Supplementing With Virgin Coconut Oil Prevents Bone Loss

A new study shows that virgin coconut oil was effective at maintaining both quality and quantity of bone in estrogen-deficient rats.1 Study researchers point out that the rich antioxidant content of virgin coconut oi protects bones from oxidative stress that damages bone microarchitecture and erodes bone density.

Love the video. Makes me remember when husband and I went to California several years ago. we were heading south on the coase in late afternoon on a lovely sunny day. we saw that sunset was very near so we pulled off the road to watch. With no obstruction, you can watdh to sun go down, it doesn’t seem like slowly but more like dropping down===and then a quick green(?)flash across the horizon when the sun sinks out of view “BEAUTIFUL.”

Thought I’d learn a new word today. Looked up “avatar” but dictionary didn’t give me much understanding of the word. Any how, here is what my brother puts at the end of all his emails.

“Write your hurts is sand; Carve your blessings in stone”

I use Whole Foods 365 organic unrefined virgin coconut oil, is that as good as extra virgin, I haven’t seen that. Also how much is beneficial for bones, I just use a spoonfull in my oatmeal each morning, doesn’t seem like much to actually help, how much do you recommend?

Now, it is a new lesson for me, I’ll try it. Thank you very much.
    Merry Christmas to all.

Is the music on the video by Einaudi? Does anyone know the title of the music? It’s lovely.

  15. Abigail

Vi, an error in my mail about using oil to cook. It was extra virgin coconut oil which being organic was what I used a few times in cooking. The olive oil, I placed directly on my cooked food before eating. Thanks, and God bless you and your family, especially at this inspiring time celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

  16. Abigail

Dear Vi, I had sent you an e-mail from my in-box, but it seems it went into your spam folder, as I did not hear from you in answer to my mail. I am very grateful to you for your love and kindness, and how you are so caring, and helpful to everyone including myself. I also appreciate the lovely video you sent. I enjoyed the music. I have heard so much about how organic extra virgin coconut oil is good, and at the same time so many other doctors are saying “no oil”, because not just for the fat content, but that it does harm to our arteries, and it is only a matter of time, that persons using cold pressed extra virgin olive oil, or any other oil, organic or not, at some time later in life will face health problems. It kinda threw me off, as for some years now, I have been using cold pressed olive oil directly on my plate. (less than one Tbsp. per day). A few times, I used cold pressed extra virgin oil to cook with. This is scarey. Hope to get your views on this. Your mails are always so very interesting, and one can feel the encouragement coming from you. God bless.

I am interested in the information, but would very much prefer to be able to read it rather than watch a video. I never take the time to watch the videos, but would read if you offered the script of the video.

please be careful taking too many supplements of calcium and vitamin D. I was rushed to A & E after passing out and having stomach upsets due to too much of these. We don’t get much sun so I thought I was ok supplementing but with eating a good diet it was too much.

  28. darlene

The video was beautiful. Thank you.

  29. Sharon

Awesome! Your video does, indeed, show how truly blessed we are whenever we are surrounded by Nature.

  30. Cleo Brockman

What a truly amazing video – loved it. To come down to earth after all that beauty, I used to take calcium each day, but read article saying that calcium may cause heart attacks and problems. What does one do? I eat a lot of vegetables and fish, very little meat and am wondering, do I get enough calcium in what I eat?

  31. Monique O'Rourke

    Beautiful video!
Thank you for the info re: coconut oil. I’ve been using it for a while now, i.e.this morning for french toast.
I am also confused about calcium and vit. D supplements. My physician had told be to take 1,000. i.u. daily during winter (here in Canada – not much natural vit. D) Is that too much? Also ,should we trust hat calcium supplements are safe if taken with vit. D ?

Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Beautiful video about the mountain. Reminds me of the Cevennes hills in the Languedoc Rousillon area of France. Recommend listening to Jean Ferrat’s song “La Montagne”. It’s sung in Frech and the words are lovely.
    Thank you,

Increased Consumption of Calcium Rich Dairy Products May Help Prevent Hip Fractures
Filed under: Calcium — Scott @ 9:01 pm

Scott Greenberg, NatureCity author & contributor
A new study looked at the levels of dairy consumption and hip fractures in the Netherlands, France, and Sweden. All three countries have different levels of dairy consumption, with the Netherlands having the highest and France the lowest.

It was determined that a substantial number of hip fractures could be avoided and that a large amount of money could be saved in medical costs if people consumed more calcium rich dairy products.

The researchers calculated the Population Attributive Fraction (PAF) for each country. This showed them what percentage of hip fractures were results of low calcium intake and how many of those fractures could have been prevented through more intake.

They found that the French population could avoid 2,023 hip fractures a year, Sweden could avoid 455, and the Netherlands could avoid 135. .

They also calculated that those countries could save $165 million, $44 million, and $7 million, respectively, in health care costs if preventative measures were taken.

Researchers for this study were based at the University Hospital of Geneva. Their findings were published online ahead of print on June 16, 2012, in the journal Osteoporosis International.

Calcium is best known for its effect on bone health, but previous studies suggest it can help with weight loss, skin health, and reducing the risk of colorectal cancer and stroke. Some studies have even suggested that calcium intake is associated with longevity.

Calcium absorption decreases as we age, so it is especially important to make sure you are getting enough of it. Try adding more dairy products or start taking a high quality supplement if you’re trying to up your calcium intake.

    I AM CONFUSED

    • Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

I do not advocate drinking milk; it’s an acidifying animal protein. Here’s more information on why I never recommend milk as a source of calcium:
      https://saveourbones.com/osteoporosis-milk-myth/

    • Diane O'Neill

I am not an expert, so I depend on the “experts” in the field to inform me. From what I have read, although daily calcium is the goal, the form in which you take it in is very important. Milk does have calcium but it is also acidifying because it is an animal protein. If you are adding acid to your system it has to neutralize it by drawing the calcium from your bones to do so. Getting calcium from fruits and vegetables as well as taking calcium supplements (but not in excess) would be your best bet for calcium. The goal is to keep an acid/alkaline balance in your body.

Me too! So are dairy products good for bones or not?

There are plenty of coconut oil in the Philippines it likened to “a pharmacy in a bottle of coconut oil”.

Nature reflects the Magnificence of its creator none other than Jehovah God!
It is a living proof of his power, wisdom, Justice and love. Scientists, as well as artists, may be overwhelmed by the beauty of the natural world. A professor of mathematical physics, Paul Davies, in his book The Mind of God, explains that “even hard-nosed atheists frequently have what has been called a sense of reverence for nature, a fascination and respect for its depth and beauty and subtlety, that is akin to religious awe.” What should this teach us?
Romans 1:20-22 states:For his invisible [qualities] are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable; 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God nor did they thank him, but they became empty-headed in their reasonings and their unintelligent heart became darkened. 22 Although asserting they were wise, they became foolish.
