How about a “retired” flying nun, Sally Field, touting the benefits of Boniva (ibandronate), the first once-a-month bisphosphonate? Take a look at one of the ads for Boniva below:
Partial Transcript
“I always thought that calcium, vitamin D, and exercise would be enough to keep my bones healthy. Boniva works with your body to help stop and reverse bone loss… I was able to stop and reverse my bone loss, and studies show that after one year on Boniva, nine out of 10 women did too. I’ve got this one body and this one life, so I wanted to stop my bone loss. Ask your doctor if Boniva is right for you.”
So I decided to create my own ad for Boniva… but with a big twist
You see, my Boniva ad actually tells the truth. So now, without further ado, here is my new and accurate Boniva advertisement starring Sally Field:
Sally Field is sitting on her patio couch wearing white jogging pants and a blue t-shirt, her legs curled up on the seat. On top of a small coffee table in front of her, there is a thick and dried-up tree branch and a thin twig. As Enya’s inspiring “Only If” plays softly in the background, she says:
“I always thought that osteoporosis was a disease, and when I was diagnosed with it, my doctor told me that ONLY once-a-month Boniva could reverse my bone loss. At first I believed my doctor, but soon after – fortunately before filling my prescription – I discovered that he was wrong. I read on the internet that osteoporosis is not a disease and that there is a natural and drug-free way to reverse it. I was surprised to learn that Boniva can actually do more harm than good…”
Now there is silence, except for the music crescendo, as Enya sings “If you really want to, you can hear me say; only if you want to will you find a way.” Sally sits up straight and crosses her legs. The music volume is lowered and Sally goes on:
“Taking Boniva makes your bones more prone to fracture, and here’s why this happens. Exactly like its main competitors, Fosamax, Actonel, and Reclast, Boniva works against natural bone metabolism.
You see, Boniva binds to the bone matrix and stops normal bone resorption by inhibiting bone cells known as osteoclasts. Bone resorption is a necessary process to have strong and healthy bones because osteoclasts remove old bone to make space for new healthy, and more resilient bone tissue to be deposited in its place.
As a result of taking Boniva, new bone formation is greatly depressed, and your bones become old and dried-up with long-term accumulation.”
Sally picks up the thick branch and holds it in front of her with outstretched arms
“If you really want to you can seize the day”, Enya sings… Sally smiles and cracks the branch in half and holds the broken pieces in her hands:
“Take a look at this old and dried-up branch and notice how easily I split it in half. That’s exactly what happens to your bones: because Boniva stops your bones from renewing themselves naturally, they look thicker but become brittle.
This detrimental process takes a couple of years, and that’s why scientific studies showing density improvement when taking Boniva focus mainly on short-term results. Even though bone volume does not increase, bone is more densely packed and looks denser. But this stops after a while.
Like you, I want to reverse osteoporosis, but I don’t want to get fooled by a synthetic drug that offers short-sighted help. And what’s more, unlike my doctor, I believe that bone quality is more important than quantity. After all, my goal is to prevent fractures…”
Sally places the broken branch on the table and takes the thin twig in her hands. She tries to crack it, but it is flexible and instead of breaking, it gracefully bends. She continues:
“Now watch how this thinner but young and healthy twig resists breakage. Of course, you want your bones to be like it. So next time your doctor recommends Boniva, feel free to ignore him like I did, and opt for a natural and drug-free way to strengthen your bones.”
The music stops.
Sally gets up and walks away
The screen becomes black and a large Poison warning sign appears with a disclosure that reads:
“Even though this drug has been approved by the appropriate government agency to treat, cure, and prevent osteoporosis, you are basically on your own. Neither the agency nor healthcare practitioners, the latter with very few exceptions, care if you will suffer side effects when taking Boniva. After all, it’s a numbers game.
Moreover, the agencies involved can ignore new research showing detrimental effects of this drug, and even if those are confirmed, may simply issue a warning. Also, you must remember that the makers of Boniva have a lot more money than you, by the billions, and can therefore successfully fight any lawsuit by hiring the best lawyers.”
This remains visible on the screen while a woman’s voice is heard saying:
“If you are looking for a short-term osteoporosis ‘quick-fix’ and still want to take a chance with Boniva, please note that you are risking the following side effects, many of which may be irreversible: nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence, diarrhea, severe constipation, inflammation and ulceration of the esophagus, chest pain, heartburn, difficulty swallowing, skin rash, eye problems including vision loss and blurred vision, generalized pain of the muscles, joints, and/or bones, decreased mobility of joints, blood clotting disorders, anemia, dental problems, numbness, tight muscles in the face, seizures, irritability and unusual thoughts and behaviors, altered taste, atrial fibrillation, jaw pain, osteonecrosis of the jaw.
Additionally, as is the case with all bisphosphonate drugs, Boniva interferes with Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) production, an essential antioxidant that performs many important functions in the body. To find out more about how Boniva can ruin your life, please call the toll-free information line at 1-800-4NO-LIES.”
The screen fades to black.
Now that would be truthful advertising. As always, let me know what you think by leaving a comment below.

I have severe osteoporosis. I have had several very hard fall’s and not broken anything which is hard to understand. I took Atonel for several year’s then quit for a year then I took Foximax for a few months and switched back to Atonel and now nothing. I am 64 and clean houses so I have to carry alot of heavy stuff around everyday. I quit taking the pills mostly due to this site. I was taking alot of calcium also and then I read calcium leaves you 20% more likely to have a heart attack. Lots of heart problems in my family so I dropped the calcium tablets. I drank ton’s of milk and read on here milk is bad for your bone’s. I also eat tons of yogurt and cheese. It seems every thing I try to help just bites me in the butt. I am raiseing my 13 year old adopted son and if something happens to me he is screwed as we have no other family. I am just panicked here about my health. I barely pay my bills and can’t order this book but I do keep checking the website often
Yeah Vivian, I loved your rebuttle. I too opted for a better way. With you help and the group sharing, I think I can get improved bones the natural way, your way. I was thinking about the times over my life when I went to a doctor to get help with This or That. I was always given a perscription to battle the problem with. I must say many times I didn’t get the perscription filled because I didn’t think the perscription description matched the systoms of my problem. I am so glad I did research for my diagnoses of Ostoporosis. That’s when I met the “SaveOurBones” program online. Without taking bad medications, I am learning to treat my bones better with diet and exercise. I believe my bones are responding! I am happy I found the “Program.”
Vivian,
As I’ve said before (but you never seem to publish anything that disagrees with your “theories”) you are a fear monger and are making money off of these threats to vulnerable individuals about science you know nothing about so it seems from your comments…you should ask for the newly available time Beck slot on Fox News Channels…you would fit right in!
Most sincerely,
Michael DiMuzio, Ph.D.
Michael you sound like the typical greedy doctors who are more concern with how much money they have in their bank accounts vs the safety of their patients. I took a bisphoshonate and experience many of the side effects that Vivian mentions. The worst side effects that I experience were difficulty swallowing, inflammation & ulceration of my esophagus, jaw pain, muscle and joint pain. The pain was by far the worst of the side effects because it kept me bedridden. I suggest you take this medication yourself and then you can see if Vivian is telling the truth! If you aren’t willing to do this than keep you vile and misleading opinions to yourself!
Good for you Kate
Michael, have you checked any of the real unbiased research showing how bad and USELESS those drugs are? Just another money making scheme for doctors that don’t want to look for real answers, greedy drug companies and the corrupt FDA that is killing people or destroying their lives with garbage! I wouldn’t touch those drugs if they paid me! OLD bone needs to be replaced with new bone, not left to create bone that looks good on Xray but is brittle – not to mention the idea of going blind or having the esophagus erode. There is plenty of information showing how bad these drugs are besides this site! But I guess you follow the dollar signs like the rest of the greedy ones!
Bravo
for telling off these greedy cold hearted sopposed to be helping Human kind Dr’s
Patricia
FIRST DO NO HARM. Whatever happened to the Hippocratic Oath ??? I believe MANY Doctors, not all fortunately, have forgotten this oath and are purely out to make money. Many, many drugs are actually worse than the disease they are supposed to cure. It also seems that few doctors are even willing to consider a more natural cure which would not be so hard on the body, because they don’t get any kick-backs for it from a drug company. Doctors need to stop treating their patients like fools and start treating them again with respect. Start earning the trust we are obliged to put in you and your qualifications .
Michael..I can see you are really afraid that someone is going to pull the wool over your eyes. As I study this issue, I see so many people who agree with Vivian’s program. As I am one who took all the advise of my doctors and got worse, then started a Raw Vegan diet 6 months ago, and include the suggested supplemts, I have got better. I am experiencing a big turn around in my general health. Heart, digestion, strength, etc…have all improved. I have a way to go, but now I know I will keep getting better. I still work with a medical doctor and we are all working toward one goal. Health. Don’t be afraid. Jump on the health train and come along. It is amazing to feel the new resurgence of good health and vigor. Lynn
Your comment is typical, and what unsuspecting women believe. I gave up the idea long ago that doctors are gods and that prescription drugs were panaceas for every disease known to mankind. Well, I’m a lot smarter now, thank goodness, and I only go to naturopathic doctors that use supplements to cure diseases, the way God intended. If you think you’re so much more intelligent than God, you need help.
I have followed the advice in here, especially the exercise, and found that with my special vitamin supplement and strontium, my bone mass has increased by nearly 20% in 2 years. I was -3.0 T score in 2009 in the spine but increased bone mass until I am -1.8 T taken March 10, 2011. My doctor is amazed, and I am so happy to share this information with you all. Use the exercise bands, but a little stress on your spine and core with some exercise everyday, and walk everyday, either inside or outside. Also, within that period, I began babysitting my granddaughter and pick her up everyday for diaper changes, etc, and we have a daily dance session. I have done other things like moderate yoga, but I believe the vitamins supplements and strontium were the core benefit which helped me get the upper strength and move into healthier and stronger bones.
Loved the “new” Sally Field ad! She should be ashamed of herself, touting dangerous lies about Boniva. Also, thanks, Vivian, for the info on the new Atelvia…………..I was wondering about this “new” drug, and shocked to find out it is just the same old book with a brand new cover………….No Thanks!
My wife broke her right femur Oct. 7 2010 merely by stepping down one step. She had to have three surgeries. A week after her first surgery Oct. 13 there abouts the FDA came out with it’s recent statement about More increased risk of Femur and Femoral neck fractures. Yet they won’t pull it. Doctors today are more interested in pushing drugs ($$$$) instead of taking care of their patients. Every single one of them ought to be sued for breaking their Hipoccratic Oath of “Doing no harm to their Patients”!
Thank you sir. That is exactly my thoughts. I was so glad to scroll down the page a bit further and find your message. We could do with a return of the ethics of some of the Doctors in the past. I’m sure they had their fair share of charlatans too but I believe the money hungry issue is rife these days. There are such big payoffs for promoting the drug companies. In my mind many of them are no better than the drug lords who sell cocaine, heroin, ‘P’ and the rest of that garbage.
if all your comments are true about the bones why don’t the media take it up on TV like Sally Field. She talks why don’t you?
You need to find out who Owns the Media…
I want to thak you for telling the truth! I was diagnosed back in 2006, wasn’t to bad then. But now, I have gotten worse. I’ve tried just about every Osteo medicine, but all of it upset my stomach. So, I stoped taking it, and am so greatfull to have found your site. Last year I had Laser Spine Surgery for other back prblems, it has not helped. I have a hard time walking, and loose my balance alot. I feel and broke my arm, and am in pain 24/7. My son cooks dinner every night, which I am greatfull for, but still, I’m depressed because I use to do everything. Does Osteo cause pain? Or d you think that my pain is from my Scoliosis, Degenerative Disks, Herniated Disks? I’m 60 years old, and never thought that I’d end up this way. I am going to order your book, but I think it’s to late for me, because my T score is about as low as it can go.
Once again, thank you for telling the truth, and helping people!
Dear Linda
It is never too late to make a fresh start on your health
there is a reason that you have come across Vivian’s site,
God works in mysterious ways, and this is one of them, hurry up and get Vivians’s book, and start healling your body
God bless you and listen to him
Patricia
I have been diagnosed with osteo with a-3.3 t score at the age of 45 now diagnosed at age 40 have not taken anything because I can’t afford it had a complete hysterectomy when I was 23 due to endemeterosis which is why they say I have osteo so bad lack of hormones is there any natural cure for this I had a fracture in T12 in 2007.
there is a natural cure for everything
I love your take on the advertisement. As you say, once diagnosed “you are on your own ” especially when you turn down the prescription that the consultant hands you. However I have found that your Save our Bones programme to be the most informative and helpful book and I am using the guidance in it to help me with the osteoporosis. As regards to this and everything else , the natural way is ALWAYS best .
I wish we could get Sally off the air, or even better, come on with truth/retractions! I am so angry. I have only osteopenia in my WRIST. The lying “diagnosis” is made based on your lowest score. I looked up some research reports, and bisphosphonates were not recommended for osteopenia or prevention. I told my doctor osteopenia was not uncomfortable, but the results of taking bisphosphonates are torture–severe general achiness; sharp pains in hands, thumbs, and shoulders; reflux; heart “fluttering”. My quality of life is greatly diminished, and now I am much weaker with poorer balance, thus more likely to fall. We are hearing more about the unusual fractures, but we do not hear much about these “lesser” [ha] side effects. We must get these drugs stopped.
I have bad pain in my right hip. I had a scan and was told it is bersitis. The pain is so bad, I can’t roll over on bed. I have to sit up to change my position. I also have arthritis. I take calcium with magnesium and CQ10 and on protonix. I am in pain daily and hope this program can help my pain, I am 68 years old.
Doris
Hi Doris,
Osteoporosis doesn’t hurt — unless there are fractures, of course. Although the program is not designed for pain, a pH balanced diet may help reduce inflammation, and the high levels of antioxidants inherent in the program (thanks to the alkaline veggies and fruits) may help as well.
I have been told I have ostopenia in my hips,I am a 57yr old flight attendant.with very littel pain or discomfort. What can I take to help?
Hi Denise,
A natural program like Save Our Bones is your best bet! 🙂
I broke my pelvis in an accident 2 years ago. I was tested after it healed and told I had the precursors to osteoporosis. I healed over a year but had hip pain and was told I had arthritis and needed a hip replacement. Had hip replaced and felt fine for about 6 months and then started having severe pain in my thigh where the stem fit into the femur. I’m still on crutches as it feels like it’s moving. Doctor says I need hip re-re-placement and they will glue the stem into the bone because the bone is not growing around the stem. Is there anything I can do to make this bone grow and keep from having to undergo another year of recovery and possible further complications or fractures. I take calcium citrate, K2, magnesium, D3, All the B’s, C, A, CQ10,veggies and fruits. What else can I do, or should I just go ahead and get re-replaced? It’s supposed to be a very complicated risky surgery. I’m a young 70 years and very active.
Hi Pat,
Two years ago (I was 59)I had my third hip replacement and when they went in they found out that my pelvis was crushed as well. It was a very serious operation of course. I am glad that I went to Pittsburgh, Pa because there are only two surgeons in the US with the caliber of high care; one in California and one on the East coast. Of course i wish that i had never ever had to have one hip operation but I just wanted to encourage you. My surgeon is one of the best in the entire world and he has the credentials to prove it. If you want his address please let me know.
Yes – I would like you to provide the East Coast Dr’s name. Thank you in advance.
I love this article, every time sally fields still comes on tv spouting her lies, i would like to reach in and drag her out and make her tell the truth. my mother is 87, very smart, alert and still lives alone, with my and my sisters help. She faithfully has followed her doctors instructions on meds, takes her vitamins daily and eats very well. In other words tries to be as healthy as she can. Unfortuately she also took Fosamax for 10 years because she was told if she didn’t she would fall apart from osteoporosis. She was standing in her pantry, alone, when she heard a loud pop and fell to the floor when upper femur just broke off!! Fortunately we had her get a life alert wrist band or she could have laid there for a long time. She has never fully recovered, it has changed her end of life years(and ours) drastically. I am so angry about this, I feel like someone should pay for this. We have gotten on the class action lawsuit against Fosamax, but I figure the lawyers will be the ones to benefit on this not the woman who are suffering and will continue to suffer. Do you have any ideas how to get these companies that deserve to put in jail and pay for damages done?
I’m so sorry to hear about your mother! I’ll let the lawyers deal with the class action suits; I’m doing what I can to help by focusing on my research into bone health and providing truthful information to those who want to hear it.
Hi Vivian:
Thank you so much for sharing all the messages from people who have tried Fosomax, Boniva and others dangerous drugs. My family doctor prescribed Fosomax and it ruined my esophogas. I had to have my throat stretched and have trouble swallowing. Since then I have had acid reflux, indigestion and pain in my stomach. I have had terrible pain in my thighs, and excruciating pain in my spine with many fractures. They have made an invalid out of me and I used to exercise before going to work every morning, did Yoga and meditation for years.
Let us share our stories and put Big Pharma on notice. Everytime I go to a doctor’s office I see at least three drug reps there. They bring large trays of cold cuts and cheese or cut up fruit and are taught how to shine up to the doctors. Mine told me that I either have sore thighs or I die! I could write a book about what the doctors have put me through. I used to be strong and healthy but listened to them and have damaged this body.
Don’t get me started on statin drugs and Premarin and the side effects they cause. Now they want 2 yr. olds to take statins so they would avoid heart problems.
My family doctor insisted I needed pneumonia vaccine and I have had pneumonia four times since then.
Thank you for all you are doing. Reading about other’s problems I see I am not alone. We were told we had to have dairy products and meat at every meal. Countries where people don’t use dairy products have stronger bones.
I thought doctors took an oath to help people get well but they are only interested in making more money.
God Bless you and all those who have these health issues. Keep up the good work!
This was most enlightening. I am going to give this web site to two of my doctors, one is a chiropractor who believes in natural cures and the other is my family physician.
Three times I have been scheduled for Reclast by my endocrinologist and 3 times I cancelled, the third time was after I found your website. Thank you so much for your continuing efforts to educate women on this subject.
Thumbs up on this commercial you have written! I know that because of the Sally Fields endorsement, having Reclast IV sounded like a supplement, not a drug! What was I thinking? I believe I was disarmed by the commercial for Boniva; then my trusted Gynocologist resommended it…why else would I let this drug enter into my body after a lifetime of avoiding drugs? I tell everyone to research into the drugs and give them your website…however, you are the one who has the knowledge and the background to get this out into the public. I wish I had seen a commercial such as yours before I found out I had Osteoporosis…I NEVER would have given in. More power to you!
I was diagnosed with osteoporosis a year ago and prescribed Boniva. After reading your book and experiecing some of the side effects of this drug, I told my doctor I was stopping the pills. I have been on your program for about a month. I understand the drug stays in my body for some time but how long? A year from now I will have to go back for another bone density test. If I stay on your program, will there will improvement within a year?
Several years ago my Dr. recomended Fosamax. I have not recovered since! She changed me to other kinds when I started to have symthoms listed on all the warning lists. I’ve started supplements and I’m doing better. The pain is not so severe now. My life is much more happer! I look forward to daily activities. I am convinced if I had continued with the different drugs, I would be in a Nursing Home or In the cemetary!!!! God helps those who help themselves! Clara
Thank you for your truth. I tried Fosomax and developed trouble with my esphogus. I did Forteo injections but had to stop because of the sudden and intense pains in my legs.
I stopped taking Actonel after taking it for 10 years with little change in my bone density with taking it. My DEXA scan essentially was unchanged from taking the Actonel. With stopping the Actonel, I started my own plan, getting a blood test to determine my blood calcium level. I started taking 5,000 IU of D-3 per day for 3 months and little change was noted with the next blood test. Everyone is different and their ability to absorb nutrients is different. I am now taking 9,000-10,000 IU of D-3 per day and the doctor finds my bones to resemble bones of a 21 year old. Despite this huge change for me over only a one year period, no doctor seems to be interested in sharing this information and my success with his/her other patients. They only want to push the dangerous drugs. The pharmaceutical companies are not making anything off D-3. It’s so cheap. I pay only $5.99 for 100 – 2,400IU gel caps. When taking high does of vitamin D-3 it is important to do blood calcium level tests and D-3 tests every 3 months as well as to not take calcium supplements, and to restrict dairy products to avoid hyper-calcemia (too much calcium in the blood). I wish everyone who has osteopinea or osteoporosis could know my story. I am wondering if osteoporosis even existed when women spent much of their day outdoors in the sunshine. It is also being speculated that low levels of D-3 in pregnant mothers may be part of the problem with the huge rise in autism. I suspect, however, that this is only one factor and electromagnetic field exposure may be even a bigger contributor.
Mary, I have had very low vitamin D levels. It seems like I’m on RX Vitamin D for three months and off for three months, then on again, then off again. I have had Vitamin D levels ranging from a low of 8 to 35 which was my highest reading. I have just gotten off of another Vitamin D prescription and my Vitamin D blood test was at 57 which for me is unheard of. I am planning on continuing non prescription Vitamin D3 and am taking 4000 IU per day. My first and last Dexa scan was a -2.8 in the left hip and everything else was normal (whatever normal is). I also had a multitude of steroid injections in my lower back for pain and am thinking this could be part of the problem. When my doctor prescribed Boniva three years ago I refused the prescription, saying No thanks. She wants me to have another DEXA done but my feeling is why bother as it won’t change my mind about taking the drug anyway so why submit to all that radiation. What was your DEXA scan reading before taking the 5000IU of Vitamin D3 and what were the readings after. I just may have to up my dosage another 1000 IU. Also, if you don’t mind my asking, what is your Vitamin D level at. I have my vitamin D levels checked every three months on a regular basis. I think it is remarkable what you have done and hope to mimic your results. Thank you.
Vivian,
You did let me know about the calcium that I asked about Advacal but you
did not let me know your thoughts on it Iam taking 1000milagrams 1000vitamin
D3 600 magnesium 50milagrams ofK2 Iam69 years old with Osteoprosis in
hip and spine eating fruits and fish and nuts and yogart
I am taking the same Advacal supplement and would be interested in knowing what Vivian thinks of it as well.
Hi Vivian;
I thank you again for this email. Will be
reading others that you send. I have many
friends taking these drugs and am concerned
over them. Louise
Are Tylenol and Mitran ok to take for relief of pain? My knee joints get very swollen and I don’t take any drugs but do take tylenol and Mitran occasionally for pain relief and to reduce swelling when the cold pack isn’t effective. Would appreciate your comment. Carol Ann
I use curcumin (tumeric), MSM and boswellia (an Ayurdic herb available from Whole Food or Banyan in Berkely, CA. These all seem to help a great deal with inflammation causing pain.
My doctor wants me to take Alendronate for my Osteoporosis in my hips (T 2.5 and 2.1) What is your opinion of this drug and what are the side effects–he never did mention any of these other than “some difficulty in swallowing”. Thanks!
Hi Anna,
Please check out my blog post on Fosomax (the generic is alendronate): Fosamax: When Good Things Happen to Bad Osteoporosis Drugs
I just started taking Novo-Risedronate for recently diagnosed osteopina. Have no complaint. Any comments ?
If Ms. Fields told the truth she would be out of a job – as you say, it’s all about the money.
I liked this piece that you did vivian. I did see that commercial many times and have changed my mind about these drugs that do more damage than good. I am so looking forward to receiving your save our bones book which I have ordered but yet to receive. I have been waiting for 2 weeks now but this seems like a lifetime cause I want to start the program. Betty Scott
I talked to an M.D. yesterday who said there was new information that not only Boniva, but all of the companies, that make prescripteion drugs classified as bisphonates, are subject to frax and some of the other bad things that youhave mentioned in this article.
Do you know where that new and recent informanation can be found?
I was prescribed Bonavia after a bone density test, and at the time my doctor used the “scare tatic” to get me to take it, by telling me that I was subject to break a hip and become disabled or die as a result, if I did not take the drug(I was 57 at the time). I succumbed to the terrible fear of a fracture and took Bonavia for only 2 months, and ended up with terrible gastric problems, dental problems and severe aches and pains throughout my body which I had never before experienced. In short, I quickly realized I was worse off with the Bonavia. My doctor never admitted to the Bonavia being the cause of my discomfort however, after finding blood in my urine (which I had never had before) he agreed that I should stop taking it…(I viewed that as an admittance of sort…) I am now doing Vitamin D 1,000m daily and adding more of the right fruits and vegetables to my diet, and as well have purchased the Save our Bones program and am just very greatful for all of the information coming forth, that proves my initial instincts about not taking the synthetic drugs were right!
Hi Darlene,
May I suggest an increase in the Vitamin D. At least to4,000. Also I hope this Vitamin D3
You may want to get a blood test to find out how much D-3 is in your blood. Get the initial test to find out current blood/calcium level and D-3 level, start taking D-3 at a lower dose and then in 3 months get another test to see if you need more D-3 in your daily dose. After a few months more you will learn how much your body may need of daily D-3 and be prepared for a wonderful change in your bones.
I was on Bonviva but since i have read your artical i wish ti stop. But ifI will do my GP/Doctor would not give any medication or any direction.I really believe in natural/herbal medicine.I use wallnuts,Brazil nuts and Almonds with seeds and extra vitamine D,I go to GYM and keep my joints flexible.
Only thing is that at present I cannot afford to buy your programe. If you have any information in the form of booklet or any other book published by you on this subject.
I would be thankful if you let me know.
You are one wonderful person andkeep up your good work.
Nima
What do you do if on Boniva and did not know this and now Dr says he can’t help me and neither can anyone else but sends me to a surgeon that suggest surgery and tells me when I change my mind come back..The surgery could kill me or paralize me or if I go on with the fractured T9 disc it could do the same I will be 77 in Dec. Now what Billie
As Vivian reports, it is NEVER too late to stop the bisphosphonates. Note in my previous comment that there are safe clinically proven options to support bone/joint challenges. BarbaraKR
sorry i cant order your book at the present time but i would like to in the near future, iam verythankful for your emails because iam not taking any meds for my bonesthat my doctor prescribed, iam afraid of them,iam69 years of ageand enjoy hearing from you god bless you elizabeth
I love the “spoof” advert. It’s far better than the real one!
It is so good to read some hard-hitting truth and facts instead of just being spoon-fed on big business self-interest.
I’ll be extremely interested also to read answers to the various questions in the other comments.
I got the yearly injection Zoledronate in July can I still take nature medicine? On the 5 off october the Dentist has to extract a tooth,do i have to worry???
I was stupid because I did not have information on Boniva. When my OB/GYN told me I was on the last level of osteoperosis due to using Depo-provera and Methylprednesilone for Multiple Sclerosis she suggested one of the 3 popular drugs. Being of the age of Sally Field “the Flying Nun” I thought I’ll try her recommendation. I took one pill was okay for 3 days and then I had a multitude of problems which led straight into a MS exascerbation. After another round of Steroids, Physical Therapy 6 months later I can barley walk 3-4 steps with out holding on to something. My primary care physician, visiting nurses and Neurologist did not disagree that the osteoperosis drug was the cause of my problem.
My bone loss was caused by low weight, inability to do normal walking 1st and then probably by chemo/radiation/arimidex as well as protonix. (I d/c arimidex Jan 31st, 2011.) I am working to get off protonix with my MD but it has been a long term effort.. How can natural healing approaches counteract my walking disabilities and powerful meds which I’ve needed to take?
I would love to do it the natural way, but feel I need a powerful approach.
Thank you.
Louise
I took actonel for a couple of years and started having atrial fibrilation – my bones were not improving. Then about a 1-1/2 years ago, my doctor prescribed reclast which was supposed to be better. I didn’t like what was happening to my body. I had weakness in my legs for about a year and a half. Since I quite and am following your program, the discomfort in my legs is almost gone. I’m a believer in taking charge of my bones. Thanks!
I blindly had a complete hysterectomy at 30yrs. old and I’ve been miserable ever srtc.ince. I HATE drs.and don’t trust them at all. I can’t live without premarin as I’ve tried and I developed thyroid disease and then osteoperosis from that. I’ve learned everything on my own about these diseases as drs. have been total jerks to me about all of my problems. I now follow my own plan and feel much better, premarin, good diet and exercise, weights etc. and supplements, calcium,d
Thank you Vivien for your continued concern. I have been offered Fosamax by my physician to improve my bonedensity and osteoarthritis one year ago.Somehow i mistrusted this drug — for some unknown reasons at the time,so i did not buy it.
I was right — reading your articles online with regards to bonedensity and the dangers and sideeffects of Fosamax and consorts – gave me an explanation for my original distrust of my physician`s prescription of Fosamax to increase my bonedensity.
I descided to go natural — according to your suggestions Vivien, thank you again for your so informative e-mails! Gerda George.
Vivian,
Great commercial. I’ll never touch the stuff. I do have a question though. I’ve heard it said that taking these drugs are like taking detergents. Is there danger from dishwasher soaps? Thank you.
Thank You, and thank you again!
I love it when someone who is bold enough to expose the systematic fraud that the pharmaceutical corps try to ram down out throat(literally!).Add to this some puppet actress, and even Enya whom I enjoy listening to . We all have a price I quess.
To speak up takes courage. Your examination of the absence of any long term safety trial once again demonstrates that the FDA and the Big Pharms are NOT promoting health, but rather the bottom line profit to shareholders.
You are welcome to email with your feedback.
Thanks
Lancelot
I have recently been diagnosed with Osteoporosis. I have been reading on the different drugs for Osteoporosis. The more I readthe more confused I get. The doctor prescribed for me Actonel. I have just started taking it, but now reading your website I see a lot of negative remarks about all of the drugs. Even about milk, years ago we were told that milk was good for your bones. Please clarify whether milk is good or bad. Please reply if possible
Armed with the true knowledge, anyone can achieve optimal health – and it’s lot simpler than we’re led-like-sheep to believe.
We may have to be satisfied with spreading the word ourselves, one person at a time, which can be very effective over time. We are a corporate run society and medicine and pharmaceuticals certainly don’t take a back seat there !
The day is coming when the truth will be known but they’ll try and suppress it because of profits, liability and law suits. Pharmaceutical companies live with lawsuits. It’s part of the game and they can WELL afford to play.
Our society has deemed health care a business. By definition then, health care is a FOR PROFIT enterprise. The Drug companies manufacture chemicals because they make MONEY from doing so. Therefore, it’s like buying a car or anything else….BUYER BEWARE. Don’t take their word for anything. Do your own research and decide for yourself what is best for your health.
But know that one lying commercial is the least of what is coming at you !
Among the dangers facing our food and our health freedom is the FDA’s determination to destroy our access to high potency nutrients and vitamins although guaranteed by the 1994 Dietary Supplements Health and Education Act (DSHEA). Today it’s Senate Bill 510, along with the FDA’s illegal Codex activities which constantly threaten our freedom of choice.

Update: 04/13/10 – “Food Safety” Bill updated to “protect” Dietary Supplements… we’re NOT satisfied! See: https://www.healthfreedomusa.org/?p=5144 for details.
Call your representatives, send faxes on your own, reach all your friends. Do not depend on any one organization – especially one making the most noise – to do the work for you.
For hundreds of thousands of emails to flow through only one group, means that group could potentially stop that flow (or be shut down themselves).
Excellent letter…..thank you so much for reminding us all that we need to get in touch with our senators and congressmen concerning our right to treat ourselves as we see fit while avoiding the nasty side effects of most of the pharmaceuticals available to us these days!
Before taking Boniva, I had a hard fall on concrete and broke a hip. Boniva caused severe muscle pain with spasms that caused compression fractures in my back and broken ribs, mainly from turning over or rising up in bed. I slept in the reclner for months to keep from turning over. I only took Boniva for a few months, but many months after stopping, I had more fractures -caused, I now believe, by the results of taking the drug.
Hi! Vivian,
As I’ve Told You Before, I Haven’t Been Diagnosed With Osteoporosis, But If I Was Ever Told To Take Boniva, Or Any Other Prescription Drug For It; I Would Have To Say NO, I WILL NOT. I Agree With Sandy (March 29 2010); I’d Rather Take My Chances With The ‘SaveOurBones’ Program Than Worry About The Side Effect Of Those Prescription Drugs. THAT SCARES ME MORE!
Thank You Again VERY MUCH For ALL YOUR RESEARCH On OUR BONES.
LOVE, MS. L.
I broke both ankles in a fall in 2003 and fractured my elbow in 2006. I was diagnosed with osteopenia and started on Fosamax, then went to alendronate, the generic bisphosphenate. I have had no side effects and no more fractures despite falling heavily onto my knees once last year. My doc plans to take me off this year as she only keeps her patients on it for 6 years. I’ll let you know about my next DEXA scan.
I WANT OFF! I FREAK OUT AND WORRY EVERY TIME I TAKE IT. THE DRS. MOM TAKES IT AND MY PHARMACY TECH DOES IS THAT TRUE OR FALSE? BELIEVE WHAT U WANT.
10 years ago when I was pre- menopausal I was told by my gyno-doctor (because I was thin) to start taking Fosimax! Well let me just say that after one time, and one dose only…the effect on my stomach was profound! The Heart burn completely cruel.I felt like vomiting and had a horrible headache for two days! Luckily I went to the dentist that week, and told him I was taking Fosimax; and maybe it would be good for my bones and jaw…he went into a rage! He told me then and there that what “Boniva” and “Fosimax” really did was erode the bones! That if I continued to take it My Jaw line would diminish and my teeth loosen.
I never took it again and I am so glad.
I think I will stick to aloe-Vera, Sesame seeds and cucumber and bananas, stretching and exercise.
Ps when I see Sally Field, hawking “Boniva” I always think she must be making a boat load of money to make her want to advertise such a harsh drug!
I am just 40,living in Dublin, Ireland, and have osteopenia in my spine, which really frightens me. one of my bones is -1.9 and was -1.7 two years ago – it has deteriorated even though I have been talking calcium & Vit D tablets twice a day for last 2 years! My doctors and specialists I have seen, say – dont worry, there are tablets that can fix that when u get older!! My diet was poor in my 20’s as i I dieted! otherwise I am a healthy mother of three, who have never fractured anything – I am looking for inspiration to reverse this and get over my fear of osteoporosis!
