March 2009 after a DEXA scan learned that I have osteopenia & osteoporosis in the small of the back (L1-L4), in one vertabrae it had just crossed the threshold of being severe. Was offered Fosomax and declined that, was informed that in 2 years another scan could be done, I said I did not want to wait 2 years & it was agreed that could have another in 1 year. Other than being offered the Fosomax (being warned of some of the side affects), was informed that weight bearing exercises such as walking was good. So went our searching on my own, have made some adjustments to my diet, taking cal/mag supplements, using progesterone cream, just started some core strengthing exercises. Have always done a lot of walking & am continuing that. The pain in the vertabra that has the severe osteoporosis has lessened a lot. Can wear a wrist watch again, before it was quite painful ( during the DEXA scan they did not included the wrist, which I learned since that it should have been). This was my 1st bone scan & am in my 50’s. Thank you, Vivian, for all the useful information for an alternative from prescription drugs & for this chance to win this special package.
I was diagnosed with osteopenia about 4 months ago. My doctor gave me a new drug that is inhaled. I took it one time and went to the web and found your program. I bought the book and have been doing proper food combining since then. I also had IB syndrone. Since I also stopped eating wheat and dairy. My IB is much better. Also, followed your advice and got wrist/leg weights for my 1 -3 mile daily walk. I will be retested in a couple months and am looking forward to hearing the results.
Just to clarify my posting below – I am concerned that this website is a “dot.com” website, versus a “dot.org” one. I urge you to register as a dot.org website to enhance your credibilty, Vivian. I have always been taught that any website that ends with “dot.com” is primarily commercial in nature… for the sake of the many people with bone density problems who are searching for a cure, I hope very much that your product really is the key to bone health…
Thanks you for providing this forum.
I just had a bone scan to discover I have quite a bone loss -3.6 in some areas. I was surprised as my job is very physical, I thought that would help with the fact I’ve never been a milk drinker. The Dr. wanted to put me on medacation right away but I do not like that idea so am looking for a better way.
Vivian, as I have explained to you previously, I was on a variety of osteoporosis drugs (Fosomax, Evista, and Boniva) for 10 years. At my last bone density test, my scores got worse and my doctor recommended Forteo or Reclast. At that point, I was very discouraged, didn’t want to go on the newly recommended drugs and happened to find your website. I was very intrigued and excited by your nutritional approach, so I am trying it. I have increased my consumption of fruits and vegetables to balance acidic foods. Since I was consuming a lot of milk, cheese and sweetened yogurt (thinking they were good for me), I have also given up dairy products from cows (I am drinking almond milk as you suggested). I am hoping to find out at my next bone density test in November that my scores have improved. In the worst case, even if they don’t improve, though I will be discouraged, at least I will have gained a more nutritious diet. As a side note, by following your recommended diet with so many fruits and vegetables, I think I have lost a few pounds without even trying to lose weight!
I have been taking biphosphonate medication (Didrocal) for osteopenia for about 10 years, with a steady decline in bone density to a point where I am very close to a diagnosis of osteoporosis. My doctor has recently put me on Actonel to slow this progression. I am not happy with this state of affairs. Since the women in my family tend to live into their late 90’s, and I am just 68, I need this body of mine to support me for another 30 years or so. I am just beginning an alkaline diet and am hoping for much better results than I have had with the medications. Thank you for making your information so accessible.
Hi. I have had a lot of medical problems over the years from hormone imbalance from birth control pills that did not work right, plus I had stage zero cancer/lumpectomy/radiation in 2004. All of this was from the wrong things going into my body and not absorbing things right. I also found out I was sensitive to gluten and casein(dairy) in 2004 and am on the GF diet. So it has been hard to know what to eat. I imagine since I have osteoporosis in my spine now, and osteopenia in my hip(recently diagnosed), this would be a great thing for me to try. I try to eat a lot of fruits/veggies, take a great liquid supplement, etc. but maybe still don’t have the right combination of acid/alkaline foods. I am very interested in this program. The doctor said Fosamax, but I don’t think so! Thanks a lot!
I am concerned about the number of emails that I have already received since initially signing up at this website one week ago. I truly hate to be a cynic, and would love to believe that this approach will work to reverse my osteopenia without the dreadful meds, but I question if this book/approach is of real medical benefit, or just one more way to prey upon and exploit people’s problems. I would certainly be willing to try it, but first need to know the actual price and also need to see an endorsement regarding the effectiveness of this program from a well-known medical professional or association (i.e. the National Osteoporosis Foundation). Thank you very much.
Anna O.
Hi Anna, I’m sure you’ll be glad to know that my work is endorsed by Dr. Robert Salter, a world-renowned orthopedic surgeon and scientist. But just as important is that the Save Our Bones program is helping thousands in our community increase their bone density naturally, without taking drugs, just like you heard in my interview with Pamela.
My doctor said, “You have osteoporosis. Here’s a prescription for Fosamax. If you don’t take this and break your hip in a fall, you will probably only live no more than 17 months.” (By the way, had the doctor looked at page 2 of my bone density report, he would have seen the diagnosis was “osteopenia.)
I asked about side effects of Fosamax. “If you follow the instructions for taking it, no problems. Maybe a little GERD, but we have medications for that. (With their own side effects, no doubt.)
On the way home from his office, I picked up the Fosamax sheet at the pharmacy. Then came the internet search. Although I was fairly certain I would NOT take the drug, when I saw the info on osteonecrosis, that did it.
When I found The Bone Revolution website, I ordered the book and began the program as soon as I received it.
I am so grateful there is a natural way to rebuild my bones. And how delightful to be 79 years old and still take NO prescription medications. Thank you, Vivian.
P.S. I told my sister-in-law about it and she is now on the program. I have been asked to give a talk about it to the residents of the retirement facility where I live. That will come after my next bone density test!
I have just recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis and just a few days before I found out I was informed by my chiropractor that I must not take any of the drugs offered by the physician. I then began to search the web to study the affects of all the drugs offered for osteoporosis and decided that my chiropractor was correct in his assessment.
I have also been searching the web to discover how I might “fix” this on my own. I stumbled across your information and have been reading about your information and what you have to offer. I would very much like to try what you have to offer in your book but the only thing holding me back is money.
I am 55 years old and know that I must start doing something quickly in order to restore my bones but I just cannot seem to commit to such a large amount of money for 1 book. I would like very much to read your book and try your suggestions for osteoporosis. I am looking forward to Tuesday to see if I will be able to afford the package.
I would like to thank you for putting your information out to the public to offer an alternative from what the medical profession offers. Thank you.
Hello, Vivian ~
Three years ago my son, now 18, suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. He was tubing and was hit in the head with a jet ski. It’s been a long three years of rehab and he has come above and beyond any expectations in his recovery. Recently he had a bone density scan and it showed that he has severe osteoporosis. Needless to say, when they recommended Fosamax, I started doing research for alternative treatments, especially due to his age. I am anxiously awaiting the release of your celebration package. Better yet, I would love to be the lucky winner of the Speceial Release. Either way, I look forward to educating myself for my son’s sake and for his continued recovery and safer bones.
Thank you for your consideration.

I’m very interested in your program as I’m told I have osteopenia and the doc wants me to get on Foxamax (I know enough to know better!), but have held off purchasing anything, feeling I just can’t afford it. After two years of unemployment, I finally got a job I love, close to home, and now may have to leave it. I won’t know for sure until after an open lung biopsy, but my pulmonary specialist thinks I may have hypersensitivity pneumonitis. The cough and fatigue and shortness of breath I’ve been experiencing are from sensitivity to chemicals (VOCs) in the workplace and further exposure is out of the question! The shortness of breath is so extreme I’m unable to get any exercise from walking or anything. So bone-building through diet control is my only option right now.
Here’s hoping I win! 🙂
Hello Vivian,
I have been following your dietary advise for six months after giving up taking Fosamax for six months. I haven’t had a bone density test yet to test my bone density improvement, but I’m optimistic that, like Pamela, I’ll be rewarded for my efforts. I’m also hoping that my high cholesterol may have lowered as an added bonus.
Here’s hoping!! Sincerely, Diane Fuleihan
I began having problems with a bridge in my mouth. This lead me to begin to question the drug (fosomax) I was on when the surgeon would not remove a tooth. I had been on actonol and fosomax for about 6 years and had also developed pain in my knee. It was suggested I stop taking the medication and wait for the surgery. After only 2 weeks the pain in my knee disappeared. I then began researching drugs, etc. in more depth which brought me to your web site. I guess I have to say, I see hope. I am trying to avoid all types of medication and hope your “method” proves to be a solution.
Having read Pamela’s story, I would say mine is more “Inspired” than “Inspirational”. I was born with a malformed and dislocated hip and then had polio’ at the age of 18 months, so my bones have had 56 years of coping with more stress than some, but cope they have. I have missed out on nothing. Purely by chance, when visiting a new dentist for a check-up, I decided, on a whim, to have my bone density checked – at a “bargain price”- by the Chiropractor sharing the surgery. Having had no problems, other than those caused by age and 3 hip replacements on my dodgy side, I was confident that my bones would be fine.
The man doing the scan on my wrist, did a comic double take, said he thought it was wrong and that he would do it again. He did. It wasn’t wrong and I then started down the referrals road which lead to the specialist’s diagnosis of osteoporosis in my spine and my “good” hip.
He offered the usual calcium supplement, bisphosphonates and HRT. Lovely as he was, I had to decline, as I try not to take anything containing animal derivatives or which has been tested on animals. I began increasing calcium-containing foods and taking a Vegan-approved calcium tablet. I also persuaded my Husband to let us have a dog – as I am extremely lazy and can see no reason for walking unless it is wandering round shops or walking with a dog – so my exercise levels increased 100 per cent.
18 months on, a follow-up scan revealed deterioration in my spine and 3 of the 4 measurements in my hip. Other measurements showed that I had lost quite a bit of weight – and grown 4 mm in height! (Every cloud…)
This time the dear specialist was desperate for me to go onto HRT. Unfortunately he tried to tell me that the drugs”didn’t hurt the animals” they were tested on, definitely not the way to try to get me to change my mind. I know how cruel the animal testing is.
So, I agreed only to investigate all his suggestions plus the alternatives – and that is how I arrived on Vivian’s site. Totally inspired and hopeful.
It is so great to know that I am not alone in wanting to improve my condition without endless drugs.
Thank you Vivian and thank you Pamela.
Good luck and strong bones to you all.
Luv Jan D.
I was diagnosed with osteoporosis many years ago, at least nine and have been on Fosamax ever since. My last bone scan showed that I had improved I was told to keep on with the treatment and not to have any more scans! I am not happy about this and have never been happy taking Fosamax and Calcium, especially for so long. I have read with interest about your new book and look forward to it.
I’ve recently been diagnosed with osteoperosis (via a DEXA scan) and been prescribed Fosomax and a calcium/vitamin D supplement. I’ve researched the internet and found your website and details on the bad effect of the drug and the good effect of a diet change. I spoke to my doctor yesterday but she is sceptical and advises me to stay on the drug or my bones will suffer! What I want to know is can I do both? Will the drug interfere with the beneficial effects of a change of diet? Will I be worse off if I give up the drug? I’m in a quandry! My doctor has said there are a lot of people willing to take my money for their advice but ‘it’s not proven that alternative methods (i.e. drug free) work’. So can anyone tell me more please – I’d rather not take the drugs but I’m worried my situation will get worse if I don’t…
Even though I have been doing everything possible to increase my bone density for the past year; eating correctly, exercising with weights three times per week and refusing every drug that I have been offered, I’m still losing density. May 2008 I had lost 9% on my hips and 5% on my spine in one year. Six months later I had lost 9% from my spine and 4% from my hips. I left my husband two years ago and the stress of trying to get my life back together on my own, I think has played a big part in this. But I refuse to give up and am continuing with the diet. Although I will be putting off having another test for some time, because if I don’t start to improve, I don’t know what I’ll do. I’m sorry that it couldn’t be a better story. Thanks for trying to help. Mary.
In Feb 2008 I had my second Dexa Scan – It showed that in 5years and 3 months I had gone from being on the boarder of having Osteopenia (just) right into Osteoporosis. I did not want to take medication and found Save our bones. Then in the June 2008 my doctor called me in to see her – I was told how silly I was, I was told the scary statistics – that 1 in 5 people who breaks their hip is dead within a year. and more. I was terrified anmd for a few weeks gave in and took the meds. But it so went against my inner feelings that I had to go back to the Bone health way.
I have not had another DEXA scan yet – but I will ask in Feb 2010 – so it will be 2 years. But I believe my results will be outstanding.
I am only 45 now – this is my life and I can make choices
Thank you
On my 50th birthday I decided that I needed a thorough health check and also asked for a bone density scan because my mother and grandmother had osteoporosis. The result was good but I was told to have another scan three years later. In the following three years I started with severe hot flushes then my period stopped but I decided I didn’t want to take HRT and I would let nature take it course. Due to illness in the family and the deaths of both my Mum and my Mother in Law I forgot about the bone density scan and didn’t arrange it until four years after the first one. I wasn’t particularly worried as I keep fairly fit – I dance and go to gym regularly, walk a lot and eat healthily. When I had the scan and went back to my doctor for the results I was horrified to find that I had osteoporosis and was referred to the hospital because it is in my spine and I was told I was in great danger of getting compression fractures. They informed me that I would be ok if I broke my wrist or my ankle because they could put them in plaster but if I broke my spine they couldn’t do anything for me. The scare tactics worked. Initially I was given Strontium which didn’t suit me at all. I was told that Bonviva would probably suit me and that I would need to have infusions every three months for two years. I have to have infusions because of my history of stomach ulcers. I felt ok after the first one but the second made me feel really unwell. I was given a leaflet after the first infusion explaining what the drug was. I wasn’t at all happy when I read about the risk of necrosis of the jaw especially for people with poor dental health as I fall into that category. After a visit to my dentist and her reaction I was even more concerned. She said that if I need to have a tooth extracted she wouldn’t be able to see me and would have to refer me to the hospital. She said that she wished that doctors would ask patients to see their dentists before they started on these medications. I just wished they had asked me how my dental health was and given me the information so that I could have made my decision based on that. I started to look on the internet for alternatives and came across your website. I look forward to reading your emails to catch up with the latest information. I have a hospital appointment on 28th July and will be informing them that I do not want any more Bonviva and that I am getting your book and will be following your programme – especially now I know that people get such fantastic results. I told my GP I am going to do this and wanted to know if he would send me for a bone density scan when I had been following your plan for a year. He told me that it was generally done every three years so I am not sure how I will be able to find out if my bone density is increasing. I am so confident in you that I am willing to give it a try anyway and will keep you informed when I can check if it is working for me. At least I can take comfort that I am doing the best I can for myself and staying away from those nasty chemicals!
I’m 31 years old and was diagnosed with osteoprosis when I was 28, I suffered 10 years of eating disorders, with brought this about.
I have had two bone scans since & there still has been no change with increasing desity, even though Im vegan and eat a alkaline diet.
I must be doing some thing wrong?
I’ve stayed off the meds terrified off taking them, i was also told by the docs that I can still build new bone up to the age of 35. I’m still in a state of confusion as the doctors cant explain anything or seem to help in anyway, all the want to do is dish out the chemicals, with out looking at the whole person, diet , lifestyle etc. Because of how delicate my bone are at my age, I am so frighenend of having children too, I do live in fear since I was diagnosed, especially of falling over, I feel like a old women, I feel I don’t have much of a life anymore, mind you I did bring this on myself! blesings to all!
Hi Julie, When I was first diagnosed the doctor told me that my not having had any children could be one of the factors causing my osteoporosis. He said that when you are pregnant, the foetus takes all of its calcium requirements from the mother’s body and her body then replenishes its calcium stocks. So someone like me has old calcium in their bones, whereas Mums have newer calcium. How true this is – or whether I misunderstood what he was saying – I don’t know, but someone should be able to discuss whether having children would make your bone density any worse or not.
Good luck – it seems there are quite a few of us here in the UK who don’t want to take the Doc’s words – or their pills – without thinking.
Luv Jan D.
I had four children in as many years and still have osteoporois Jan D so I think your doctor’s theory didn’t work for me!
You sound like you are quite stressed. A doctor told me that stress also eats away at your bones and meditating was a good way of overcoming this.
how much will cost if u decided to join and try your program
I was diagonsed with Osteoporosis two years ago and Dr prescribe me Didronel but Dr did not tell me the side effects of this. After two years my bone density went down and DR prescribed Actonel but I decided not to take the medicine and I start searching on the internret and found out through SAVE OUR BONESthat I can increase my bone density without the medicine and side effects.Thank you Vivian.
I have been treated with bone medicatiion for over 10 years and still my bone density has been decreasing. I am 69 years old and my last density scan of the spine was -2.7. I am genetically very high risk for osteoporosis. I stopped all medication in Dec. 08. I read the Bone Health Revolution in Feb. while vacationing in Florida and have attempted to follow the food plan since then. I do plan to continue and am hopeful that there will be some improvement with my next BMD. I have not talked with my family Dr. about this but I did discuss it with an Environmental Specialist who is very supportive.
I drink reverse osmosis filtered water only and I think this is recommended.
I will be happy to receive and read any and all new information on making the Alkaline/Acid diet even more simple.
This is all very exciting and most interesting.
I’ve just written a long paragraph but it’s disappeared.
since 1990 I have been having bone density tests as advised by doctor as my mother has severe osteoporosis. When I refused hrt medication, the specialist advised I would need to increase my calcium intake. It felt like I was only taking in calcium! And what a problem one gets from the calcium supplements!!
I also walked heaps for the exercise but alas, I was diagnosed with osteopena, so embarked on an intensive muscle strengthening programme in addition to the calcium and a year later had the diagnosis of osteoporosis and the script for evista. Took it for 3 months with the side effects and then found your site so quit the evista! Trying to follow an alkalizing diet but…. and now, don’t drink the water!! I need a constant intake of water in order to keep functioning… so maybe I am doomed by my genes as the doctor thinks!! thanks for the opportunity to win your package to give a more thorough try to your ideas. G. in Australia!
I too was on Boniva but was having problems with it. So I went off the drug and started drinking less coffee and now drinking more milk. The next year I went from Osteosperosis to Osteopenia and was thrilled. However, 2 years later it is back to Osteosperosis and less than it was in the beginning. I just ordered the book and am half was thru it. I am hoping to turn it around thru exercise and eating right. Thanks for all your help!
About 2 month ago I was diagnosed with ostopenia. My family Dr.
wanted to treat it with drugs but I decided to learn more before starting to take drugs. This how I came to Vivian’s “the bone health revolution”.
I read all the emails you sent me and I decided to buy the package.
Thank you very much for all your advice.
It would be very nice to win the package.
Sincerely Yours
Rosemary
My friends kept reminding me that I better get my bone density test done as they had two or three tests already. I had to convince my ob-gyn doctor that it was time for my bone density test although she firmly believed 15 years past menopause was the normal time for this test.
Well, needless to say a message was left on my home recorder by my ob/gyn, I had Osteoporosis. I have exercised for years, even taught aerobics, took vitamins with calcium and ate healthy. I could not believe I had this so called disease. I began reading as much as I could and talked to my ob/gyn and my regular doctor. They really didn’t answer my questions and even contradicted one another. It was frustrating. Unfortunately, I did start taking Fosamax for a year, but after talking to a more specialized doctor in depth she actually told me that I could defer treatment with the drug until I had another test at age 60. Since then I have tried to do more weight bearing exercises, eat even more healthy and basically do the best I can on a natural level.
Pamela well done, I hope I can be as proud of myself as you must be.
After tripping over a small mat and breaking a bone in my foot my doctor decided I should have a bone density test as I had also had 2 previous spinal operations. Well you could have knocked me over with a feather it was -2.8 I just didn’t think it was in the cards.
Naturally the doctor perscribed Actonel and told me of all possible side effects, then the pharmacist told me of the side effects. Home I toddled with Actonel in hand but worried about what I had been told. It was then I searched the interent for more information and came across the “Save our Bones” web site. That was the best thing I ever did. I also followed Vivians advice on ankle weights to help with weight brearing exercise as I believe my inability to do much exercise has been a big contributing factor. Needless to say the Actonel was never taken.
To keep to the 20/80 I have to be stern with myself but I know once I have improved my bone density I look forward to the 40/60 as I find that a breeze.
I will not be having another BD test for a while but I think I can organise the balloons and get ready for the celebration as I firmly believe my BD will have improved thanks to Vivian.
Thank you Vivian and good luck to all

I was diagonised with osteopenia in April of 2009 and immmediately the doctor gave me a precription for Didronel (which I never took). He did not explain any of the possible side effects.I started to search on the internet about the side effects and was horrified . I knew I was NOT going to put these terrible life alterating drugs into my body. But what could I do to help my bone health ? Then, I came across Vivian’s book “The Bone Health Revolution”.I was very interested because I believe in natural cures for an unhealthy body but I wasn’t quite sure at this point what to do !
However, after reading all I could find out from Vivian and the testimonials from many many people, who have used Vivians natural methods, I am convinced that I too am going to get the “Special Release Celebration Package” that is going to be offered on July 21st at 11AM ET.
It would be a wonderful and appreciated surprise if I were to be the one to win this “life-changing” gift. I want to be able to become more “bone healthy” each day . I can see that doctors are on the side of Pharmaceutical companies and not looking out for us as individuals…we must take responsibility for our own health and with Vivians help we will succeed.Thank You ..sincerely Barbara
After breaking an ankle climbing a large butte in a Utah state park, I was advised to have a dexa bone scan which revealed a femoral hip score of -3.9. Since I did not choose to take hormones, they advised Fosamax in 1999. For 10 years I took it trying to quit for the last several years. Two doctors said it was keeping me stable.
Several weeks ago, I went to Mayo Clinic for spinal issues and was sent to an endocrinologist for a bone consult. After the doctor examined 4 of my bone scans in detail, he advised me to quit Fosamax for at least 6 months, then try the daily injections of Forteo, at $1,000.00 per month, with side-effects of nausea and headaches. This cure is supposed to be the only thing that builds bone, according to this doctor. However, THE CURE SOUNDS WORSE THAN THE DISEASE so I am actively searching for a less invasive and costly solution.
Do you have it?
I was diagnosed with osteoporosis 7 years ago and have been taking Actonel since then. I am so frightened about taking this medicine and that is what attracted me to your site. i have been trying to follow your recommendations but I have not yet given up on the Actonel. You see, about three years ago, I stopped taking the Actonel when I heard about the possibility of osteocronosis of the jaw. The next DEXA scan I had showed that my condition had worsened and they wanted me to take Forteo. I said no and started looking for alternatives. Your site has given me hope and I would really like to learn more. Thank you so much for helping all women with this awful disease.
I was diagnosed with osteoporosis many years ago at which time the Dr. ordered Fosamax. I tried taking it on 3 different occasions and every time I had the same reaction-BP went thru the roof and my heart felt like it was turning summersaults in my chest. My Dr. would not believe it was a reaction to the medicine. I wrote the company and they also said the reaction could not be from the Fosamax. I had never had that reaction before or since. So ever since I have tried to help my bones by taking calcium, magnesium, Vit D3, and other minerals and have refused to try any other RX for osteoporosis. I am 69 yr old. Both my parents had osteoporosis and suffered broken bones in later years before passing away at ages of 96. Thank you for listening. NS
Dear Vivian,
I heard Pamela speaking. I am very happy for her. As I told you before I took fosamax for 7 yrs without any improvement. I stopped it on my own for 8mo now, I take ezorb & i walk on & off. I need to look at my diet. needs to consume less Chorbs. I will get my bone density in Nov.I thank you for all who read & followed yourbook. Thanks & God bless you for your kindness & motivation to find the truth for the world.

10 years ago, at age 43, I was told I had osteoporosis. I thought this was odd, since I was running consistently at the time and had been doing strength training on and off for years, plus I was an avid skiier and bike rider. My doctor put me on Fosamax. After a while I developed a severe, persistent cough which was finally diagnosed as a form of acid reflux which I now believe was caused by taking Fosamax. I was then put on Nexium and was taking it in addition to the Fosamax. The combination of the drugs gave me horrible stomach problems – nausea, violent stomach upsets and vomiting which occurred like clockwork each time I took the Fosamax (weekly) yet none of my doctors had cautioned me against taking these medications together. After doing some internet research, I learned that others have had similar reactions to the combination of the two drugs, so I went off the Fosamax for several years.
Recently, my new ob-gyn suggested that I try once-a-month Boniva. I was reluctant due to my past experiences, but decided to try it because my bone tests seemed to show worsening osteoporosis. I’ve been taking it for a little over a year, and the test results showed some improvement, but I still didn’t like the idea of taking this powerful medication for the rest of my life. So again I went to the internet and found this website. After reading Vivian’s summary of the research, I have decided to go off of Boniva and try the natural approach. Menopause is a natural part of the life cycle and I agree with the wisdom of working with nature, rather than trying to fight it with powerful and potentially dangerous drugs. I am renewing my focus on exercise and diet and am optimistic about going “drug free”.
Thank you for sharing this information with us. How unfortunate that I was not able to get this from any of my doctors!
I enjoyed hearing the good news from Pamela Ward and I am looking forward to learning more about the bone health revolution and how it will help me. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with Osteopenia and when I went to a new Gynecologist last year, she prescribed Evista for me, which I tried for a couple of months, but it made my night sweats so unbearable that I quit. This year I went for another bone density test and now I have Osteoporosis and my Gynecologist wanted me to start on Fosamax, Boniva, or something similar, but I had already researched how bad the side affects were and what it could do to my body. I told my doctor’s assistant over the phone that I wanted to try exercise and diet to help my osteoporosis and she said that mainly walking was the best. Three days later, I received a form letter from my doctor stating that I refused the recommended treatment and to sign and return it for my patient file. I have not signed this and I will be looking for another Gynecologist to go to next year. This is what led me to Vivian’s site and an alternative that followed my beliefs. I shared this information with my 5 sisters and 2 of them also have Osteoporosis and plan on following your Bone Health information. Thank-you so much for offering an alternative and I am looking forward to an improvement in my bone density.
I’m 61 and a year ago I was diagnosed with osteoporosis and my T-score is less than 3.7. My alternative M.D. has me taking D3, DHEA, Algaecal, Strontium and considered putting me on Forteo but I didn’t really want to take any prescription medicaiton. My labs came back and I’m not a candidate for Forteo. I ordered your book and I’m walking an hour each day and eating calcium rich foods. My doctor is monitoring my hormones to be sure they are balanced. My T-score is improving and I’m hoping for a great improvement with my next bone density test in December. Looking forward to the new info in your new book.
I am very interested in pursuing the ideas presented in the Bone Health Revolution, but have concerns because my T-score is -3.7. I’m afraid that I will not improve enough using the balance of alkaline and acidifying foods, increasing my intake of calcium, and exercising. I would be interested to know your thoughts.
I have always been active, slim and careful with my diet. In fact my degrees are in public health. I was surprised to find at a women’s health fair through a heel bone scan that I was losing bone density. As I began to research this area, I began to learn a lot. For instance I had for some years increased by calcium intake but did not know I needed to supplement that with magnesium. I also did not realize that increasing Vitamin D intake well over the 400 mg RDA was a good idea not just for bone health but for health in general. I have decreased some foods linked with bone depletion and increased those that are bone building, and for the last 11 months have been taking also a brown seaweed supplement which has been showing promising results in some studies. I have also increased my exercise level and added more workouts with weights. Most of the work I have done to date has not shown improvements in density, but I have not had a scan since taking the brown seaweed supplements so I am hoping I might see improvement soon. I have refused to use any of the drugs touted to improve bone density and have found an endocrinologist who is willing to work with me in trying more natural methods. I have long been skeptical of drugs promoted to women; I early on cautioned against HRT, for example, and was eventually proved right. I do think working with our natural defenses rather than going against them is the best path towards improved health.
After several years on Fosamax and 2 years on Forteo, I improved my score by 20%. After reading your emails, I decided I don’t want to pollute my body with these vile chemicals any more and told my doctor I was quitting the Forteo he put me back on. He said, he understood that I wanted to try it without Fosamax and he said it fully expecting that I would go back on Fosamax. I am determined to improve my score at least another 20% in order to prove to myself and show the doctor it can be done. I look forward to reading your books and literature to see how it can be done.
I am 57 and have osteoporosis! My mother was in her late 70’s when she was diagnosed – and only as a consequence of having to have a chest x-ray in the ER. Her spine quickly deteriorated; within 3 years, she had developed kyphosis (fractures of the vertebrae and eventual curvature of the spine), despite the endless regimen of pharmaceuticals (none of which ever really agreed with her). Before her passing, her physician was considering Forteo injections, but my mother did not have the hand dexterity to self-inject.
Both my parents were from England, and my ancestry hail from northern Europe. We are tall and relatively slim – prime candidates for poor bone health bone health. Once my mother was diagnosed with osteoporosis, I immediately set up an appointment with my physician for a bone scan. With the disappointing news that I, too, had osteoporosis, I dutifully began taking Fosamax.
Then I came across the Bone Health Revolution Guide online. It was frightening at first, but then, reassuring, to read how I could make a few conscious changes in my food habits and exercise routine to maximize my bone health without precription drugs. My physician was hesitant to allow me to go off the Fosamax, as you can well imagine, but I am determined to avoid the sad situation my mother confronted in her later years. Thank you!
I am a 39 year old woman who was diagnosed with osteopenia when I was 32 years old. I had an eating disorder when I was a teen, which likely led to my bone density problems. When I was diagnosed my ob-gyn insisted I start Fosomax. I filled the prescription and took one dose. That night I researched the long-term effects of this drug, and I noticed the lack of research on effects of taking this medication when so young. I promptly threw away the rest of the pills and decided to rely on diet and exercise. I have since been taking vitamins, eating well, and exercising regularly. I continue to maintain the same T score as when I was 32 along with the diagnosis of Osteopenia. I have a new GP who did a bone density scan and again is encouraging me to take Fosomax. I told her no, but agreed I’d reconsider next year. I have no plans to do so as long as I remain in the Osteopenia (vs Osteopeorosis) range. I appreciate your emails and encouraging notes. Thanks.
I do not know if this is two different places but I am interested in geting your information. Finishing what the library had and the information from newsletter saying the same thing you are but not to the extent you are I would guess. About osteopaoosis I lilke the suggestion of getin an issue in the library. I even tried the book store and your book was not avaible. I will still encourage friends but I know for sure I like my decision even if I have to do it alone and if it is right or wrong.I like the challenge and hope it works to encourage my friends. I do not win most times w/extra but fun trying and feel like a winner just to learn what i have since 6/6/09 and just in time for me to make the decision not to even start. Happy for who ever wins. Sure would like a hint at the cost so I can make sure money is avaible. Do you call or go on internet to try to buy book on Sun July 19 @ 11:59 pm ET. Thank you, Elaine
I started taking Fosamax when it was first made available. No idea how long ago that was, but, it did nothing to improve my bone density. In fact the last 2 bone density tests showed a decline. After reading about the possible sie effects of the drug I stopped taking it.
I’ve recently returned to a straight vegan diet increasing fruits and vegetables. I have no idea what effect this has had on my bones. But, I’m hoping it is helping me climb out of the Osteoporosis range.
My doctor is insisting I go back on Fosamax but I’m still dragging my heels on that….
One last thing, I’ve always had paper thin fingernails and they are becoming very strong which fascinates me……
Well my story is a little long but,its started when i was carrying my first child. I started having one abscess after another. Several of which ate through many layers of bone. Normally your bone regenerates and i had no idea mine wasn’t. When i was 47 i was told by my dentist when i went in for a loose crown that i shouldn’t bite into anything harder than bread because all the teeth in my upper jaw were about to fall out of my head. My Oral surgeon ended up doing two bone grafting’s and eight implants and more surgeries than i can count. After $60,000 out of pocket because the insurance company decided that this was cosmetic. The whole process took three and a half years. Then about one year later i had to go back for a root canal in my lower jaw that had gone bad again(never new once you had one it could go bad again). Well they couldn’t get the infection to go away. I lost two of my lower molars and was in the hospital with yet again another surgery. One week later i came home with a see through hole in my lower jaw and permanent nerve damage. Around one year later i had they did an ex-ray and my bone once again was not going back in to fill the whole. so when someone says do you have a whole in your head i can honestly laugh and say yes. After the infection had gone through my body i ended up with a pain management doctor who told me i had Fibromyalgia and was tested and had severe restless leg syndrome. Somewhere along the way i also found out i had a torn SI joint. I asked my doctor to do a bone density test and it came back saying i had Osteopenia. He put me on Fosmax not asking my history with all my dental problems or explaining the horrible side effects. I took it for a year regardless of the side effects because i was so worried about my bones not regenerating. Then i went to see my Oral surgeon and he noticed i was taking Fosamax and told me to stop taking it immediately. I’m worried because i have learned that it say attached to your bones for up to ten years. I also ended up having a total hysterectomy and they tried unsuccessfully putting in a spine stimulator to help with the nerve damage. I went from not taking any medications to in the last seven taking more medications then i even like to think about. Going through all of this has been very depressing to say the least. I look forward to getting me back someday, i hope with your help. Thanks for listening. Sincerely, Sherie
Oh Sherie, my heart goes out to you. I hope you get you back soon. Good luck and God bless.
You poor girl! I hope you win the package – sounds like you could do with some good info’ and a back-log of luck.
Fingers crossed for you.
Love Jan D.
waiting to see a hint of price before the time comes to buy. Is the sales by phone or internet. Thanks and good luck to all who want to stay of medication.
Hi,
I am 54 years old and was just diagnosed with oestoporosis. Two years ago I was at the oestopenia stage but now, it is different. My gynecologist prescribed Fosamax but since I am not trusting chemical prescription, I decided to search the web on a more natural way of dealing with my bone health. My gynecoligist did not have the previous results (2 years ago) – those results are at my GP’s office.
After discussing the 2 years ago results vs now results with my GP, we both decided to wait a year and go through another bone density test to see the results.
I have good eating habits, lots of vegetables, but I have not been so good the last few years due to additional stress in my life.
By having such results, I am back to good eating habits and learning as much as I can about naturally reversing the results.
Louise,
I have osteoporosis and have unfortunately acquired a compression fracture in my thoraric spine.
My story is unusual because I am under 25 years old: my poor bone health is the result of anorexia nervosa, which I suffered from throughout my teens.
I consider myself fully recovered from anorexia, but it has cast a shadow over my future, leaving me frail. I am desperate to do all that I can to strengthen my bones and prevent any further fractures.
At such a young age, I really want my health back. I want my youthfulness back. I want my life back.
