. Nipple milk makes strong you good. Aspertame is good for me and my bones. You stupid
cotton headed niggy muggins
Is there no moderator on this website for trolls?
There’s nothing to be moderated here because we are busting out the truth. Sucking nipple of cow relieves your queef pain and make you big boom boom. Get it right, woman.
Nipple do me real good u all so dum
Hey everyone,
This article is completely false. I sucked on nipple of cow 42 times as boy, and I love it and im healthy very. Never break bones and i play many sports and run a lot. I don’t understand why you say it bad. Hairy cow nipple milk very good for me and everyone to get strong and big. Love milk and it very good.
Shut up, totally not true. Wait till you get cancer than lets see who is talking.
Don’t feed the trolls.
This was a great read, really. But where are your sources page? How did you get all this information? Especially about the study that had been done?
I really enjoyed the article. If you have ever watched cowpirisy you might understand why the push for milk exists. The industry is protected by government. It’s cow growth juice. Cows milk turns a 100lb calf into a 2000lb cow very quickly. So imagine the effect on the human body from those natural hormones.
I was curious about goats milk. We have gotten it from an Amish farm. Would that be a considerable substatute??
No it is still as bad. The only reason why cows are used for milk is because they produce such a high amount of it, so therefore more money. Milk from any animal other than your mother is in natural and not for you. Humans are not to drink another species Breast milk.
I agree. I also think humans are best to not eat another species meat. Only organic human meat for a healthy body.
Hi. This is fascinating stuff. I’ve obviously been lucky. I’m now 60 and have always drunk lots of tea with cows milk in (probably 8-9 cups a day). I use cow milk for making porridge, and on cereals too (I have porridge for breakfast most days). So far my only bone ‘problem’ has been a fracture in my foot about 30 years ago – due to a 3/4 ton mare standing smack on it, something that would no doubt cause damage to most people. Even so I’d like to reduce even if not totally eradicate my use of cow milk. I love goat milk but my only source of that would be from a shop. It’s also much more expensive than cow milk, and being semi-retired I live on a limited budget. I’ve tried soy milk for cereal etc and find that good, but in tea (good old fashioned camellia sinensis, none of the herbal or fruit teas as I’ve tried many and find them pretty revolting) I’ve tried soy, almond, rice etc and to me they all make the tea taste horrible They really do seem to have a strong taste of their own when used in tea. So – can you please tell me if there are any cow milk alternatives that DO work well in tea? I’ve yet to find one. I don’t like black tea (unless it’s Earl Grey which I like to drink occasionally but wouldn’t want all the time), so I need something to put in it. Thanks 🙂
Put in some plant based milk like soy, almond, oat, etc. Be creative.
My favorite is Oat milk it has great flavor and a thicker texture than some alternatives. I’m personally not a fan of almond milk because almonds are a water intensive crop and they are still grow frequently here even though we have been in a drought for many years now.
in California I mean
I disagree
This whole article is based on “belief”, written by “experts” (marketing experts).
Give me some sources, if you may 🙂
Show data and reliable stats prove your claims.
So, if a person who has osteoporosis, stops drinking milk, can bone density be restored?
Thanks for the insightful information on milk. I have always known that it is folly to get milk from an animal. No animal ever drinks human milk but we do theirs. At the time a child is weaned off breast milk, the child does not need any further milk again.
A citatiion is needed. What studies can you cite to support your statements above?
Thank you.
They throw around like two researchers’ findings from the entirety of the American Journal of Public Health. Aren’t those cherry-picked examples enough for you?
“I strongly suggest consuming only organic soy milk to insure it’s not made with genetically modified soy. ”
That goodness you said that. I was suspicious but open minded to what you were saying, but thankfully you corrected me. Now I know you are just one of those vegan hippies who believe we should all go back to eating nuts and berries in the plains of Africa. Of course milk is good for me, what was I thinking! Thanks again!
Vivian, I have several questions for you. In these studies about calcium loss in bones due to cow’s milk, do these studies take into account that most milk today comes fortified with the proper balance of vitamin D, which is essential to help absorb calcium into bones? That is also the case with taking calcium supplements today, whereas they include just the right amount of vitamin D to also help absorb the calcium into your bones.
Another fact is, with good health and a proper diet, your body should have a more alkaline ph balance, which will in turn help with more functions than just helping your body to absorb more calcium into your bones. For instance, if drinking milk in your breakfast, it is also recommended to eat a well balance meal, which includes fruit and citrus, which helps to lower the acid levels in your body. As you well know, eating/drinking too much of anything good or not good and not eating/drinking the other things that are essential for a proper nutritional balance to your diet, will cause various problems. It is possible to to showcase any food item and find it’s flaws. But taking it in moderation, along with a balance of other proper nutritional food items, will give the body proper protiens, carbs, amino acids, vitamins and minerals to feed cells, ward off baterias, fungals, etc, create essential amino acids internally and chemical reactions that the body needs to function optimally.
Here is my question to you to call you out on any underlying motives.
1.) Are you a vegetarian or vegan?
2.) Do you support or are a member of PETA?
3.) Do you get any monetary income or support from other alternative milk substitute companies?
I’m glad you could put my thoughts so eloquently. In my mind the results that “have been shown” by these “scientific studies” probably don’t take into context the inclusion of other directly related factors. Such as the inclusion of vitamins like D and C that help with Calcium absorption or offsetting acidity through consumption alkaline foods.
Too much of anything may be unhealthy, though studies usually take such imbalances to unrealistic extremes, the problem is most people don’t give enough attention to recognize and neutralize risk when it comes to their diet.
I know that countries that drink most milk have also the highest rates of osteoporosis. Nordic countries Sweden (3rd) Finland (4th) and Norway (5th) are on the list and in these countries vitamin D is added to milk
To support this article; the British Medical Journal concludes that “Increasing calcium intake from dietary sources or by taking calcium supplements produces small nonprogressive increases in BMD, which are unlikely to lead to a clinically significant reduction in risk of fracture.”
https://www.bmj.com/content/bmj/351/bmj.h4183.full.pdf
Did you even read that study beyond the ‘conclusion’ paragraph? Hell, did you even read that paragraph? Calcium supplements do provide a statistically notable boost to bone mineral density, but this boost doesn’t increase proportionally with your intake of calcium. You have terrible reading comprehension.
I find this all very interesting as I quit drinking cows milk for digestive reasons about a year ago. Are there any sources available for this information?
I think it’s funny how many uninformed morons are on these comments. If you took 5 minutes to Google search milk, you’ll find nothing but research and actual scientific studies from schools like HARVARD and other medical sites that say the same thing. This isn’t anything new. You’re all to bust watching CSI and Football to care. Meanwhile your kids are sucking on poison.
Another vegan moron…
The study although from Harvard must only refers to middle aged white women! Don’t believe everything you read even if it is from Harvard. And read the actual papers and not just the headline.
Sorry folks this information is the truth and it’s not your fault for being angry.. Peace out!!
This article is written by a fool.
Lots of comments and no scientific studies cited or foot notes.
So we should take this fools word for it?
Who the hell is he except a monkey that know ho to type
Well, atleast he can grammar
Dont need to rake their word for it but your free to research it for yourself. No matter the subject matter its always important to do your own research. Your and idiot.
Sorry im on a mobile. This damn autocorrect
Yea actually saliva does specific enzymes which work as anti-bacterials, so it might not be “healing” but is fires have protective properties
Soo i guess cow cheese is not good either? Or is it made differently or something?
Cheese actually has a chemical in it that make you addicted to it. All processed foods and meat have GMO’s that directly contribute to breast tumoe, kidnry, and liver problems. This comes from a scientist in France calledS
Sirilini, I may be wrong on the spelling of his name. Watch “GMO OMG” on Netflix.. Get your mind blown!
It’s actually a protein found in dairy called casein. It is designed to make the mother’s milk more appealing to the baby and make him/her want to feed. This helps make sure the baby will grow fast, big, and healthy. It affects humans as well by making us crave cheese in particular because, it is more condensed in cheese as opposed to milk.
m8,
The only people who agree with you are vegans and christians because they want for once to not look like idiots. https://www.webmd.com/diet/healthy-kitchen-11/dairy-truths?page=1 , this article is a balanced explanation on the effects of milk by a frickin’ professional website (extremely reliable source), this states that milk, even though it has contributed to certain health problems, is very healthy. I had one of my friends coming in class with this bs stuck in his head and now he’s a vegan promoting veganism in my geography class. He’s failed his biology gcse because of this article. Please take it off! It’s a pain for all of us.
What makes WebMD reliable? Because you say so? If you’re going to be a troll you should be less obvious.
So instead of making your self look like a bigger fool why not google it and find out for your self rather than posting what you think is the truth. Don’t be made because your ignorant and misinformed.
Webmd is an extremely reliable health information source; much more so than saveourbones.com.
You need a lot more than just calcium to have healthy bones; you need good doses of Vitamin D. Milk has both, healthy doses of calcium AND Vitamin D. You best alternative to milk would be salmon, but according to this article, that’s bad too, since it’s meat and meat produces calcium-reducing acids… Such hogwash.
You should read the WebMD article – it does not support drinking milk. It merely lists the pro and the con, and the con is very damning, no one would want to drink milk after reading it.
i read the article and I realize it was written by someone who played the cons heavier because they have an agenda. 1% for life, yo
I read the WebMD article. It says “there’s very little evidence that milk consumption is associated with reduced fractures”.
It also says “One cup of 2% milk has 138 calories, for instance. Drinking three cups a day adds 366 calories to the diet — a lot for anyone watching their weight.” Note they are talking about 2% milk, which all milk drinkers will tell you, “is like drinking water.”
WebMD also warns “there’s quite a body of data showing a higher risk of fatal prostate cancer associated with milk… we’ve still seen a slightly higher risk of ovarian cancer associated with drinking three or more servings of milk”
It has to be whole milk , think about it since everyone has believed the lie that “whole” milk is bad osteoporosis has become epidemic , it was unheard of when people reguarly consumed” whole” milk , not 2%, 1%, skim .
The bible is the secret or” Foundation of Nutrition” and it speaks highly about the benefits of whole milk from a goat or cow , se Ex 3 , 13 , 33, and Isa 7 : all, Isa 55 : 1 NIV bible .
It’s one of the” 4 “original food groups , and think about it are not” whole” grains good why would” whole “dairy not be , why wouldn’t you want something” whole” ?.
Don’t believe the lies you hear today almost nothing you read or hear is true as one of God’s great prophets predicted for our” modern “times Isa 59 : 15 [ NIV] bible .
And remember the most important” 2″ points to milk is that it’s whole and the cows are grass fed , raw isn’t necessary because vit D is stable in heat , and of course hormone , anti biotic free .
Actually, osteoporosis is so common now because, all those children that were drinking milk (esp. Whole) so readily as they were growing, and then into adulthood, and throughout their lives, have now reached an older age where their calcium stores have depleted, and the damage of a lifetime of milk consumption is evident in their hunched backs, their fracturing hips, and so on. There are many in our population hitting these ages now.
By the way, the food groups are changing for a reason.
I am a computer scientist, with no background in Ag. I see that you have a MA in nutritional sciences and biochemistry, so I am sure you have run into sources that back up some of these claims. Please post! 🙂
With respect, Matt, the offering of bulls was part of the mosaic law which is no longer practiced today, and the taking of hard drugs though not explicitly described in the Bible as wrong, in principle is warned against in 2 Corinthians 7:1: “Since we have these promises, beloved ones, let us cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” Keeping your body clean means not taking drugs, and not smoking either. Please do your research first.
God also says that his favorite smell is that of a burning ox. Have you sacrificed an ox lately? Why not? God explicitly states this. Don’t you want to please your almighty? God also mentions nothing about doing hardcore drugs. So it’s either God has no foresight and is not almighty, or God specifically thought it was okay and people who say it’s not are being arrogant blasphemers.
You’re hilarious, milk and flesh contain insane amounts of not only estrogen, but tos of other hormones (60+ including stress hormones from you know, being released when the animal was being tortured and killed) in levels much higher than soy. That said, I very rarely consume it unless it has been fermented but I don’t know where you are finding your Ag-lobbied data, but it’s pretty amazing how easily you swallow their obvious agenda. Go vegan, minimize suffering and save the planet. https://www.onegreenplanet.org/natural-health/how-dairy-affects-your-hormones/
Exactly this. Author is probably a vegan fatso with no friends.
Author obviously isn’t vegan as they are promoting honey and other dairy products such as yoghurt. You just can’t face the truth.
Hmmm………… Let me guess. I can just see the author now. A pathetic, oily haired, sickly, pale complexioned righteous know-it-all liberal vegetarian with no athleticism whatsoever with the strength of a butterfly whose idea of a good time is to ponder all the “dangerous” food and beverage STILL available.
Three words…………. Get. A. Life.
You seem to have nothing nice to say. Guess you got offended by this artivle, so you gave to degrade someone else to feel superior and intelligent!? Go you.
Says the vegan, once again!
*article
By the way, stop arguing with people that aren’t your “kind,” just because they’re not vegans.
I didnt know vegans promote eating dairy yogurt…?
Hey John Why are you telling her to get a life ? Your the one that believes milk is good for the body but yet your reading and commenting on this article so maybe you should get a LIFE sound like you have nothing better to do then to go on different pages and talk shit.
What a stupid article.
If you consume ANY protein your uric acid levels will go up and your body will have to neutralize. Should we also stop eating nuts, broccolli and soy because it is depleting calcium from our bones?
Wow, stupidity has reached new lows.
No, stupidity has reached new lows when the human race are consuming the milk of another species even though we are repulsed by the idea of the consumption of our own species breast milk after infancy.
It’s only animal protein that causes the PH to lower. It is due to the high sulfur content in all animal protein. When sulfur combines with water (in the blood) it becomes acidic.
Where did you get this information from? ALL forms of protein break down into amino acids. Digestion of proteins in the stomach is helped by stomach acid, which is strong hydrochloric acid. It has nothing to do with animals.
Source of protein does matter. There’s more to it than amino acids. The sugar in meat is Neu5Gc – suspected to be a cause of cancer in humans. The gut bacteria in humans will create TMAO when it comes in contact with meat, chemicals harmful in increased risk of heart disease.
I agree that stupidity has reached new lows with the human race, but you’re part of it. Why would you still drink breast milk after infancy? You like using woman for your advantage? Human’s use other animals for food, and it’s been that way for centuries! Obviously another vegan on this website…
Hi,
Thank you for an incredible research in regard to detrimental effect of milk. Despite great resistance and criticism, it remains to be a fact. God created us as vegetarians. Study your teeth without even reading the bible. Milk is very dangerous. It actually changes our body chemistry negatively and its the genesis of many diseases. In old age, people use to drink milk ignorantly but their electricity (energy) were 20 times ours. God ignore the time of ignorance. Continue preaching the truth even to the rebellious generation which is similar to the time of Noah and Lot. Herbivorous animals are strong and healthy without drinking milk. How can they get calcium?
Philip, the bible is Gods word and it speaks highly of drinking milk Isa 55 : 1 , Ex 3 , Ex 13, Ex 33 NIV bible .
It’s one of the” 4 “original food groups , how could a food group be bad ?, remember the old saying to ensure you get all 6 essential nutrients eat from all 4 food groups. And how could something” whole” be bad , whole grains are good why wouldn’t” whole” milk be ?.
Look at all the disk and skeletal degeneration over the last 20 yrs since everyone quit drinking” whole” milk , and go back even 50yrs ago , people grew up on and lived their whole lives on whole milk and they were way healthier than we every are .
Don’t believe much of anything you read or hear today as one of Gods great prophets predicted for our” modern times” about 4000yrs ago Isa 59 : 15( NIV). bible .
But yet… God speaks EXTREMELY HIGHLY about the benefits of drinking cow’s milk…
My Husband wants to know why we can have unsweetened Yogart. It also comes from cows. Thank You
I think this all comes down to people with diseases and health problems wanting a scapegoat to direct their anger and frustration towards. The concepts in your article are not facts, they are misguided theories. When you look at reliable data and actual statistics you’ll see that those who drink milk on a daily basis show much better health, especially bone health, than those who don’t. Drinking more milk would certainly be beneficial to someone with osteoporosis. Natural medicine does not work and should never be practiced in place of real medicine.
https://nutritionstudies.org/12-frightening-facts-milk/
Jim ,your exactly right , osteoporosis was unheard of when people drank whole milk like 50yrs ago and before, as opposed to now were every one has been” falsely” led to believe whole milk is bad .
And remember what Hippocrates said ” Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food “. Real medicine is food , conventional medicine is terrible , the side effects.
The processed food you eat today has no real nutritional value. It’s junk. Real food is not processed such as, dates, figs, veggies, seeds, etc…
People from the Bible didn’t consume, antibiotics, growth hormones, pesticides, and GMOs. Back in those days the animals lived in natural environments, not tiny cages.
Says you? You drink Almond Breeze, ffs!
Drinking more milk lj actually made me gain weight, feel sluggish, anxious, have digestive problems, more acne, and depression. Once I removed it from my diet, I started eating more fruits, oars, graibs, and berries. Each and every negative affect from the milk decreased. Within only two weeks I feel better. I even lost ten pounds in a month. Then ten more for two more months. I’ve never felt more energized. Milk is not put our safe anymore when there are so many impurities in its now because of the previewing l processing and Additives, aka genetically modified organisms. GMO’s do cause negative affects in your body. Face that facts and try testing it out yourself if you don’t believe. You can prove its yourself. I challenge all of you “nay” Sayers to just test run going without animals in your mouth. I have helped convert some to the vegan LIFESTYLE, and those who told me are happy they evolved from eating meat. True carnivores do NOT COOK their meat, so why do you? Wild carnivores eat raw bloody flesh.
Vegangirl, you lost 20 pounds in 2 month time after starting veganism. Your body used fat and muscles to survive, becouse vegan diet not gave enough nutritions. The same result you can acvieve with normal diet consuming less calories.
I love the milk rage. People like ready to stab each other over a milk argument. All I have to say is that everything the author said about acidity and calcium deficiency is not true. And that’s literally the only point they had. Check out the link below:

*sigh*
https://www.webmd.com/diet/healthy-kitchen-11/dairy-truths
The cons on that page outweigh the pros. Reading your previous posts show you support milk drinking but this article contradicts what youve been saying…?
Of course most the the responses are rude, crude or plain ignorant. People just love their milk and (especially) cheese so they aren’t going to listen to you. But of course, you are correct. Thanks for your article.
Thank you! people are so stubborn when it comes to milk and other dairy products. Your body has a hard time digesting dairy products period whether you are lactose intolerant or not. why is it that people get backed up and constipated when they consume to much dairy? Also your body makes its own calcium. Its up to you to give it the proper nutrients like building blocks to produce it. Calcium is a dead mineral your body cant use it very well in its dead state, probably just fuck your joints with calcification down the line. its like consuming a bag of concrete and shitting bricks, but my mommy said…??? Your mommas wrong, especially for feeding you the pasteurized shit.
Dave, it’s the opposite whole dairy helps you move your bowels , it’ doesn’t cause constipation , and hardly anyone drinks” whole” milk today in our country mostly 2 % , 1% , skim.
And I drink like a half gallon a day of” whole” milk and move my bowels like 4 times a day , and pasteurization doesn’t alter milk at all because Vit D is stable in heat , the only Vit that’s” not “stable in heat is . “C ”
Look at all the disk and skeletal problems today because everyone has believed the lie whole milk is bad , and osteoporosis is epidemic in women , again, because no one is drinking” whole” milk .
It’s one of the” 4″ original food groups ,” whole dairy” products , think about it, how could a food group be bad , and how could something” whole” be bad , ?. Don’t believe the nonsense you hear today it’s all lies there is no truth out there today as was predicted for our modern times by a great man of God, Isa 59 : 15 [ NIV] bible .
It used to be called” White blood” because it was so important to good health back during the world wars.
I care. I appreciate you doing your research and using reputable sources. Most people will be offended by this because it goes against what they were taught and bright up with, but unfortunately this article is true and terrible. Several of you say noon one cares. Obviously you do care of you would refrain from commenting at all. Great article; don’t stop!
Ur no supposed to poop 3-4 times a day! This article is facts.
Yes you’re right some people are so spiteful and filled with such hatred. It’s such a shame.
There is some truth to the information in the article, yes, but also some very misleading, misguiding stuff. ALL protein consumption results in a spike in acid, as protein enzymes break down into Amino Acids. This has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with cow’s milk and/or animal protein, but rather with the human anatomy and protein breakdown in general.
Sharon, are you a moron?
Oh wait, I already know that.
Go and smell the roses before calling others ignorant, when you’re the ignorant one.
People drank milk all throughout the Bible. So i would rather trust God rather than some idiot writing this article. The thing is that we have to drink raw milk from healthy cows or goats.
Fascinatingly stupid.
Another reason that the bible is a book of nonsense.
You sir, are officially the stupidest person I have seen this week
Spencer , your exactly right , the bible is the secret or” Foundation of Nutrition” and it’s speaks highly of whole milk , but you don’t need to drink it raw , Vit ” D” is” stable” in heat so pasteurization doesn’t alter it to any appreciable extent. What’s most important is that the cows are grass fed , and that the milk is whole , why wouldn’t any one want something” whole” .
They didn’t consume GMO’s, antibiotics, growth hormones, and pesticides either. Unfortunately, the things listed are in all meat, corn, and American and Canadian processed junk. Cow milk and giat milk are designed for their respective young. Furthermore, if you want to go Bible deep. Go to Genesis where it is mentioned that fruit and seed bearing plants will be your meat. Also, thumb through to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego when they turned away from meat and consumed only vegetables, fruits etc..
They’re also included in virtually any food you eat, be it organic vegan or not. Even if you grow your own stuff, the soil it grows in is full of GMO, pesticides, etc.
If you are going by your bible, it says your god designed people for the garden of eden – they were vegan – all animals were vegan, even the lion. After original sin they were cast out. If you believe so much in gods perfection, why not try to live it as he intended you to?
No they were not vegans for one
beasts [chayah] of the earth after their kind”; and it was so. And God made the beasts [chayah] of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:24-25)
All of these use of the words shows they were meat eaters not all were vegans
Even if people drank milk throughout the “Bible”, how to do you know it was not bad for them at that point as well? If people slammed heroin throughout the bible would you then believe that it’s good for you? Sorry but, your comment is irrelevant and I’m sure I speak for many when I say that I trust someone who has osteoporosis and has done plenty of research on the given subject over some “guy” up in the clouds telling us how to live our lives. Or an old book that was written and re-written hundreds of times by hundreds of people. Maybe one of them was a dairy farmer? Who knows…who cares.
This is bullshit. In my country all the people who live in the villages drink milk everyday and they tend to be one of the healthy people and ones who live a longer active lifestyle. My grandparents drank milk at least once a day and they lived to 87 and 96 and almost till the end(a little over a month) they were active and healthy and they drank milk and ate other milk base foods. What it is also true is they used natural cow milk.
We all know milk is made to provide a source of food for new born babies until they can digest whole foods, This goes for goats, cows, humans, and all other speices. So why would grown human beings drink milk that was made for a baby calf’s genetic make up? If we want to drink the milk that was made for us, why don’t we drink human milk? Then we wouldn’t even drink human milk because it’s made for babies.
Saying that milk is for babies, thus grown ups should not drink it, is like saying seeds are for growing new plants, therefore you shouldnt eat them.
Milk=highly nutritious protein and calcium rich food.
Seeds=highly nitritious protein and fat rich, in some cases calcium rich.
Hey there!
I’m a little bit confused by your comment here because seeds grow into plants and plants do not get help from their parents to grow. Therefore these two things are not comparable. Also the bottom line is if humans were meant to drink milk throughout life our mothers would continue to produce milk for the duration of her life. 🙂
UHMM if a baby continues to drink from a womans breast, the mother continues to produce milk. You can have a ten year old child and if they continued to breast feed, you would still produce milk, once the infant/child stops suckling, the milk stops producing. Have you ever heard of a wet nurse? Your point is invalid after that statement.
Hey Vee!
Although your statement is somewhat true you didn’t take into consideration that after menopause it is hard for women to produce milk and almost impossible to do it naturally!
Dexter, milk is a” food and it’s a whole food at that , you drink it for nourishment not hydration .
Go back 50 yrs and before people were way healthier than we are now and they grew up on and lived their whole lives on” whole” milk , calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body , that’s why today so many have disk and skeletal problems , because everyone quit drinking whole milk , believing the lie you hear today that it’s detrimental to your health .
There’s a saying ” If it’s true it’s not new , and if it’s new it’s not true “., don’t believe the nonsense you hear or read today . There is no truth out there today , you have to search for the real truth , as Christ said” seek the truth and the truth will set you free”.
I was wondering if this article is really true? There is a lot of controversy in comments from others! i am not sure whether to stop drinking milk or not! Please help!
It would be great if you gave real scientific proof to back you up.
I have been told for years that milk is good for me from home to school. How can it be so bad for us? And why wouldn’t higher authorities inform us!!
H! I totally support and believe this. Everything that we know is produced misinformation by the dairy industry. You can learn that now, I’m so excited that this news is finally breaking to the public. The vegan community has known about this for a long time. For more information, I love love love this video. It’s great for anyone to watch!

From my personal experience milk is terrible for you. It also increases mucus build up. Milk comes from tortured raped cows whos babies are then sold, collared and chained up to be sliced into veal, placed in a dumpster, killed, or sold at auction because they are not needed. That’s how you get milk. Think about if it were you. A cow living in a natural environment can live up to 28-30 years, but the oppressed ones die of exhaustion at 4 – 4.5 years. The animals is dirty and unclean from chemicals when she heads to slaughter. They cry out for each baby taken from them as well so you know. Cows are sweet, gentle, loving, and form loving bonds with all creatures naturally. The industry treats the cow as a machine which clearly is not. Most Jews and black people can relate to impression and can see clearer why these things are wrong. Even Hitler learned how to torture and disfigure Jews by visiting slaughter houses, so he could do it to people.
Take your study,
& SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASS!
I can’t believe people believe stuff like this. Wait, yes I can! Vegetarians and vegans LOOOVE this kind of shit because it validates their practices… what is really wrong with people who fall apart emotionally at the thought of killing an animal? They are either VERY frail minded, or they have dirty laundry…
I am not vegan nor vegitarian. But i’ll always pass on the titty milk.

Also, it’s called having feelings. This is a normal thing that we all have. Some of us are just more in touch with our feelings than others. One day we’ll look back and laugh and wonder how we can do something so unhealthy and unethical.
Dairy is not only horrendously unethical, it’s very unhealthful for humans, (besides breast milk for babies) https://nutritionfacts.org/topics/dairy/
Unfortunately, you were brought up and taught how to hate, abuse, and torture animals. Naturally, a baby will play with a bunny and eat an apple if placed in front of them you are the weak one. It’s takes far more resources to produce milk and meat. You need to grow a backbone you spineless coward. You call yourself strong because you can kill, maim, and abuse a defenseless gentle creature? Watch a documentary and expand your mind. Several I’ve already listed. You are the coward you abusive ahole.
the kid is hungry and starving the the woods. it watches the wolves that raised it feast on the flesh of lowly beasts. it understands sustenance. it sees the bear eat berries yet also fish. it understands sustenance. Put a child before food and they will eat it. We are OMNIVORES. naturally, we eat both. We don’t need as much meat as we eat, but neither can man survive on any extreme. My grandfather lived to 99. He walked out of his house after his stroke and into the ambulance. His motto was everything in moderation. He drank milk, and ate meat.

A LOT of studies and info there show how bad dairy is for humans (besides breast milk for babies).
Where does it ONCE say on that site there is proof of anything? It all says “may also” or “may be linked” or “potentially allergenic”. Also, if it were all based on facts, where is the links to the studies? All they do is link to their own site…
When I learned that cows milk had an allowable amount of pus, blood cells, and that it can deplete your bones of calcium I stopped drinking it. A couple of months later I stopped consuming all dairy and found plant based calcium rich products. I used to have arthritis in my toe and ankle joints from wearing high heels most of my 20’s and had broken both my feet within a few months time and was still having pain from this. Ditching cows milk and dairy, now my arthritis does not bother me at all it so little I no longer need medication, same for my pain from my past broken bones- it’s gone or hardly there. My skin is more clear and my hair is more healthy. I feel so much better.
It’s crazy how many people still think cows milk is good for you even when faced with medical facts.
Cows milk is for baby cows. Ditching dairy is not just good for your health but it also helps save baby cows lives who are stolen away from their moms and killed for veal, and fights against dairy farm cruelty period.
You have nothing to lose by ditching cows milk and dairy altogether.
true. i am a high school student, and i may not be well informed about this but i do know that cow milk contains extra hormones, causing some skin problems. i had acne, but once i stopped drinking cow milk i slowly got healthier skin. it was slow but it was noticeable. i didnt need any acne medication, all i needed was to stop drinking or eating products that produce acne, like milk. therefore, i agree with your stance because of your knowledge and experience
There is no medical fact that says bovine milk is bad for you. I imagine that most likely what has helped you, is that you have stopped drinking commercialized milk. That is not natural milk. If you were drinking skim or lowfat milk, that was even worse. Since arthritis can be made worse from a deficiency in calcium…eliminating the commercialized bovine milk likely allowed many toxins to be removed from your body. I don’t know what plants you switched to, but many plants have magnesium, which is one of the requirements for calcium absorption. Saturated fats are also required for proper calcium absorption and utilization.
Too much estrogen or not enough can also make arthritis worse, and underactive thyroids can cause a reduction in insulin, and this can make arthritis worse as well. I would not be surprised if eliminating the milk reduced your estrogen down to a more balanced level. Eliminating soy from your diet will have a beneficial effect on you as well, as pretty much all thyroid issues in the U.S. are related to having too much improperly prepared soy in their diet.
Drinking milk is not necessary, but its not bad if you get the right milk, and like I said, I drink only grass fed and usually raw milk when I can. I hope to switch to goat or sheep milk someday, but bovine works for now as long as its from properly raised cows.
Congrats on getting rid of your arthritis! Hope you continue to live as naturally pain free as you can:)
Oh yeah! I’ll take a hot ass perky boobed vegan chick over a fat greasy pasty meat eater any day. They’re vegan because it works and their bodies and complexions are testament to it. Easy test – See how long you stay healthy eating only meat vs eating only vegan.
I have never drank cow’s milk…It just does not agree with me…I do like goat milk though..and goat yogurt…What’s your feeling on that?
We all know milk is made to provide a source of food for new born babies until they can digest whole foods, This goes for goats, cows, humans, and all other speices. So why would grown human beings drink milk that was made for a baby calf’s genetic make up? If we want to drink the milk that was made for us, why don’t we drink human milk? Then we wouldn’t even drink human milk because it’s made for babies.
Milk depletes calsium from your bones because milk acidifies the body pH? Then lemon juice should be bad for our bones as well! Don’t drink lemon juice or eat lemons or eat oranges or eat fruites or just die, what a nonsense.
Lemons and other citrus fruits leave alkaline residue after digestion. Meaning they do not create acidity in the stomach. Animal protein is different. It causes acidity which triggers calcium to be leeched from the bones.
Lemons and oranges are acidic outside of the body, but once our body digest them, they turn akaline. There are great books and articles on the PH balance.
Don’t, just don’t.. kyle knows exactly what he talking about…
No, not really. He gives a lot of data points to make you believe it, but he doesn’t. He didn’t know what acidity means. 🙂
Gaurav,
Please explain your reason for believing I don’t know anything about acidity. Good luck, as everything I posted is easy to fact check, but I would love to see you give source based reasons behind your belief that I’m incorrect on anything I posted.
Lets see your data points.
I’m not sure what you mean by ‘create acidity in the stomach’. Hydrochloric Acid is always in our stomach, though the stomach cells can increase acid production when stimulated by Gastrin It has two purposes. One is to provide a medium for the enzyme Pepsin to break down protein into peptides and amino acids for later absorption in the intestines.
The other is to inactivate any harmful micro-organisms you may have ingested along with your food (food borne pathogens). Other than the acidic E. Coli strain bred inside grain fed cows (vs the neutral or alkaline E. Coli that is bred inside pastured grass raised cows), most food borne pathogens have no chance in the stomachs of healthy individuals.
The pancreas secretes a bicarbonate buffer into the small intestine to neutralize the acidic food particles coming from the stomach. The neutral environment of this portion of your gut encourages the activity of more protein-digesting enzymes originating from both your pancreas and the cells lining your small intestine. These enzymes work on the food peptides, systematically breaking them down into even smaller peptides and then snipping off the amino acids one by one. At this point, the absorptive cells of your small intestine carry the single amino acids to your bloodstream and then on to the cells throughout your body.
Carbs and lipids are first broken down in the mouth via saliva, and are then later broken down inside the intestines. Both saliva and the small intestine contain the enzyme Amylase, which breaks down starches. . Similarly, the three major enzymes which break apart sugars — sucrase, maltase and lactase — are also found in the saliva and in the small intestine. The digested starches and sugars move through the small intestine where they are absorbed.
To be clear, no where in the digestive system is calcium involved. Blood pH is controlled by the lungs and kidneys. The kidneys have two very important roles in maintaining the acid-base balance: to reabsorb bicarbonate from urine, and to excrete hydrogen ions into urine. The kidneys are slower to compensate than the lungs, but renal physiology has several powerful mechanisms to control pH by the excretion of excess acid or base. The major homeostatic control point for maintaining a stable balance is renal excretion.
Bicarbonate (HCO3-) does not have a transporter, so its reabsorption involves a series of reactions in the tubule lumen and tubular epithelium. In response to acidosis, tubular cells reabsorb more bicarbonate from the tubular fluid, while collecting-duct cells secrete more hydrogen and generate more bicarbonate, and ammoniagenesis leads to increased formation of the NH3 buffer. In response to alkalosis, the kidneys may excrete more bicarbonate by decreasing hydrogen ion secretion from the tubular epithelial cells, and lowering rates of glutamine metabolism and ammonium excretion.

This is one source, but there are others. Its a scientific fact that food has no affect on the body’s pH, and our bones, along with calcium, are not involved in any way with controlling blood pH.
If eating meat was bad, homo sapiens would not exist. Herbivores do not digest their food in their stomach, although stomach number 4 in ruminants do perform some digestion. Carnivores, and humans, do not have the ability to digest cellulose. This is why foods surrounded by cellulose, that are not chewed properly to break its coating, are not digested, but instead eliminated as waste, and found in your stool. Humans, unlike carnivores, do have amylase, to assist in breaking down carbs, but its not efficient. Herbivores have extremely large cecums full of bacteria for digestive aids. Carnivores have a very, very small cecum/appendix that has an as yet determined function. Humans have a cecum/appendix, that is slightly larger, proportionally, but also with an as yet determined function. The only reason humans are classified as omnivores, and not carnivores, is because we have the enzyme amylase, which gives us the ability to digest carbs from plants. While inefficient, this is likely an adaptation to allow us to survive in times where meat was scarce, though going too long without meat would severely weaken us, as unlike herbivores who continually digest many pounds of bacteria to obtain animal protein, we can not do the same, though eating insect and insect larvae that resided on any plant material we ingested, would help with this.
You were sounding credible up to the point where you begin to theorize in your closing statements. Not much supports what you say.
I never said my theory on why we have amylase was correct. I did say it was likely, based on the facts that I laid out. Maybe amylase has always been there, and our bodies have either gone from efficient to inefficient, or stayed at inefficiency due to a lack of necessity for it in our history. Considering that agriculture has only been around for several millennia, I believe that efficient to inefficiency just doesn’t make sense. So we either didn’t start with it, and developed it over time, or we did start with it, but rarely used it until the beginning of agriculture.
Keep in mind that most foods that aren’t meat or fruits require preparation for our bodies to even use. This was done early on in our agricultural history. Its only in very recent industrialized history that proper preparation is no longer done. Soaking, sprouting, and/or fermentation of many nuts and vegetables, and all grains and legumes is generally the best, or in some cases, the only way to make them useful. Plants can’t move, and many develop anti-nutritional (phytochemical) defenses.
Herbivores do not need to prepare their herbs prior to digesting. In most cases, humans do. I’ve never heard of any other omnivore that prepares their vegetarian diet before eating. In my opinion, this supports my reasoning that amylase exists in humans solely to provide for us during times when meat is scarce, because in the beginning, we didn’t know how to properly prepare them to optimal nutritional value.
Thank you Kyle !
If I had to say anything it’d be:
Go read Kyle’s posts for some knowledge.
Warm diluted lemon juice actually neutralizes stomach acids facillitating heartburn prevention. It is countertuitive to think of this juice as alkaline when metabolized, but true nevertheless. There is nothing more annoying and speaks of laziness when speaking on something to which you know little or have not done your homework.
Those are natural fruit acids that are actually healthy acids.
One thing I forgot to mention, is why calcium isn’t the reason we should be drinking milk. I don’t believe that human babies should ever be fed milk from any other mammal. They need human milk only. Because milk is designed for the young if its own species, it will generally not have all the required nutrients that a different species would have. As an adult human, I have no problem drinking raw bovine milk from a naturally raised cow, as I am in it for the protein and probiotics (when I drink the raw milk). I’ve been asked why I don’t just get protein from other foods, and I tell them I do, but milk is a liquid, and while thicker than water, its a thirst quencher, and I enjoy mixing it with my grain free cereal and yogurt just before bed. Even with the additional fat contained in raw milk, I still get additional fat from other foods that I eat prior to my bedtime cereal I generally have 2 cups of herbal tea with a tablespoon of virgin coconut oil in it as well each night, and all my cooking is with coconut oil or animal fat.
I’d also like to mention that raw goat milk is far better than raw cow milk. Though not a perfect substitute, as I think there is one main ingredient its missing or low in, it is probably the closest you can get to human milk without actually being human, chemically speaking. I don’t have affordable access to raw goat milk, though. Its nearly twice as much fatty acids as bovine milk, which is a huge plus. I’ll be switching to raw goat milk if I ever get practical access to it. If I ever get a big enough home and yard, I may see about getting my own goat, but I know nothing about raising or milking a goat, and would have lot of studying to do before I would do something like that.
This article is full of misinformation.
First of all, milk does not turn your body acidic nor alkaline. NO FOOD OR DRINK TURNS YOUR BODY ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. Your blood ph remains a static 7.35 to 7.45 and there is absolutely nothing you can do to change this, except die.
I don’t know where this faddish idea of acidic and alkaline eating came from, but its total whack. Since it badmouths fats and red meat, its already flawed from the get go. At 40 years old, with nary a broken bone or a sickness to be had, I’m very healthy according to my doctors. I have eaten meat, especially chicken and beef, nearly my whole life. I drink plenty of whole milk, eat plenty of sushi, and shunned veggies, grains, and legumes….not because I thought they were bad, but because I prefer bacon, eggs, and milk for breakfast, any meant for lunch, and lots of meat and fish for dinner. I put garlic and either cayenne, chili, or habanero pepper on nearly everything I eat. (I actually use many different kinds of herbs and spices, but those are my favorite) My bones are strong with no signs of weakening. Now, in the past 2 years, I’ve included steamed or sautéed leafy greens, with mushrooms, and carrots with my meat, used my bones to make bone stock for soups and hot drinks. I’ve switched to grass fed only beef and raw milk, pastured chicken, eggs,, turkey, and pork, with even more bacon than ever. I maintained my summer sun, but now including UVB tanning with VitD supplementation in the winter, along with HighVitK2 grass fed butter and fermented fish oil supplements. I eat more deep sea salmon and skipjack tuna than ever before, mostly on workout days, as eggs and tuna are a great protein meal. I only eat between 4 and midnight, and usually my last meal before bed is a bowl of grain free cereal with raw whole milk and grass fed plain, unsweetened live yogurt. My doc says I’ve gotten even more healthy in the past year and asked what I changed.
now, 2) Milk does NOT suddenly become bad for you simply because you are weaned and mamma stops producing milk. Raw, natural pastured cow, goat, sheep, and many other mammal milk is great for human consumption at ANY age. Human milk is even better. The reason why mammals generally stop drinking milk after weaning is because mamma stops producing it. Why does she stop producing it? Because the amount of energy required to produce nutrients for herself and her babies is very extensive. Once her children can eat their normal diet, its simply not practical to continue producing nutrients for so many stomachs, especially stomachs that are wanting more and more as they grow. So nature tells momma to stop producing milk, and since the ability to drink milk is no longer necessary, the majority, if not all, nonhuman mammals start reducing the production of lactase. Due to the domestication of some milk producing animals and the subsequent milking of such animals for cheese and yogurt as far back as 11,000 years ago in the middle east, a genetic mutation happened around 5000-7000 years ago, give or take, that spread through Europe like wildfire, allowing lactase to be produced throughout a person’s lifetime, which is why most Europeans and their descendants have no problems drinking milk throughout adulthood. ‘Tis good to be Irish:)
3) Calcium may be the reason people have been told to drink milk, but that is not the reason to drink milk. We actually don’t need that much calcium, but we do need magnesium, something which many americans do not get enough of. Vitamin A, D, E, K, and Calcium are fat soluble. The body needs saturated fats, and magnesium, to absorb calcium into the bones. The body also needs those fats to convert beta carotene into vitamin A, and to carry fat soluble vitamins and minerals throughout the body. The heart has the most Magnesium in your body. Too much calcium can cause a deficiency in your magnesium, if you don’t have enough Mg to compensate for it, and that could lead to heart attacks. However, that is not enough. K2 keeps calcium where it belongs. Too much calcium and not enough K2 allows calcium to accumulate where it doesn’t belong. Also, while you can’t overdose on vitamin D through the sun and foods, taking too much oral supplementation of vitamin D (its really a hormone, not a vitamin, but old habits die hard), without enough K2 to compensate, can cause Vitamin D toxicity. However, this is rare, and it does take quite a bit of vitamin D to cause this, generally in the tens of thousands of UI per day for several months, based on some studies…however, it is still in the study mode. Basically, you need to maintain a balance of calcium, magnesium, K2 and D in your body. Calcium and magnesium should be about 1:1. Industrial agriculture has greatly reduced the amount of magnesium in the soils, so unless you’re getting local farm grown foods, or your own backyard with good mineral fertilizers, you may need to get look out for signs of magnesium deficiency, sense its difficult to detect in the blood. Numbness, tingling, muscle contractions and cramps, seizures, headaches, nausea, fatique….yeah, the same symptoms for many other issues. Leafy greens like spinach and seaweed, along with some nuts and seeds, and even avocados are good sources. Spinach and sweet potato leaves are great sources of nutrients in general. Eating avocados with spinach together give a nutrient dense result bigger than the sum of their individual parts. For whatever reason, spinach and avocado work great magic together inside your body. K2 can be gotten through animals based foods such as meat, poultry, butter, cheese, and eggs. Most people get enough calcium from their foods, so its only K2, magnesium, and Hormone D you need to worry about, depending on how much meat and greens you eat, and sun you get. Remember, you can’t make Hormone D if you’re using sunscreen, and you need saturated fats to absorb your fat soluble nutrients, including calcium. That is why using vegetable oils to cook in, while drinking lots of lowfat and/or skim milk does nothing good for you, and much bad for you. Too much unused calcium is a bad thing, and your bones get brittle. Its like dying of thirst on an island. You’re surrounded by your need, but unable to partake.
4) seriously, do I need to say more? Here’s the deal. Is lowfat milk bad for you? yes. its useless at best, and bad at worst. Is skim milk bad for you? yes, same thing. Is whole milk bad for you? That depends. If it came from commercialized feedlots, then yes. If it came from organic farms…then its probably good, but then it depends on the farm. Organic (as related to animal products) is supposed to mean animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products do not take antibiotics or growth hormones. Now, generally, once a calf is separated from its poor, sad, lonely, and depressed mother, and switched to corn and other grains, the cow must receive antibiotics in order to keep from getting too sick from eating unnatural foods. They generally receive growth hormones as well, to grow them as quickly as possible. Now, this tells me that organic beef must be mostly grass fed, if not fully, with perhaps minor supplementation during certain times of the year with some grains. I try to only look for milk that is labeled grass fed, or organic milk from farms I can visit and see myself. There is a local farm near me, where I can get raw grass fed milk, and I get it whenever I can afford it, and its available. When I can’t, I opt for organic, pasteurized milk. I also look for local grassfed butter (i’ve not found any near me) or kerrygold butter. I look for raw cheeses and naturally raised animal cheeses. I go for the blocks, grate or shred them, and store them in airtight containers. I love using shredded cheese, as they melt so much better.
6) is almond or coconut milk good for you? if you see it in a carton, then no. If you get it straight from the nut, then maybe. Always soak your nuts overnight with a touch of vinegar. Dry them, and mash the almonds yourself. For coconuts, soaking is not necessary, and you just pop a hole, insert straw and drink up. Later, crack it open and scoop out the meat for eating as it, or save it to use it in a dish. If you look at almond and coconut milk ingredients on the carton, you’ll quickly see why its bad. Most of the time you’ll see Vitamin A Palmitate, which is bad, as are ALL synthetic vitamins. Vitamin D2, which is the toxic form of Hormone D. In cases of Hormone D toxicity, I believe it was D2 that was the problem, and not D3. This could be because D2 is made by irradiating yeast and mushrooms. Many contain carrageenan, which is classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (part of WHO) as a potential carcinogen. For me, with so many alternatives, no way would I drink any of these.
Lastly:) Soy milk. There is NO SUCH THING AS GOOD SOY. Even year long fermented soy from Asian countries is not good….just not that bad, and is ok in moderation. If you buy anything soy in American, its probably bad, unless its a soy sauce that has been properly fermented for months. I can promise you the fermentation was done in another country, not America. Few companies will take the many months required to properly ferment soy to make it ok for human consumption. Soy is responsible for many of the thyroid and estrogen related cancer problems rampant today. Its full of phytoestrogens that are very bad for the body. Babies fed soy formula were found to be take the hormone equivalent of 4 birth control pills a day. Even if that is a tad bit exaggerated….holy cow! Girls used to hit puberty at 14-15. Now, many are hitting it at 6-7. Even the tiny gymnasts are hitting it at 12-14, instead of the normal 17-18, I say normal, because until the 1900s, that was normal. The grain revolution of the 20th century is destroying our bodies and our babies. Soy is also a big goitrogenic food. This prevents your thyroid from getting enough iodine. Thyroid failure occurs, and then nothing but weight gain complaints every day for the rest of your life. The phytates in soy can not be soaked out. They must be fermented out over months. Phytates inhibit nutrient absorption, and is present in all grains, seeds, nuts, and legumes, but normally in amounts that can be managed through overnight soaking, minor fermentation, and/or sprouting. Soy also contains Trypsin inhibitors, which inhibit the protein digestive enzyme Trypsin. Without enough Trypsin…stomach cramps, diarrhea, bleeding, and future problems with the pancreas can develop. While the Chinese began fermenting the soy bean about 3000 years ago, for use as a condiment, many Asian countries continue the practice today…and partake as much as 2 teaspoons a day of highly fermented soy sauce. That’s right. Asians on average, ONLY EAT about 10grams…or 2 teaspoons of months long fermented soy a day, as a condiment to an otherwise extremely healthy diet. Not like American companies would have you believe, and insist on feeding you up to a 100 grams a day, of soy that is barely fermented, if at all, on top of an already highly processed and unhealthy diet full of grains and legumes. The human body was not designed to consume grains and legumes without days of preparation.
Hi Kyle,
What is your background? You seem very well informed. Have you watched Cowspiracy? Curious what you would think.
No, I have not watched Cowspiracy. Never even heard of it. My background is naval nuclear power, electronics, electrical, communication, and some mechanical. I have always been a science and math geek, and I thirst for knowledge. Most of my life, I’ve enjoyed studying biological evolution, chemical analysis, geological history, astrophysics, and more recently, nutritional and strength training.
I’ve spent the last 2 years researching the ideal total body workout program that would work for me (and I’m still playing with it, though I feel I’m close now, modifying it less frequently), along with how the human body works with different nutrients. I’ve always had a distrust for medicine, with 2 parents that are walking pharmacies, and until I was 31, the only medicine I’d ever taken was Nyquil. At 31, I took my first Tylenol due to an ear infection. First time I had pain I couldn’t deal with. What started my research was 2 things. I finally decided to research why the cooks stored eggs in part of the engine room (I was a submariner) instead of the fridge (that was an eye opener!). The other was I got tired of people slamming the Sun, meat, saturated fats, and egg yolk as bad. It didn’t make any sense. I knew that we all came from the sea, a sea full of protein and saturated fats. I knew that sunlight is the source of all life on Earth, and that we need the Sun to make Vitamin D…which is actually a hormone that affects every single cell in our body. I knew already from researching Harvard controlled studies that eating egg yolks either did nothing to cholesterol levels, or increased the good HDLs, along with providing the omega 3s that we need to actually use the protein. I knew that our stomachs are full of hydrochloric acid specifically designed as a medium for protein digestion, along with being a great defense against food borne pathogens. I knew that there is no way nature would create a life form that needed to be exposed to the sun to live, yet suffer from cancer by doing so. I knew that no life form would evolve utilizing protein, if digestion of such protein would be detrimental to its health. I knew that until the manufacture of supplements, there was no such thing as a human vegetarian…..never mind the completely moronic vegan. If I offend any vegans….good. I meant to. You’re either stupid or ignorant. One can be fixed, but you’re running out of time.
As a side note, for those who cite Hindus in India…consider that they got their animal nutrients through eating vegetables with insects and insect larvae, likely due to non pesticide use and inefficient cleaning methods. Hell, I find insects on my kale all the time. Takes really good rinsing to get them all out…and I still seem to find one per batch after making kale chips. Still not convinced? Well, it only came to light after studies were conducted to find out why Hindus moving to England started having B12 deficiency related illnesses. England is much more efficient at insect elimination on their produce.
I’ve learned tons about nutrition in the past 2 years, though it was slow going at first, with so much BS out there to sift through, and science is forever coming out with new discoveries. Unfortunately, big corporations also keep funding correlation studies that have nothing to do with science nor fact. Take the history of sunscreen. It began as tanning lotion, and only advanced to sunscreen with increasing SPF after skin cancer began increasing. Of course, no one thought that the cancer was likely coming from the chemicals in the lotion, combined with an increasingly nutrient deficient American diet. As the SPF increases, so does UVB blockage, which leads to potential skin cancer, as very little of the Vitamin D hormone is produced, all while UVA is still damaging your skin, and aging it. As long as you do not burn, the Sun is safe. When you start to turn pink, cover up. Over time, you’ll be able to stay out longer and longer without burning, and without any danger of skin cancer. I have only used sunscreen for 2 months of my life…about 2 years ago. Never again, though I have started using coconut oil as a moisturizer.
Grains, legumes, sugar and starches, have replaced nutrient dense foods in our diet. Corn, subsidized by the government, not only destroys our soil and will require years, if not decades, of mixed farming and/or crop rotation to restore, but requires massive amounts (many millions of tons) of nitrogen and phosphorus based fertilizers each year. This drains into the Mississippi River, creating an algae bloom that creates hypoxic water at the mouth of the Mississippi. The Gulf Of Mexico Dead Zone is several thousand square miles, varying in size from year to year, likely due to rainfall variations, though the overall trend seems to be increasing. In 2011, over 12 billion bushels of corn were produced in the U.S., and it takes an average of 4,000 gallons of water per bushel….and yet we have people worried about the amount of water used to grow almonds. I love almonds. Almond butter tastes and smells very much like peanut butter, which is a good thing for me, since I no longer eat peanuts. I’ll take almonds over corn any day of the week and twice on Sunday….though I do love Doritos.
Anyone know a way to make grain-free spicy nacho Doritos?
Excuse me, but B12 is not gotten from animal proteins, so your story is total bull about the Indians going to England and having deficiencies. You may seem like you’re totally credible because you use fancy words and type a lot, but I DO kbow what I am talking about. B12 is made by the body, and only naturally found in soil. Your body needs very, very little B12, and it can be stored for up to 30 years in the body. The only people who have deficiencies are the ones who have conditions such as thyroid cancer. You are wrong.
I think Wikipedia would beg to differ with you… – Neither fungi, plants, nor animals (including humans) are capable of producing vitamin B12. Only bacteria and archaea have the enzymes required for its synthesis, although many foods are a natural source of B12 because of bacterial symbiosis.
Bragg’s nutritional yeast has b12 in its as well as Bragg’s amino acids. Marmite also has b12. B12 is in meat. We do produce low amounts of b12 in our bodies.
Hi Kale, since you are such a science geek and do quite a bit of research, can you please enlighten us by letting us know where you studied that Hindus get their proteins from insects on veggies? You are a funny guy! 🙂
Gaurav and Albert ,
My sources as you requested for the Megaloblastic anaemia in a vegetarian Hindu community.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2865624
As you’ll notice….they give additional references and sources at the end of their findings.
Kyle you take yourself and your opinions way too seriously. You don’t know everything, sorry, nobody does. You accuse others of using the file drawer effect or picking and choosing studies, but you do the same. Really a study can be shown to produce any desired result, which is why industry based studies support industry. Even when that industry has been shown to cause harm, cigarettes for example. You have never heard of a cell phone company producing a study that shows that cell phones are possibly damaging to health. Objectivity in science is largely an illusion and at most is an ideal.
Furthermore you know nothing of “Hindu” diet. It uses clarified butter as a base for almost every dish and includes large amounts of milk and cheese. Your insect theory is laughable, yes some bugs are consumed as a result of vegetable consumption. B12 is generally found in healthy soil and places that wash foods maniacally lose much of the B12 with the rest of the soil.
Everyone’s body tells them what they need to eat, if they listen. You seem to be pretty in tune with yours and that is good. Some people are different from you and that doesn’t need to threaten you.
Its not a theory. It is established as part of the truth. The other part that goes along with it in this paragraph and I added a source to support it.. Research it yourself if you don’t like my sources. Modern agricultural methods have reduced the B12 in our soil to extremely low levels. While the gut bacterial in animals produce B12, unless you going to start eating your own feces, you need to eat another animal to get it, unless you take B12 supplements. Prior to chemically sanitizing our water supply, drinking from mountain streams and other natural water sources likely gave us plenty of B12 as well. Another study that is indicative of the Hindu Indians deals with just such a possibility.

There are many Hindu Indians that do not eat dairy products, and I assume these are the ones that the studies and articles were about. Generally, I would think a diet rich in dairy products would be B12 sufficient, and moving from India to England would not affect this unless they ate much less dairy than before. I am only pointing out what established studies have shown, and I have listed my sources. I tried to do so before now, but it took me awhile to realize I am not allowed to submit more than one source per comment, or at least not more than one source with an active link.
I don’t know whether to agree with you or not about listening to what your body tells you. I would say maybe its true, but most of don’t listen, and most of us don’t know how to listen. I had to do tons of research to sort out all the BS out there, find reputable and unbiased sources, and that takes time. I enjoy techno, dubstep, and other electronica. I’m 40 years old. If i want to continue to be able to jump up and down all night until I’m 80, I can’t be eating processed junk. I believe our bodies are perfect, and that other than the rare allergy, all human bodies are chemically the same. The only way to ruin our body is by ingesting crap through eating, drinking, and breathing, contamination through open wounds, or chemical contamination through skin absorption and/or UVB blockage, though the latter creates D3 deficiency, which is one of the worst ‘vitamins’ to be deficient in.
I don’t get offended by stupid factless idiots who can’t or won’t research the truth about the processed tampered foods you eat. It’s not safe. It’s not sustainable. It directly impacts humans rights and starvation because as much grain as it takes to feed one cow a year could feed and entire community. Also, the animals nevr live in natural environments. They eat GMO foods, and pesticides as well as being injected with two types of growth hormones, and antibiotics they don’t even need. You dear sir are the one who is racing towards death by consuming these poisons. Watch “Earthlings,” “Food Inc,” “Cowspiricy,” “GMO OMG,” Forks Over Knives,” and “The Best Speech Ever” by Gary Yourovsky. He will meat bash you all the way to hell and back. Grow a backbone and watch these documentaries if you have the guts. I hope one day you will no longer desire to abuse and neglect animals.
Hi Kyle, I don’t know if you will even see this because this post was written so long ago, but I really like your views and agree with you! It’s refreshing to finally find someone who talks about the science behind all these food myths, and stating facts. Most people just speak of their “opinion” without any knowledge or background information on the subject.
I’m just wondering if cashew milk is as good as almond milk or soy.
When i first stopped drinking milk and eating anything dairy, I switched to Almond Breeze! It is delicious, especially when you know ther are NO chemicals in it that can make you sick, have diaherria, ancne..etc all the ailments.. You can make smoothies, back cakes, cookies, and other doughs with nutmilks. I don’t drink alot of soy milk unless its been fermented first because of the dangers it can cause when non-fermented. The Almond Breeze Cashew Alomond/Vanillas are my favorits and my 6 year old LOVES THEM
Almond Breeze is processed garbage!
Pretending to be a “better version of milk!”
If you get cancer or a disease, don’t say I didn’t say so.
I think that a consideration should be given to our consumption of foods associated with milk, as an animal protein; cereals, grains, potatoes, starchy foods and often phytate heavy.
This article ticks some boxes and not just at. first glace and is a good subject to read around each time it comes up.
Xcellnt and informed comments all round helps when digging too ??
Milk doesn’t acidify the body’s pH level!! What kind of phony science is this?? Milk is alkaline. You might be thinking of meat, which isn fact an acidic food source…
It’s in the same way as lemon is acidic but has an alkaline effect on the body.
Victor, look on any P.H. chart. Milk is an acidic food. And they’re not at all the same as lemons, as mentioned by Karen. But she is correct, lemons are alkaline.
If you are going to make claims, you need to source your comments/findings just as Vivian has. Otherwise, you are challenging a claim that has no justification. It is also important to note that when you do source, make sure you are finding out who funded the research. There are plenty of firms that will be bought out to produce any findings to make the point of view favorable to the funding company.

It seems to me that you guys are vegans instead of bones community. You use the same fear strategies that animal food are always bad for human health. As somebody has already pointed out I would like to see the cientific evidences!
Did you check out any of the sources that Vivian has produced? She includes several names/links to give you the chance to review them. I think that’s fair.
Unfortunately, this is factual!!
They are all vegans, Jose.
This article was great and very informative. Not only are milking cows given antibiotics unnecessarily, this actually increases the chances that superbugs like golden staph will evolve. Dairy is certainly not meant for human consumption. Did you know that 2 days after the calves are born they are taken to be slaughtered as a waste product of the industry. Their mothers can be heard wailing for days afterwards. Not only is milk bad for your health, consuming it means that you are contributing to the exploitation of female reproductive tracts and the enforced separation of them from their babies, as well as contributing significantly to global warming as cows release methane which is 86 times more destructive to the environment than co2. Cow waste is polluting of our oceans, and it takes upwards of 1000 gallons of water to produce 1 gallon of milk. All over the world people don’t have enough clean water to drink and we 30% of the worlds fresh water is consumed by raising animals for food. If you are not vegan then you should be, for our health, the environment, the animals wellbeing and our future. As Albert Einstein once said, “Nothing would be more beneficial.”
Chelsea A. Your getting carried away. Humans are born meat eaters. Don’t tell people how to live their lives. The world’s already going to sh*t u think just because u don’t drink milk & eat meat ur making the world a better place? Are u kidding me? You might be patting yourself on your back but I’m not impressed. This post was written by someone like you, probably socially awkward, uptight & unpleasant to be around. Now imma go eat steak enjoy your rabbit food u dork
A bunch of FUCKING LIES!!
Listen, my family is in agriculture & cattle ranching.. never, NEVER BITCH! ARE 2 day old calves taken from their mothers.
The shit amends the soil and methane gas comes out of your fucking ass too…
TAKE YOUR BELITTLING VEGAN ASS AND PUT YOUR AIR FILLED HEAD ALL THE WAY UP IN THERE…. MAKE SURE NOBODY’S EXPLOITING YOUR REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM!
IM FUCKING SICK OF YOU PEOPLE! FUCK OFF BITCH!! hows that for politically correct?
Why are people saying this is not true? cos they want to drink milk and tell themselves it’s fine I suspect. Isn’t it common sense, a cow produces milk while pregnant for its baby. Humans arnt calves. The milk is full of hormones to turn the baby calf into a huge cow. Why would anyone want to be taking in an animals hormones?
QUIT FUCKING MAKING SHIT UP!!!!
COLOSTRUM IS WHAT YOU ARE REFFERING TO AND ITS AND ITS CREATED BY THE MAMMORY FOR THE FIRST 2 TO 4 DAYS. FURTHERMORE, IT HAS BEEN USED TO TREAT ALL KINDS OF HUMAN AILMENTS…
HOW DO I KNOW? MY VETRINARIAN GRANDFATHER REARED TENS OF THOUSANDS OF BEEF CATTLE
FUCK OFF…
Vegans…
Vegans everywhere in this article.
